APPLETREE _ you're house sounds so funky!!!!!!! Now I understand what you mean - I'm thinking, seriously woman!!! lol. Do you have a really big chopping board? One that you can put underneath the scales to stand on to create a smooth surface?
If the carpet is the flattest surface, then do the above suggestion!!! It does work, I've had to do it before.
