what is the right/proper way to do washing?

I do colours and whites, DS, Sheets, and towels.

pants hang by legs, tops hang by bottoms, business shirts on hangers, socks and undies in dryer.

All clothes must be inside out. I use powder, but dissolved first.
All tops MUST be hung by the armpits so you don't see any peg marks

Some of my items only have one peg in each corner...heavier items get 2 pegs.

I don't care what side my clothes are when they are washed, but usually turn them right side out when hanging them.

DH has a rule that his clothes (with the exception of old t-shirts and jeans) have to be hung inside to avoid sun damage...what a pain!

Everything else gets put outside.
Unless it's a very thick item of clothing, I share pegs
1 pair of socks to 1 peg (shared and hung in pairs)
2-3 pairs undies to 1 peg
up to 5 hankies to 1 peg

Generally I fold as I take things off the line and always ball socks when they come off the line.

I use powder in my front loader and will sometimes add nappy san or bicarb and if I need to use a softner, I use vinegar instead of normal fabric softners.

I sort whites, light colours, dark colours and delecates in most cases.

I don't iron unless I have to, so generally only once in a blue moon.

Tops get hung from the bottom, pants get hung from the rear of the wasteband so the opening gapes to allow air inside the pants.

When I hang socks they are also open to allow air inside.

If hanging clothes inside, thick clothes take up 2 runs on the airer.
Socks are hung in pairs next to each other.

Jeans are on the ends of the airer as they usually take the longest to dry.
Shirts get hung on a hanger.
