Hover over the link and see where it takes you... most will take you to a site that looks like the authentic site unless you look closely...

Also look at the email address it is from... same deal.

Another thing I usually do is go and log onto my Paypal/Ebay account, as they store letters they send to you in their, in an 'inbox' so there should be a copy. If not, let Ebay/Paypal (whoever they are impersonating) know. There is usually a report section on the authentic website.

I always worry about emails like that.....most often enough they are fakes.....i can never tell though. So i make Dh check it our before i go doing what they ask.

Have you done anything to your account recently? Used it?

I've had one similar to that before and it's definately dodgy. If you know there have been no dodgy credit card transactions then its a moot point so dont worry about it. Do report it to paypal though.

I would just log in to your paypal account as per normal without going through the email link. That way if it is legitimate you can fix whatever the issue is & if not, no harm done.

It's a definite fake. Any genuine emails from Paypal or eBay will have your name in the title, anything that says "Dear PayPal member" or "Dear eBay member" is a red flag so definitely don't click on any links. If you're ever unsure about a PayPal email you can forward it to s****@paypal.com.au and they will reply back to you pretty quickly letting you know if it is fake or not.

    HTH

ETA the email address I gave you has been sensored. It should be s p o o f @ paypal.com.au (without the spaces of course )

Ren - If you take the "s" from the word it spells a kind of offensive word

But it had an s on it? That's weird censorship...

And I agree with the others- I think it's a dodgy email.

Definitely a scam. We got one too. Trish is right, they would have used your name. If ever in doubt go to the actual site and see if they are asking you to do the same thing.

Ooooooooooohhhhhhhh!!!! I get why the 's' was taken off now...
Yep, I'm quick on the uptake today!!!

i wouldnt even click on the link. I got a dodgy email apparently from Ebay and by clicking on the link you can allow the scammers to drop software or something similar onto your comp which can then pick up your keystrokes. Best thing to do if ever unsure is send it to ebay/paypal and wait for them to confirm its ok.
    these people are the pits

Going OT: It still doesn't make sense to censor part of a word IMO... by adding a letter it's a whole other word!
