I was on zoladex for 6 months about about 6 years ago. It was due to fibroids...
As a 30 year old, the zoladex put me into a menopausal state where I had no periods, hot flushes, cognitive difficulties, extreme vaginal dryness, weight gain, mood swings (e.g. anxiety) etc. It was pretty awful...and I was getting married at the same time...my DH and I always joke about how many people get the "privilege" of a marrying a menopausal bride of 30!
After the 6 months of zoladex treatment, my Gyn. decided he was no longer going to treat "public" patients (my private health insurance hadn't kicked in at that stage as the fibroids were seen as a pre-existing condition) so I had to go back into the public system (6 months waiting list). Once I finished the 6 months of zoladex, my periods returned, causing ++ difficulties, including severe anaemia and heavy periods that lasted for 2 weeks at a time, etc.
When I eventually got seen in the public system by another doctor, the Gyn. I saw, was horrified that I had been on zoladex and basically said it was an outdated treatment for fibroids and that it should have never been undertaken...
After a few months, my private health insurance kicked in, and I went to a private Gyn. He treated the fibroids through embolism, which meant no zoladex or extreme invasive surgery...it was basically the most up-to-date treatment for fibroids available, and it worked wonderfully! His opinion was also that the zoladex was unnecessary.
So...my personal opinion about zoladex was that it was awful...and the second and third professional medical opinions I received, was that it was outdated and unnecessary. I was left with a 10+kg weight gain that I never successfully shifted (despite diet and exercise)...and a lot of annoyance/anger at my original Gyn. for putting me on a treatment that caused lots of problems...and then "abandoning" me before really dealing with the problem...
Having said all that...my problem was fibroids...so different medical problems may respond better to zoladex that what mine did...all zoladex did for me was stop periods (which then stopped the severe anaemia) and put me into a menopausal state...once the zoladex was ceased, all the original symptoms returned, because the fibroids were never properly treated...
My advice would be to do some research...perhaps get a second opinion before you start the zoladex...
