    Over Population

I know this is goinf to be controversial but did anyone consider this when thwy were decising how big their family would be? Hubby told me today that he doesn't want any more kids because he's worry about over population and wanning resources, which caused a bit of an argument. Is it really something we should be thinking about?

Again. Is he worried about global overpopulation or just in Australia? From a local perspective, I'm quite keen on kids who can work and pay tax, otherwise life will get very expensive.

    It's not something we considered.

Given that without a large immigration program Australia actually has a rapidly declining population I'm not really sure it is a huge issue.

Is it something he is passionate about usually?

I think about it! Humans are like a parasite to Mother Earth. Yes it's a controversial topic but it's one that needs to be discussed I think. We can't just keep breeding willy nilly and think that the Earth will sustain us, at some point population control will be a major subject world wide.

I think it a world over population thing in general and intil rexently he hadn't mwntioned how much it means to him. I even asked if it was just a cocer for him not wanting more kids and he said no, that it's a serious issue that he may one day want to lobby against and that thw solution has to start somewhere and that's with him.

As if I didn't have enough conflicting feelings about rhis decision before hubby goes and does this.

Well that's definitely different to the other reasons men give lol points to him for thinking out of the box

To me considering family's are a lot smaller these days I don't see it as an issue mayby if everyone were to have 7 kids like my mum and grandma

It's something that I have considered and one of the reasons that I wouldn'tgo for number 3.
Locally, Australia already has a population that it can't sustain and globally the situation is even more dire.

It didn't cross my mind at all. DH wouldn't have given it a second thought either. I don't really consider it as a problem in Australia at this point in time.

I must say I agree with this. Although I do have 3 children myself.

It is something I have thought about and one of the reasons I was not going to have any children (whilst working in marine conservation). In the end I had two accidental pregnancies and they were the best thing that ever happened to me although I do feel some guilt about adding strain to the world. After two I can say I am less committed to my ideals emotionally (not logically as I still believe strongly about conservation) and have considered a third... it is on my mind though and we probably will stop at two, with this being one of a few reasons.

He wants to lobby against people choosing how many children they can have? That's a bit scary :/

I think overpopulation is definitely a factor to consider, but I also think people need to consider that it's not a huge concern in Aus at the moment, and families are generally smaller than they used to be. I also think there are plenty of 3+ children families who live in an ecologically friendlier way than many single child households. It's not necessarily the number, but how you choose to live as well.

I have five kids and not once did I think that they would be a burden to the country / world. I have however thought on many occasions how they will contribute and enrich the world they live in

Yep. It's the number one reason we are stopping at two. Probably the only reason, but compelling enough for us not to even discuss it.

Thanks for the replies and honesty girls.

I think for hubby and I do understand just not sure how I feel yet (there are other emotional factors I'm dealing with), that it's about population world over out growing the resources the world can provide eg food, water, oil, electricity, etc.

We have 3. we wanted 3.
hubby is Chinese and we live in China atm. Its a constant - omg they have 3 kids!
I know over population and countries being not self sufficient is a problem but I see 1st hand what population control does to people.
Yes they say the laws have changed here but that doesn't help those who have suffered as a result of these laws.
its a big argument that breaks hearts and souls.
