i relate to what you said Jaycee, my DD won't eat 99% of food either. Despite me offering it to her for five years now. It just comes back home.

From the VERY LIMITED list of things she eats (sometimes), yesterday i sent:

one thermal container of frozen yogurt (but i forgot to put a spoon, so nothing got eaten)
one wholegrain sandwich of cheese and ham
    one pear
one snack box of variety of crackers and puffed corn
one bottle of water (which she lost, first day having lunch in grade one, outside, not at a desk)

DS is in grade 1 and I basically pack the same things for him every day:

Sandwich (today was vegemite cos we ran out of ham - he normally requests ham and cheese), 3 pieces of fruit (whatever is not able to be squished, I hate pears for that reason), yoghurt and a muesli bar.

Today he also got some yoghurt covered dried apricot balls and some plain rice crackers. He eats it all too.

I pack basically the same thing for DD1 for kindy, however I choose a healthier brand of muesli bar for her cos she's only just started and I have to build up the false impression that I'm a good mother caring about her child's nutritional needs...... whereas in grade 1, the teachers don't check the lunchboxes LOL

They do that at ours too, but its usually for rubbish more than food. They must have at least one piece of fruit though. But thats why I started baking because we have a no rubbish policy at school. Have done so since DD was in prep.

And DS brought home half his apple and half his carrot sticks. I made apple and oat pikelets out of his apple and he's eating the carrot sticks now LOL. They better love it, coz I promise it won't be like this every day. Hahahahaha.

Bit much if you ask me. Apparently rice crackers are not an appropriate snack

Same Astrid - DS always got a row of rice crackers last year in his lunches and nothing was ever said to me.

Maybe they need to focus more on the kids that don't actually have a lunch packed for them...

"Healthy stuff" Guess the whizz fizz is out

Made me get off my fat bum and make some of Olive's energy balls

    200g oat
    20 dates
    4 tbs coconut oil
    Dash vanilla
Choc chip or dried fruit if you wanted...

Process oats till fine, add coconut oil, dates and vanilla, process (looks like wet bread crumbs)
Stir through dried fruit etc...roll into ball.

The coconut oil binds them, so they will go hard in fridge etc..but are fine left out as long as its not too hot

    * I tweaked the above to about double the dates, added dried apple and a splash of coconut essence.

    Show us your lunchbox!

Lunch box inspections are scary !
When DS1 was in Prep his teacher got them all to draw a big circle on a piece of paper and then draw a line down through the middle of the circle. One side was labeled "bad" and the other side of the circle was labeled "good" then they all had to empty their lunch boxes out onto their pieces of paper and put each piece of food into the appropriate good or bad side. Then the teacher took photos and your child's photo was printed out and was sent home to you o.O
That was her way of letting you know what wasn't acceptable !!
Lots of mortified parents...caused quite a stir !

Oh my gosh I feel like a bad mum! So much home cooked stuff here, DD took an apple, some grapes and a banana, cheese sandwich, crackers and cheese and some ride wheels  Might have to bake up some muffins and freeze them!!!

Jahzara: I would be having a few stern words with the principal and teacher if that ever happened. There are better ways to inform parents of "better" choices.
