Yep I freeze all the scrolls I make cookies etc. I snap freeze things on a tray and then store in a big ziplock bag. Then they pick from an arrangement in the freezer each morning.

you can use the froen items instead of an ice brick if its not super hot whre the lunch box is
N2L I tried a recipie using apple puree and the pikelts were rubbery so now I grate apple into a regular pikelt mix and add some cinamon and theya re yummy. Im going to do some with blueberries next time I see them on special
Scolls are a great idea, will have to try them looking forward to the recipe. If only DD2 ate as wide a variety as her sister does life would be easier! Think we might make our own cold rolls this weekend and see if thats something they will eat
They do defrost. I have not had any complaints from DD, but these foods tend to be eater later in day for her (Brain food, recess, then lunch)
I have done the same for my lunches at times, put in something frozen. The smaller items defrost quite well.
DS took today cheese and Vegemite sandwich, natural yoghurt with honey, cinnamon and blueberries on top.
Mini rice crackers and cheese squares, home made mango and white choc muffin, treat of frugos (yoghurt apricots) and grapes.
Yesterday was cheese and salami sandwich, natural yoghurt with dried cranberries, cheese and carrot sticks, grapes, green apple and a muesli biscuit.
I'd love it if someone came in and posted today my kid had a leftover Maccas cheeseburger, a whiz fizz, can of coke and a fruit salad roll up (for fruit snack). It would make me feel like a better parent!![]()
i relate to what you said Jaycee, my DD won't eat 99% of food either. Despite me offering it to her for five years now. It just comes back home.
From the VERY LIMITED list of things she eats (sometimes), yesterday i sent:
one thermal container of frozen yogurt (but i forgot to put a spoon, so nothing got eaten)
one wholegrain sandwich of cheese and ham
one pear
one snack box of variety of crackers and puffed corn
one bottle of water (which she lost, first day having lunch in grade one, outside, not at a desk)
DS is in grade 1 and I basically pack the same things for him every day:
Sandwich (today was vegemite cos we ran out of ham - he normally requests ham and cheese), 3 pieces of fruit (whatever is not able to be squished, I hate pears for that reason), yoghurt and a muesli bar.
Today he also got some yoghurt covered dried apricot balls and some plain rice crackers. He eats it all too.
I pack basically the same thing for DD1 for kindy, however I choose a healthier brand of muesli bar for her cos she's only just started and I have to build up the false impression that I'm a good mother caring about her child's nutritional needs...... whereas in grade 1, the teachers don't check the lunchboxes LOL
Gigi, glad to hear my son is not one of a kind.
By the way, love your new avvy![]()
Dd just got home. They had lunchbox inspection!![]()
I haven't seen devilled eggs yet. Am I the only Mum who is lazy enough to think that a boiled egg is acceptable for lunch?
I send mine with popcorn too but they always seem to find another kid who will trade it for shapes/crisps.
Rice noodle rolls - you can make them the night before if you keep them in an airtight container.
DS2 likes to eat cucumbers like other kids eat apples so I send him with a lebanese cucumber for fruit break.
Hommus with something to dip in it.
A container of tatziki/raita.
A few olives/pickles.
Really if I sent DS2 with a mezze platter every day he would love it.
Lunchbox inspections?! I've never heard of them before. What do they hope to achieve with that?

Awesome thread. I haven't read past the first page, but I want to, so subbing! DD starts kindy on the 11th Feb, and DS1 starts pre school 2 days a week next week.
We often have in the freezer-
Frozen piklets (usually with grated/mashed banana, apple, pear, berries mixed into the batter)
Fruit muffins
Vege/zucchini slice
bacon and cheese muffins
Biscuit dough roll (I cut off a few 'slices' to bake the night before for their lunches)
Cup cakes
Lunches usually consist of either-
Ham/cheese sandwiches
Egg/Lettuce sandwiches
Cheese/vegemite sandwiches
Baked beans in a container
cold tuna and potato salad
Boiled egg/cheese bits/carrot sticks/capsicum/crackers
When I say sandwiches, it is on either 'normal' wholemeal or multigrain bread or 'circle' bread (like labanese bread/tortillas etc) or in pita pockets or mini bread rolls.
Change of plans as DD1 begged for leftover chilli for lunch, its her favourite meal
Leftover Lunch
Hoping the tomatoes get eaten but I dont like my chances. She did pick them from Mums garden so hoping that helps. WOuld like to have added Avocado (in the morning) but we have run out
So glad there is a fridge in each classroom so I dont have to worry about ice bricks
Yummo!
I am all baked out now, this thread got me all inspired so I have made Anzac biscuits, Olive's date balls, LimeSlice's Mango Cupcakes and had my first every go at making scrolls! No more room in the freezer for anymore baking anyway, unless I turn the chest freezer back on!
Awesome sauceit feels good doesn't it. And bar anything it's soooo much cheaper. And I hate making sandwiches.
Mango cupcake recipe here
That sounds awesome limey, I wonder if any will make it to the kids lunch boxes/freezer if I make them![]()
