    Thought of you yesterday while I was grating beetroot
    Awwwwww I think of you all the time! lol I think we'll have to organise some Brissy or sunny coast meet ups with some BB gals Your BBQ stuff sounds great. We don't have a BBQ but would love to get one. Our deck is exposed at the moment, either next summer (or the one after) we 'may' cover it and put furniture out there. When we do BBQ's will be on the agenda for sure!

    Hope you and bub are well, you must be getting VERY excited!

    :Hello: Hi everyone!

    I had a go at making some chickpea patty thingys last night, I didn't use a recipe, kinda just guessed and made it up as I went and amazingly they turned out pretty good! A bit of a weird consistancy (I was a little trigger happy with the hand held mixer thing... I only wanted to moosh them a little but I ended up pureeing it hahaha ) But still they tasted good! My grandpa even had some cos they smelt so nice LOL.

    Cherished - Cous Cous salad sound delish! I always tend to have cous cous with wintery veggies but a citrusy cous cous salad sounds like it would be quite tasty, well suited to summer!

    Audax - I should have used your BBQ ideas on the weekend. I was invited out to a bbq... I ended up eating a little bit of steak because I felt so bad about being a PITA to everyone there... it was with people I don't know very well so, I dunno, I just didn't want to put any one out I guess. It tasted gross, so it made me feel good about my decision to not eat meat (even tho I was eating it at the time LOL). I should have made some skewers and taken them with me, they sound yummo.

    I have noticed that my tastes are changing a bit... I never (and I mean NEVER) eat raw tomato in salads etc, but on the weekend had salad with heaps of tomato in it and oh my goodness it was so tasty! LOL Did anyone else notice their tastes change too? Maybe its just because I'm trying lots of different foods at the moment or something

    Anyway, I should get back to work LOL

    Hope everyone is well

    Sibbie - I have a couple of recipes for chick pea patties - and they are all really tasty - especially the one with celery in it!!! I've never been a fan of celery before, but god its nice in vegetarian stuff.

    I was so tempted to be totally naughty last night and make DH get me some KFC (damn cravings) but he wouldn't cave into my pleas, so even though I had had a crap day, I still made a vegetarian fried rice for us for dinner. At least its one meal the kids eat!!

    My tastes have changed hugely! I barely liked vegetables when I became vegetarian. I'd never had lentils, tofu or nuts and I love them all- along with LOADS of vegetables. My love of chocolate has remained consistent though

    My fave BBQ things are:
    - vegetable & marinated tofu skewers (some good veggies to use are spanish onion, capsicum, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms)
    - haloumi
    - corn on the cob
    - shop bought chickpea sausages or burgers if we're dashing to a BBQ unprepared

    Oh Yum! I like the sound of those. Are they on your blog yet?

    I am currently cooking cakes for DD's school play tomorrow. A cherry tea cake and a banana & walnut loaf. Both vegan of course. They smell so good. DH is hovering, wishing he could have some. I am wolfing down dark choc and red wine instead!

    Good luck with your nutmeat recipe Raupe.

    The quinoa sausage rolls aren't perfect yet. I will blog them when they are. Last week's were yummy but not quite right. I'm going to par-bake some and freeze them, because they're pretty easy.

    I've got a hankering for a noodle soup tonight. Might not be able to hold out that long, so it might be lunch I'm thinking noodles, zucchini, pumpkin, some sort of bean, pea and/or lentil, enough tomato for colour, not so much that my throat burns all night.

    it's veeeewwwwyyy quiet in here!

    How are we all? Any new recipes to share?

    I'm loving pasta at the moment (carb craving much? hah).... making the tastiest sauce - its just your standard tinned chopped toms, onion, garlic & herbs but LORDY is it good. The trick seems to be to cook it down so it reduces heaps, it goes sooo sweet and nommy. nomnomnom. So good with zucchini and mushrooms... mmm....

    Hmm quinoa sausage rolls sound good. I was given a recipe for vegie sausage rolls the other day by a lady I work with, she has just been diagnosed as coeliac so she was getting rid of some of her gluten-ey recipes, and she said these rolls are well tasty, so I can't wait to make them. TBH I haven't been cooking for myself very much, it's hard not being in my own house, especially when Nan does all the cooking when I am at work... I never even get the chance to help her!! lol. I guess I shouldn't complain. Oh - Nan & Pa generally eat vegetarian about 4 nights a week now! I think I have convinced them it's a good idea.

    I should be moving into my own place soon, and I can't wait to get back into the kitchen. I have so many cooking ideas floating around I want to try, I really miss cooking.

    Ohh *Ash* - Can you please post the Cherry Teacake recipe? yuuuum I love cherries.

    And Arimeh - Would you mind posting the Chickpea patty recipe? I think I might have another go at them and would like to use a recipe this time so they turn out better.

    Oh so far my only gripe with being vego is eating at restaurants - apparently everywhere has decided that the ONE vegetarian meal that is a must have on the menu is either spinach and ricotta ravioli or canelloni. Seriously? That's it?? I went out to dinner last friday - only veg meal was the ravioli. Going out to a work dinner tomorrow night, so I checked out the online menu thing and gueeeessss what. Canelloni only. Ugh. Does anyone have any suggestions for good vego food in the (lower) Blue Mountains/Syd area? Surely there is somewhere out there that offers something other than spinach and ricotta ravioli

    Sibbie - i have quite a few recipes now for chick pea patties, so might need to list a couple and get you to pick which one.. lol

    AFM - vegetarian is going really well, had roast vegetable cannelloni last night, yummmooo!!! And tonight is a low fat vegetable fritatta.. now I have the challenge of trying to eat vegetarian AND gluten free while my mum is here next week.. recipes shouldn't be too hard to convert I imagine....

    I am not a vegetarian, but have been having some serious vegetable cravings this pregnancy! So I have been dabbling a bit in vegetarian cooking and came across a recipe that I just had to share with you lovely ladies (you can leave out the anchovies and cheese if you are vegan):

    PASTA WITH SIMPLE ZUCCHINI SAUCE

    Serves 2

    Ingredients

    * 200 g orecchiette pasta
    * 3 large Zucchinis
    * Extra Virgin Olive Oil for cooking
    * 6 Whole Anchovies
    * 3 Garlic Cloves
    * sea salt
    * freshly Ground black Pepper
    * fried Chilli Flake
    * fresh Parmesan to serve

    Method

    1. Bring a large pot of water to the boil. Add the pasta and cook “al dente”.
    2. Meanwhile, grate the zucchinis and place aside.
    3. In a large frying pan, heat plenty of olive oil and add the anchovies, crushed garlic and sea salt.
    4. Fry for about 3 minutes, stirring continuously until the anchovies start to soften.
    5. Sprinkle in the chilli flakes and freshly ground pepper, followed by the grated zucchinis and a dash more olive oil.
    6. Stir for a further 2 minutes.
    7. When the pasta is cooked (it should take 10 minutes), drain well and add to the sauce.
    8. Toss the pasta through the sauce and spoon onto plates.
    9. Grate fresh Parmesan over the top and finish with freshly ground pepper.

    Mel, there's heaps on my blog with how to convert to GF. Frittata is a great option for that!

    Sibbie - Cannelloni OR the good old vegie stack. Usually for $24. Vegan stuff is even harder. I ordered what looked like a vegan meal today on the menu and it came out loaded with cheese. LOADED. Mum was ordering for me, so didn't check - can't blame her, she's not really used to it. And heck, any meal I don't have to cook is a winner.

    We're going out tonight, because Mum's in town. I have requested Thai, so that I can have a see-through-time-fifteen-chilli-hot Tom Yum. Come on baby!

    I don't think the Thai worked. But good lord the tom yum was the best thing in the world. Our power went out, so it was pretty good that we'd made plans to go out anyway!

    My blog is here

    No more grated beetroot for a while. Mum is staying, and she's on a low Vit K diet (due to DVT) so it's kind of out, because I can barely be bothered to make one meal, let alone two.

    Exciting thing #1: I'm posting with a baby strapped to me A 4kg one. No scrawny vegan babies here!

    Exciting thing #2: I'm having a go at quinoa sausage rolls again. If they're awesome, I will post the recipe. Fingers crossed!
