We are new to this site, and have been TTC since Feb 08. We have recently decided to change our donor, and have since then decided to change birth mum also.
We went through a kind of creepy experience when our experienced known donor - from Sydney became decidedly weird. We saw him soon after one of the couples he had helped had a baby, and he ran around excited that he was a father and had a new baby. That was a bit unsettling, and then he proceeded to talk in a way that sounded kind of cult-ish about wanting to father so many children, and for everyone to all be friends and visit with each other. So after some intense discussion we decided that we would look elsewhere.
Our second donor was much younger and very eager to help, but turned out to have fertility issues of his own. So that was a big disappointment for everyone.
After further investigation into the fertility laws of SA we found out that I can access Reproductive technology cos I have PCOS (diagnosed at age14). It was at this point we decided to change birth mums, and to go through a clinic.
We are currently waiting for our first appointment there and are hoping that we will have success!
I know the dramas choosing a donor can bring. The story of the older experienced donor sounds familiar, I am sure we had discussions with him ourselves and had the same ideas, if his initials is JM he has been on a current affair and has over 50 children out there who he wants to all become friends. That would be fine if it was an independent decision of the mums but he sounds quite pushy. Our donor we chose in the end is also from Sydney and fantastic to chat to, very open and respects us as a couple a great deal. Only 2 mths until we have our first try so fingers crossed!
I hope that the clinic decision goes well for you, keep us updated :-)
HI all, although i have not posted on this site for some time I have remained an intermittent lurker. It is now about 18 months since we started ttc i had gotten so disheartened and obsessed with allthings ttc and baby-related (which was not helped by the fact that my work place is full of babies!)that i needed a bit of a break from bb. Welcome to those who have joined since i've not been around HI especially to Nurse27- I notice you are in Adelaide and so am I. I am curious about your experience re. accessing reproductive technology services in SA. Are you going with Flinders IVF or Repromed and what has your experience so far been like? My Dp and I started ttc with a known donor in may 2007 and other than a brief BFP and very early miscarriage/?chemical pregnancy in Nov 2007 we hav had nothing but BFNs. In may this year we had our first appt at repromed. What we know to date is that although our donor has lots of swimmers his motility is not great and he has a very high number of swimmers with abnormal morphology. Additionally, I have a short luteal phase and low progesterone levels. We considered changing donors but for a whole heap of reasons have decided not to. Our donor has been taking menevit. I have been on clomid and then pregnyl injections and am also having accupuncture! We have been ploughing through the various blood test, ultrasounds and the mandatory counselling sessions for us and our donor and more recently the 3 of us together! His sperm has been frozen and quarrantined for 3 months and he is about to have repeat bloods done...all this before we even get to an assisted cycle! The slowness of the whole process has been really frustrating, made worse by my own paranoia about my age (36 and a half!). Repromed dr has encouraged us to keep trying ourselves as it is not impossible for us to conceive ourselves but we didn't in the last couple of months as i just could not face more BFNs. This month, with most of the tests and all the counselling sessions behind us I feel more settled and positive and we are again doing our oen inseminations at home. At this stage we are unlikely to be able to start our first ICSI (which is what we need) cycle until Jan 2009. Anyway, that was a long ramble re where things are up to with me and with some renewed hope I plan to be a bit more active again on BB
Hi Drgirl! It has been a long time since we have seen you around here. The last we heard was when you told us you had a BFP so am very sorry that it didn't stick. I had one of those in a past relationship and its difficult to decide whether it was a early miscarriage or something else, very confusing. I can imagine what an exhaustive journey this has been for you so hopefully positive changes will take place from here on in. We are finally all organised to ttc in december with our known donor, it would be just dreamy if things worked out the first time but we are prepared for a long road not to be disappointed. I know what its like having babies all around you at work so it is difficult to keep your mind focused, I will be working in special care in a few weeks for 8 weeks so that will be even worse! Anyway, good luck with a BFP soon!
