Concerning number 2's - To push or not to push ? (could be TMI?)

Sorry girls but this has just been a pressing question (no pun intended) in the back of my mind. Ok, so I have a little trouble at the best of times when it comes to "going" for number 2's and now that I'm PG I don't really want to be pushing hard to squeeze out a number 2 ? There I said it ! My concern is if I push too hard could I potentially harm bubs ?

No, I don't think you can harm bub by pushing to do poos, but you could harm yourself. And you soooooo don't want haemorroids! I had the opposite problem while pregnant, but after the birth I had a hard time (no pun intended ). Pears, and pear juice, is fantastic for that (although, don't wander too far from a toilet!). And possibley a good look at your diet might help too if you always have this problem? Make sure you drink enough water too.

    No you won't hurt bubs.

After I had my first baby the physio in the hospital taught me about the correct postion/technique for pooing. Until then I had no idea there was such a thing lol.

    Anyways this is it.....

Get a stool or basin or similar that you can put in front of the loo to put your feet on. The aim is to raise your feet so that your knees are higher than your hips (so you are in a more squat like position because that is the position that our bodies were designed to use - the throne loo has only been around for a couple of hundred years). You should then lean forward slightly (you can rest your hands on your knees) and make your mouth into an O. You should keep your back straight and not slump. Breath out and as you do so relax your muscles. Then push - you shouldn't push for more than a minute. If you do stop and breathe out and relax again.

OOh thanks Leisha ! So many puns ! I'll have to remember pear juice. I've been trying to drink prune juice but not too much because then I get the opposite problem and then stress about expelling all the nutrients from my body ! Can't win I tell you !
I drink about a 1/12 litres of water a day and I tried Metamucil and Benefibre and was up to my ears full of fibre and nothing ?? Tried prunes and same thing, but prune juice seems to help?

Dachlostar that's so interesting ! I'm going to try it when I get home !! I just wasn't sure about those times when I haven't had my prune juice intake if it was ok to push? Thanks for the instructions

I just wanted to second what Dachlostar said. When I was pregnant I used to have a phone book that I put my feet on while I would go to the toilet. I found it very helpful

Don't think you can hurt bubs. But my sister use to have what we call a "stooling stool" and it was one of those little steps that you buy um, trying to think of what they are actually called you can sit on them when your bathing bubs etc... And also, if your having to push that hard to do a poo you might want to talk to the doc about it best of luck and happy pooing!

when i was in hossy with DD my sister saw the instructions of the right position to poo on the sign in the toilet, she thought it was funny and said "haha they even give you instructions of how to poo!". I would have thought it was funny too if i hadnt needed the damned instructions myself post partum! (so not funny at the time ) Definately try to get things sorted in that department cos it can definately cause problems with 'roids etc drink lots of water, fibre e.t.c.
