Howdy!
You all sound like you're sooo organised and on track!
I - on the other hand - am not! I've done my little dumbell exercises twice in the last 2 days (will do them again tonight) but nothing else. They're a 2kg too - not 1 as I thought.
I figure doing this little bit is a start...
*jab, jab, hook* yeeeeeeeha!
Just did my first ever combat class and i loved it! I joined the gym a few weeks ago and and have been playing it safe with a bit of running, pilates, yanno.......... the things that make me feel good because i'm at the gym but are not making me want to vomit. ;) I was a bit nervous, but got through without going the wrong way and kicking the dude next to me in the head. I think i am addicted!
The gym i joined didn't have any Les Mills classes until this week. So i am going to give a few others a go too. Keen to give Attack a whirl i think. I am over being unfit and want to sweat!
Did i mention i am hurting???? It's only 3 hours post class and i can feel i'm going to be in a world of pain tomorrow.
So....... thought i'd join in to get a bit of motivation from you lovely ladies. Hope you don't mind a party crasher. ;)
Give me an N! :cheer: Goooooooo Nettie! I'm glad you did something, you've got to start somewhere!
Welcome JungleMum!! No party crashers here, just COMBAT SMASHERS!!!!
Leesa - so exciting that you're going to have a BBer in your class tomorrow! Can't wait to hear how you went Leckert!
Ok, I'm going to toddle off. Did I mention that we went to the farm door of the Mundella Yoghurt Factory today (pot set, traditional, full of good bacteria, ultra yummy yoghurt) & DH, DD & I have consumed our body weights in yoghurt? But its sooooooooo good! Will have to work harder tomorrow!
PS CQ your night sounds FABBO!! Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell yeah! Woohoo - Combat rules! And you know it Lees, you just have to come back to the dark side...grapvine accross if you have to but DO IT! ;)
I am very cranky...sorry Leesa I know you're a PT and i'm generalising but I got Ash (don't think she's on BB anymore>>) signed up to the gym today. She had her free assesment with a PT and was apparently told that she is not "ready" for Combat yet. I am fuming, it ****es me off so much when (some, ok...a lot) PT's tell peeps not to bother with classes because they want the $$ and don't want them to see what amazing results they can achieve on their own without a PT. You know what...if you can't do your job on your own merits then get a new job!!!
Grrr, sorry but it really ****es me off :(
I totally understand your feelings there Rach, and they are totally justified. I am more 'into' group fitness' than PT, I did PT more so for the increased knowledge base - as opposed to the $$$ (we all know the fitness industry ain't the best place to work if you want to be rich lol).
Same thing has happened at a few gyms I've worked at in the past. How did I fix it??
I spoke to the GFM and told them it's evident the PT's (other than me) needed to do a few classes so they COULD understand that group fitness is for E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E...say it slowly now you naughty PT's "E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E". She spoke to the manager who made it happen. Remember, the clubs pay big dollars for the Les Mills licences and need bums on seats to make it worthwhile. It could finanically effect the club, something management SHOULD be interested in!
They should be encoraging the person to get fit - not everyone is happy to run on a treadmill and do old skool burpees under the guidance of a PT. Group fitness kicks butt anyday!
all i have to say is............ouch.
CQ- i haven't done real exercise for almost 3 years, granted i used to be super fit ( not sure if that makes any difference or not!), but if i can do combat in my current sloth like state then anyone can! :p I bet you were ****ed, that sux.
Must say, i much prefer group fitness. I never used to get into it, just ran and surfed. But i did a boot camp a few years ago and made me realise that i push myself harder and get much better results working out with a group of people.
Winter- i've never heard of that yoghurt, sounds divine.
CQ - I'm going to tell D that! I got a message from him telling me to "BE CAREFUL!!!!!" if I go to a class tomorrow night (because he misses his Mummy and Daddy on holiday and wants to go visit them  long story but I'm going to pay out on it for aaaaaaaggggggeeeeeeesssssss ). I plan to message him at a decent hour to tell him that injuring myself hadn't occurred to me until he mentioned it! And I now won't be going! :o It's one of my big fears (re-injuring) and I know he's looking out for me... but PARTY POOPER! Esp since I have group issues so going would have been HUGE for me! Lucky I know where his heart is!
Nettie - good on you! LIttle steps is just fine.
Junglemum - YAY! I love after gym hurts :)
Ok girls, IF I can get myself psyched for a class... what should I do? I need something easy going with as little twisting as poss as I need to protect my back still.... and not pilates as I do that with my physio...
I'm hoping to get on my treadmill after work if I can keep my eyes open!
To be honest hun, I don't know too much about your injuries so Leesa would prob be better to answer...it sounds like its very bad though and I would feel uncomfortable recommending anything to you. Ash isn't injured - just hasn't exercised.
I would say def Combat (lots of twisting) why don't you ask your PT if you should or not? You're scaring me hun!!!!
ETA Leesa, I will have a chat with the GFM - not quite as cranky as yesterday lol. I don't know this PT either so that prob makes it worse. I'm taking her to do Pump today but if there was a Combat on we would be doing that with our middle fingers pointed towards the gym lol!
Well done Junglemum! Welcome to you to the dark side as well! Can I get a Kiiii-ahhhhh!!!!
I survived  Leesa's a great teacher  didn't even get too upset with me when I had to drop down to just the bar and no weights to get through (I started with 1kg weights on the bar). Although my shoulders and top of my chest are complaining about it.:p Not sure how I'll feel later on today (and tomorrow). Tomorrow's exercise is to hit Harbourtown and work out the legs with the walking and the credit card with the shopping (need to get DS some new clothes he's into 00s now aghhh) - going with some school teacher friends.
He he Liz - you're technqiue was great - just like riding a push bike again, isn't it!
MG - I would seriously consider a low impact style class. If your gym only has Les Mills classes then I'd suggest something like Attack (hang on, let me explain) and keep it low impact the entire time. So instead of running on the spot you march on the spot, and take out all the jumping options. Real important though, let your instructor now beforehand your injuries and say you will stick to low impact options - and that it'd be great if he/she could demonstrate them as the class goes on. The instructor should always show the low options anyway, but some get carried away and forget sometimes. I can't wait to the day you tell us you're going to do one!
CQ - drag that PT into a Combat class and give 'em what for I say :D. KIAH!!!
Junglemum - so glad you're with us! And another in fave of group fitness  awesome!!
AFM - I instructed Pump today, with Liz in the class . I don't think I was too tough, was I? I like people to stretch themselves a bit, but certainly not overdo it either. A happy medium .
I've been doing two classes a day midday and evening for the last three days - so I may still do ummm, maybe Body Jam tonight. Its been working wonders on the scales, but I think I'm becoming addicted - seriously. One class used to satisfy me, but now as I do two a day I'd feel slack if I do anything less that .
I was hoping to hear how you went Liz & Leesa! I'm glad to hear it was great. I'd love to come to your class Leesa so we'll just have to hear all about it from Liz as she keeps going each week.
Leesa- I wish I could do a class twice a day & I miss Body Jam. They don't do BodyJam at my gym, might have to talk DH into looking after DD on Sat morn so I can duck down to my old gym for a BodyJam class. You must be a skinny minny at this rate!
AFM - I had my assessment today. I'm 33% body fat :o :o :o NOT HAPPY JAN!! This is the fattest I've ever been! I'm 62kgs and 5' so a super shorty so any excess makes me look huge. I'm determined to do something everyday until I loose this extra weight. The gym instructor doing the assessment told me that they have Ladies Circuits on Mon, Wed, Fri that are like group PT sessions and change each week. Could be in the gym, could be outside on the grass, could be anything. I'm going to go along tomorrow and try one. I think at the moment, I'm better off trying everything the gym has to offer and then settling into some kind of routine.
Ok, whatever you're doing today ladies, in the immortal words of Combat Queen "SMASH IT!!!" :cheer:
Winter - with your assessment how did she get your BF%? Was it callipers or a a mchine? I'm not saying she is wrong but if she used callipers then it really depends on how good she is with them - it can really fluctuate depending on who does the measuring. If it was a machine did it just go through your hands, or just your feet or both?
Just FYI, If it was a machine you stand on then the current goes from your foot, up your leg and down the other side...so if you are heavier on the bottom your bf% will be higher than it should be. And the other way if it goes in one hand, accross te body and out the other side and you are bigger on top then it can also be out. If your using a machine then the ones that you stand on AND hold something are the most accurate.
But short of special eqiupment where they totally submurge you in water, thats as good as its going to get lol!
Just stood on a machine CQ. I'm not really concerned with BF measurement TBH. This is just a starting point, I'm not going to be like this forever. I'm still breastfeeding too so my humungous boobies probably account for 10% !!
Don't stress CQ!
Thanks Leesa. I have no idea what classes the gym offers, but I prob won't go there for my first few classes anyway... D might be tempted to look in on me! Although he does offer to do one with me...
Well, I'm home early from work. My nausea is horrendous! I've booked in with Osteo because I'm thinking my neck is out...
Oooh..I have just started back at the gym after having DD 8wks ago
Hope it's ok I join.
I love Combat..did my first class last night. I am also a huge fan of Spin, the cycle one. It really gives a massive work out and gets the heart rate going!
I was doing Combat last night and my girl friend pointed out a girl similar in size to me and said she had lost 20kg..she looked amazing(oh that sounds a bit strange )
I used to do Pilates which the gym offers so will get back into that too as it's great for targeting problem areas.
I am loving being back into the swing of excerise..went out and got myself kitted out with new stuff..new sneakers from Athletes foot (they did that foot scan thing) and new work out wear, even new socks!
I also think excersice gives me more energy for the important things in life such as DTD  Which keeps DH very happy too! And running around after my kids.
x Heather
Welcome Heather! Another Combat addict yeah!!!
IKWYM about kitting yourself out in new gear...I have a small (ok, enormous) Lorna Jane addiction. Went through my wardrobe the other day and I have, no kidding, over $1500 worth of LJ gear in there :o Woah! But I don't have to justify it to anyone other than myself  The other day I was doing my CPR refresher and the trainer said "you like LJ huh?" I said "yeah, most of us do" and he proceeded to reel off the LJ stuff I was wearing...hairband, top, pants and socks...then he said "I bet even undies too" which I think was crossing the line lol!
Tell me about Lorna Jane gear CQ. I need some new gear. Where do I get it from? I think feeling like you look good is an important motivator to get to the gym, feel like you belong and then work hard so you are the part & don't just look it. :D
Winter are you in Oz?
yep, WA.

Yay! Have fun...wish I could come with you!
ETA - if you want comfy pants I reccommend the Flashdance Pants - i've got 5 pairs of Flashies in 4 different colours and I LIVE in them!
have you tried lululemon? I LOVE love love my gym gear from there. So comfy and even flattering! $$$ but worth every cent. I love looking like i know what i'm doing when i don't! :p
Heather- 8 weeks???? :o Far out my baby is nearly 10 months and i have just got my head around going to the gym. I'm impressed.
I lurve lululemon but yep even more pricey then LJ :( Wish we could claim it back on tax...!
:yeahthat: Absolutely!! I swear my boobs are bigger than my head! And I'm talking each boob! Imagine that on a 5 foot frame, if you will!
Goodness Heather! 8 weeks! You are amazing!! Give that newborn a cuddle from me, I'm having newborn withdrawals! :)
Oh and CQ, I checked out Lorna Jane online and the clothes look great! i might have to duck up to one of the shops and have a looksee. I like the 3/4 flashdance pants, they will prolly fit my sort legs!!
Can't you??? surely it's work uniform? I got some new 3/4's a top, jacket and pants all 60% off at their post christmas sale. Bargain!
Winter- I just got a new bra and i have now left half the alphabet behind. Up to E. :shakehead: i wore 2 bras and two singlets last night to try and tame them.
Whoa mumma! I wear a crop top and when I stand sideways i'm nearly totally flat! But thats the price you pay I guess. To be honest if I had big knockers they would totally get in the way lol!
Nope, can't claim unless it has a logo on it. When I buy Les Mills clothes I can but nothing else :(
And Winter - if you get the full length Flashies you can roll the leg up and there are little buttons ;)
I'm down to an E after wearing Gs for my nursing bras!! Its the BF!! My boobs aren't normally this big!
I finished off today with a 3km walk & dip in the ocean with DD & DH. Was gorgeous!
Once you start moving again, don't you realise how much you missed it? And wonder why it was so hard to start in the first place?
:bluecheer: N :cheer: E :bluecheer: T :cheer: T :bluecheer: I :cheer: E :bluecheer:
GGGOOOO NETTIE!
You ladies are horrible, horrible I say () for mentioning Lorna Jane and Lululemon - you're all tempting me to shop online, aren't you?? I used to have a stack of Lorna Jane clothing but Les Mills takes up the bulk of my wardrobe now (well, I've got soo much I have to keep it separately in a suitcase under the bed ).
Nettie - what have u been up to exercise wise? are you finding it easy to fit into your schedule or are there a few teething problems? Loving ya cheer squad!!!
Winter - sounds like an awesome time you've had with DH and DD. So great when the family can be involved too, isn't it? Let me know how you go if you manage to get to a Jam class eh?
CQ - I'm also a lucky person to have the um, chest size I do - imagine teaching with huge knockers? Imagine doing a hook or upper cut in Combat, what if you made contact and punched yourself in the boobie (can that happen?)..ok ok, I'm getting a bit silly now - sorry!
Welcome Heather - great to see another Combatter amongst us! :D
AFM - I did body jam this evening, I got some huge stomach pains from about the 20 min mark onwards to the end of the class. You know me, I just worked through it. Popped a few pills to take the pain away afterwards and it seems to have settled a bit now, probably coz i'm just sitting on my butt telling you lovely ladies about my day . I've been feeling a bit tired lately - so I might just limit myself to one class and a walk tomorrow instead . Its obviously my body's way of saying 'slow down'.
I hope everyone has had an awesome day and is gearing up for the last day before the weekend!!!
Thanks everyone for the welcome :D
Junglemum and Winter: If I didn't start now, it could have been never! I have a gym membership which I suspended while pregnant and re-activated on a spare of the moment decision so needed to get a move on so as not to waste it. And my DH was also mentioning that I had re-activated my membership and why wasn't I using it :) Fair point! Although my pelvic floors were telling me to take it easy!!!
Winter: I am hearing you on the BF thing..I am normally a C cup and with BF I am a DD-E.
When our gym first opened I jumped on straight away as they were offering an amazing deal that would guarantee the price for 3yrs.
I love Lorna Jean work out wear too! When I bought my new things I got addidas stuff as we don't have a Lorna Jean near by.
I live 20mins from Melbournes CBD and our new shopping centre is getting a Lorna Jean this year..can't wait as I also like her leisure wear range as well.
Leesa: Are you a PT? I like the Les Mills Cycle. I will be doing RPM on Monday and then Spin when the gym get's back into full swing after School Hol's. The gym uses alot of Les Mills.
Thankfully the gym has a creche, well normally anyway, it closed over the Christmas New Year period and not starting again until the 18th Jan :wall: So I am going at night, can be a struggle as I have to make sure DD (Tess) has been fed and ok before I leave.
When I did my first Combat class on Wednesday I squeezed myself into my pre pregnancy sports bra :o the poor girls were so squashed in, glad now though after that combat class  I have an Intimo sports bra which is great!
Have a great weekend everyone
I just did a "Ladies Circuit" at my gym. Fon't be fooled by the easy sounding name, I walked out of there a quivering mess! DH had to carry DD as I had nothing left in me. Even now, 45mins later, I am shaking!
There were 4 of us "ladies" and a PT and he put us through our paces. Warmed up on treadmills, weights down the back, lunges etc, then ab work on the floor, then moved to cardio on the tread mills where we had to hold 1kg weights in each hand above our heads while he jacked up the incline and the pace! At 1-2 min intervals we would be able to lower the weights or do alternate punching with them, but I thought I was going to fall off the back of the treadmill! The incline was at 14% and speed at 5.5 km/h at the end and I had to bring it back to 5km/h with my weights to my chest rather than above my head to finish! Then we moved onto the cycles and did sprint / interval training for 10 mins argh! and finished off with a cool down on the steppers.... watch me wobble like jelly on a plate!
Have I told you I love my gym? Its a council run one and this Ladies Circuit runs 3 times a week, is part of gym membership or $11 casual with free creche. Its the cheapest Personal Training around! I think I'm going to do it 3 times a week for the next month and see where it gets me. Combat on Tuesdays still CQ! I'm not deserting ship! :)
Hope everyone else is going well and shaking their booties today! :cheer:
Winter - I hurt just reading that!
I promised D I'd train today in lieu of our normal session... but I still feel crap. Amazed I saw the day out at work! BUT I hope to do a double session tomorrow (am then pm). If DD's dad gets home early enough tonight, I might hit the treadmill... Someone motivate me! I know I'll probably feel better after a session... I'm just struggling with this constant nausea!!! And I'm desperate to try my new songs on my play list - Dirty by Bodyrockers... THEY ROCK!
Leesa - arms/chest still sore (stopped after about 1pm yesterday started again 1:30am this morning when I got up to Blake) just near armpits and chest join (I don't know what that area is called pecs???). Thighs started a bit this afternoon as well, just at the top and front. This probably means I could put up the weights except for the fact that I can't get through the session with any more than I currently do.
Saw some LJ stuff today at Harbourtown thought about it, but was a little scared to try any on and was thinking about my budget - spent less than $80 for the day so relieved there.
Give me an M! :cheer: Give me a G! :cheer:
Get on your treadmill MG, you KNOW you'll feel better for it!! :cheer:
You're a good one for sticking to your budget in the face of temptation Liz! Willpower!
Thanks Winter  I messaged my PT asking for a leave pass for tonight and he conveniently hasn't replied  Cheeky bugger. I even told him why! Waiting for A to get home and then I WILL get on my treadmill... Even if it is just a light session...
OMG. I did it. I made myself get on the treadmill (after D messaging and saying he gave permission for me to skip tonight and do extra tomorrow!). I struggled BIG time tonight! I *tried* to do a light session... but I get bored and end up going hard. I felt soooo ill. I actually thought I was going to vomit! And it took me much longer to recover as well! My headache is worse than ever as well. Might get a massage tomorrow maybe... at one of those little Chinese places in the plaza. Will see.
Liz - Thanks for the cheer!
Leesa- yeah, time gets a bit precious. Mornings are the best for me, but if I get up to exercise and DS wakes up - I'll need to tend to him (which will mean the end of any exercise). I would like to start walking again in the mornings, but DH isn't quite at the point where he will see the importance of that time being sacred to my exercise - like I do. So I kinda feel like 'why bother'.. I'm also trying to 'fix' my plantar fascitis (heel spurs) - so too much walking is off the cards.
End of the day - I get too tired and it's much harder for me to get motivated (and I'm easily distracted by TV, Computer, etc).
Things are a bit up in the air at the moment (have applied for a job in town) so not sure what to start... :wall:
