that's really interesting about the insulin drip. I was on only 18 units of insulin and was advised to stop my insulin on the day of my induction. Now I think about it, I had the insulin that day... then gels later that day. Then the next day more gel, broke waters, synto drip (all with no insulin - hmm interesting). During labour I ate & drank as I wanted (until the middie spotted it and wouldn't let me - too worried about a potential CS I guess ). Anyway, they made me check my BSL once during labour... and I hadn't had any insulin for about 30+ hours by that stage. I can't remember but I think it was ok.

edaj84 - In regard to induction, we did a fair bit of questioning becauses I think the methods of estimating size are total crap (and my obs agreed with me - didn't think it was worth doing). My endo said that placenta function can be compromised in GD patients, and they used to see more stillbirths in GD moms who had gone OVER term than the "normal" population. So their mantra is very much a ... get bub out while we KNOW your placenta is functioning fine. In the end, we weren't prepared to risk that, so were happy to agree with the induction - but it was a very considered opinion and we checked with a number of different medical professionals, plus did our own research. There was also size concerns... but my bub was only 7lb 7oz (3.4kg) so not that big... but I'm pretty little too). Interestingly no-one assessed my placenta (I didn't even know they could), but i did have CTG monitoring during the last week. I pushed my induction out to 38+5. Hossie was flat chat, so ended up being on on 39 weeks which I was happy enough with. My obs said he would have wanted it to be 38 weeks if my insulin was high (70-80 upwards were his words).

Regarding special care, my bub was "admitted" but mostly roomed with me. I would talk to your scn BEFORE the birth and find out what they will want to do - i.e. let bub room with you but just back to SCN for feeding? give comp feeds if BSL's of bub low?

Becci - good luck, I hope you don't get it! And congrats on the PG!

Townsvillegirl - lol that kinda made me giggle, too much sympathy. It's great that you're feeling fine about it all. Bummer re being lighter and still getting it - I'm hoping that being lighter will save me next time too.

Artechim - I have my fingers crossed for you too! Sounds like you're doing great

Well after my little scare, seems like my levels are ok, but my GP and I agreed that I'll just monitor my BSL's occasionally. As she said, I'm doing everything I'd do if I was pre-diabetic anyway... losing weight, eating low GI, exercising. I've got another 7.5kg to lose to try get my waistline below the 80cm mark... so hoping to do that before getting PG again. I figure every little bit helps... and if i still get GD next time... well so be it.
