Linzy - that's interesting that you've had a hypo (not fun for you tho!). My endo told me that PG women hardly ever get hypos because of the way the placenta makes you insulin-resistant (i.e. I don't understand the scientific reason behind it). Either way I can understand that you wouldn't want to risk one. How are your levels going now? What did the nurse think? The one thing I want to reiterate is that sometimes the same food on a different day gives you a very different result - depending on whether your tired, busy, stressed, all sorts of factors can influence it. So even when you do everything right, sometimes you'll just cop a good or bad result.

Well I'm off to the doc on Weds. My fasting levels in the morning are still over 6 (but only low 6's) but it's got me a bit nervous.

snowchickie79 - I've lost the required amount of weight (more than 10%) and I'm walking every day... but I think I need to focus on eating a bit more low GI, it's just such a royal PITA with all my other dietary restrictions that I was really hoping to avoid it

I've told my DH that if I get GD again I want a new King Size bed to cheer me up lol.

Belfie: I went to see the Diabetic Ob on Monday again and he told me that he doesn't think I had a hypo at 20 weeks, he says it occurs more if ur on insulin and I wasn't positive for GD yet back then. He thinks what might of happened is that I already had a high blood sugar level that day and the softdrink and a chocolate bar just made it higher as he said normally if your having a hypo it starts to get better 10 minutes after something very sweet like softdrink or it could have been low blood pressure or something. I don't know what it was but my gp put me on leave the next week as I work at Bunnings in a huge metal shed with no aircon walking up and down aisles, up and down ladders on a cement floor lol

I have a couple more issues now with this diabetes, I have only put a kilo on in the last month and they think bubs is a little small, though the radiographer on wednesday said 2.1 kgs at 33 weeks is average. They have upped my insulin again to 13 at night and 19 in the morning, but said if my fasting bsl is under 5.5 to gauge my own insulin requirement. So this morning it was 5.3 so I had 15 units, had my breaky, 2 hour post breaky level was 7, so it worked today yay

I have heard that stress can affect your blood sugar levels..if this is really the case then there is no wonder I can't keep mine stable. I have alot of stressful things going on in my life, not just the pregnancy!

The Diabetic Ob, told me that my thyroid blood tests were fine, he's waiting on the Type 1 LADA result to come through as he's not seen someone so thin with diabetes before he called me a 'pleasant surprise'. He's just a little concerned that I'm not gaining weight, and bubs is a little small and at this time I should be gaining the most weight. I'm eating double what I was a month ago, but I'm always starving! And I'm not working or excersizing so I should be gaining some weight. I gained 16 kilos with my son, this time I've gained 10 and slowed right down..basically since I started with the insulin..weird.

I have to ring the Diabetic Educator every 3 days with my bsl's and insulin results, and weigh myself once a week now to see if I gain anything. Bub's is ok though! She's squirming around 24/7

Belfie - my fasting levels never went back below 6 after DS was born and during the first tri with my second pregnancy they were always 6-6.5 fasting. But as the pregnancy went on, they dropped down to normal and I didn't get GD. I am not sure why, but I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth lol. I hope that is a bit of comfort for you - just because they are a wee bit high now doesn't mean the worst.

Linzy, when I had hypos they didn't last long once I had some sugar - only about 10 minutes to come right. They are scary though - the first one I was out in town in in the space of 5 minutes I went from fine to sweaty and weak and my vision and hearing was fading out - I think I was only seconds from passing out but my friend realised what was happening and helped me sit down and eat something.

Ah Artechim, you're made my day - thank you thank you! cos that is honestly the most reassuring thing I've heard. Feeling much more relaxed now.

Linzy - I reckon you've been getting exercise at work! I do a desk job and it just doesn't compare to how much you wouldn've been walking at work. I also didn't put on any weight at all once I got GD and my obs wasn't worried - but I wasn't as skinny as you either (I only put on 5.5kg in my PG). It does seem weird that you're always hungry, do you feel like you're eating enough? Sounds like they're monitoring you well though which is great. Btw, which side of Melb are you? I'm out in Vermont... figure I shoulda looked for you at our Bunnings tehehe.

Hahaha I WAS getting exercise at work (especially my mouth - customer service, great for chatter boxes ) but I went on leave at the end of October because of the 'wobbly day' haven't worked since. I was going for nice walks before xmas but then my pelvis started hurting too much so can't really walk far now. Even around the shopping centre for an hour is enough to put me on my a**** for a day.

    Oh-oh

    I have my GTT tomorrow

I have been feeling off for a few weeks now and well - I have been monitoring my sugar and it seems pretty high. Fasting sugars are 6.0-6.9. That and the fact in 1 month I jumped 4kg!

Strangley enough, at the begining of the pregnancy I felt fine and my fasting sugars were about 4.3-4.4.

I have cut out all sugar and bad fats (like butter) and gone back to diet drinks and heathlier foods. Crossing fingers this works.

6 - 6.9 fasting bsl would make my diabetes nurse have a heart attack, it does sound high, i think they like it to be under 5.5 (well throught the Northern Hospital here in Melb they do) Goodluck with your test!! I got alot of support from the girls in here over the last few weeks (thanks ladies ) so keep us informed!

It does make you feel ill, its hard to explain how you feel tho. I started with a dry tongue, cracked lips, tiredness but not being able to drop off to sleep, thirsty and just blah when ever I felt my sugars were high. I started feeling like that at about 17 weeks but when they did the test at 17 weeks it was normal, same thing happened with my son..it was like I was getting the symptoms but it wasn't showing up in my bloods. They eventually found it at 36 weeks with my son, and this time at 28 weeks but this time I'm on insulin.

I have cut out weetbix all together, bananas and peaches and my bsl's with 19 units of insulin in the morning and 13 at night are now stablized..only took a month of insulin tweaking and 7 weeks of diet monitoring.

And I am 90 per cent energetic! I have been happier and socialising with my inlaws and family again instead of hiding in the bedroom in a bad mood. I'm also not eating every hour like I was when my sugars were high. Now I can eat every four hours no problems..what a change it's made to finally get them down. I had no idea how unwell i was feeling both physicaly and mentally for that whole 7 weeks!

So my big no no's are weetbix, bananas, peaches and spaghetti
