Belfie and Jewel, that's re-assuring to know that not all GD babies are big.

Well I've gotten a slight shock this morning. my fasting BSL was 6 mg: I don't understand why. Is there anything I can do about this? I'm guessing that if this keeps up I may need to go on insulin at night? The only other explanation I am wondering is that I have a cold and from what jewel has said I'm wondering if this could affect BSL's?

Your cold could be affecting your BSLs, yeah definately. Hopefully when you're feeling better they'll go back to what's normal for you.

As for the levels and when/if you need insulin, it's up to your doctors. With me as long as I had my levels between 4 - 7 before meals, and 4 - 8 2hrs after eating then he was happy. I guess you'd have to discuss it at your next appointment as I'm not sure if different doctors have different cut off points, you know. Sorry I can't help any.

Didi - that would be absolutely frustrating - however maybe its because you didn't have any carbs at all your body was looking for carbs - hence the high reading

I haven't been going too badly - up to 16 units overnight, which seems to be finally working, but now the after breakfast reading has gone hay wire

The other issue is that I am absolutely CRAVING chocolate at the moment - I haven't succumbed yet, but I really, really would like to. I think after being so good with mimimal difference I just want to be normal again. Doesn't help that the midwife is praising me for losing weight - yeah, cause thats whats's supposed to happen in pregnancy

    Well...

After being admitted last night for dehydration and 3 bags of fluid later, BH contractions... that happen when dehydrated.. But i have had normal levels since then and not thirsty.. so no idea.

I have a scan in a couple weeks.. see a doc again next week.

The specialist said that my levels look great and ignore that 1 high crazy one, said they will go up and up and up as my pregnancy progress's as hormones added in dont make things better and neither do stress.

I feel better after last night and today.. but goodness..

I am booked in for c-sec at 39 weeks.. even if bub keeps getting big.. as 38-39 weeks might mean special care nursery or not.. and i am hoping for not!

Hmm, melbel, I could go some dark chocolate right now! Lol

Didispunk, I'm glad that the endocrinologist is happy with your readings. That high one did seem a bit random. I'm sorry to hear you were admitted for dehydration. Glad to hear you're feeling better now.

Seachange, I think I'll probably lose a bit of weight this pregnancy too. I have not gained anything yet and now that I can't eat chocolate like I'd like to (yep I am a chocoholic and could easily polish off a whole block) I'll be surprised if I don't lose weight.

crysk, disregard everything I said about having custard before bed. My last 2 morning readings have been over 5.5 again And I've had a few daytime readings over 7 as well. I recon I'll be on insulin before too much longer

Does any one elses specialist test for ketones? My endocrinologist hasn't so far but when I saw the Ob last week he did a dip stick test which showed up positive for ketones. But I hadn't eaten for about 5 hours so hopefully that is the reason why and it's nothing to do with the diabetes

How do you feel when you have a blood sugar spike?

On a few occasions now I have eaten something and a little while later kinda feel light headed and weird. I'm suspecting it's my BSL's spiking too high that is making me feel this way. Tonight I made some supposed Low GI cookies, but an hour after eating a couple I just feel really weird. Does anyone else get this feeling?

What are your readings ment to be????

What is your doc happy with?

My levels now first thing in the morning right now are around 6 and Above... My endo said whatever your reading is in the morning you cant crontrol that is from hormones and that is when the baby reacts most to the sugars is the first reading in the morning.
