Congrats Kim I left a message on your BA when I saw it too, but I'm glad that everything is going well
I have my 6wk follow up GTT on wednesday - finally remembered to call up and book it in this afternoon along with my 6wk checkup, papsmear that is a month overdue and an appointment for Elise as I think she might have a bit of reflux as she's constantly chucking up and screams during and after feeds.
Not doing so well with getting her on the boob she still fights it a lot, and silly me forgot to pack the pump on tuesday when we went to the aquarium in melbourne, so I had to go nearly 9 hours without expressing and nw my supply has halved.
Oh well, glad that everyone is doing well, will keep checking back to see how everyone is going when I remember to (and get the time!)
Hi mel - sorry you are not borderline at all. Your fasting is ok but the 1hr and 2hr are way over what they want. The endo is the diabetes specialist. They will determine if you need to have insulin or not.
I have a question to
I am due for my 6 week checkup soon and was wondering if the next checkup for the diabetes is another 2 hour test???? Can anyone help me with this
afm - still don't know the results of my 6wk test, it's been 3 weeks now, as I have no idea where they were sent lol could be any one of 3 GPs or my OB, but I'm guessing no new is good news lol
Hi All, hope you don't mind me sticking my head and big belly in here. I completed my glucose challenge test last week, and results came back at 9.2. So I'm off next week to take the GTT and see what's going on...
Hi all,
Seems I might be joining in here for 10 weeks or so. I am 29 weeks now and found out at 28 weeks I have GD.
My levels for the 3 hour test were 4.1, 9.6, 8.4. I was highly stressed doing the test as they asked me about my previous pregnancy in a room with other patients and I had to tell them my 41 week bubba, Ellen, had died. I got upset and cried then got embarrassed to have done this in front of other people.
I have been eating HEAPS of carbs compared to usual and I'm FULL all the time! I have been playing about with different carbs and so far I get around 4.6 in the morning, around 4-5 after brekky, around 5 after lunch and about 6.4 after dinner.
I have tried bread, potatoes, pasta and tonight rice...........we'll see if I go high on rice I guess.
If any of you know do you reckon I'll be able to keep those numbers down with diet or am I likely to need insulin?
I feel totally ripped off about this as it's another stress to our already stressed pregnancy.
What happens if you skip snacks? Sometimes I am just not hungry so wondering if I could just have a cuppa?
Due to Ellen's passing at 41 weeks there was already a plan to induce this little squirt.......I guess that's a given now.
I'm up for ANY advice and support........please help!
Hi all, just popping my head in to see how people are going. I still haven't had my followup check done yet (oops) but my levels have been ok (still checking every now and then ) I'm not looking forward to waiting at pathology for 2 hours with a newborn oh well will try to get it done next week. Another fasting GTT yuck
Kate - your levels seem ok now. They are definitely in the right range so take a deep breath girl and stop stressing. Try not to skip snacks as they help keep your levels level iykwim lol. I would say that at this stage you are doing great with diet. Wait and see if you need insulin before worrying about the birth.
Kimbles - good luck hun but sounds like you will be in here too. There is usually heaps of support here so don't worry
Thanks KimB - nervous about tests tomorrow (mostly because I hate needles, and also am allergic to the glucose drink, so have to take antihistamines to balance it, which I'm not keen on).
I guess the upside is if I do have GD, from what I've read I won't be allowed to go past my due date? So at least then I don't have to worry about the possibility of going up to 10 days late...given I was 3 weeks late when I was born (back before the 10 day limit!) I think the waiting would drive me mad.
I also see it as a good chance to shake up my diet, which is not always the greatest, so then the hard work to shift weight after bubs is born hopefully won't be so difficult.
Thanks KimB,
I actually rang my Auntie last night who has been a diabetic nurse educator for about 15 years and she put my mind heaps to rest. She said the number they most worry about is the fasting one being high first thing in the am and only worry about high numbers if you can't find a reason.......ie I ate chocolate cake for dinner LOL.
I have been having errors with the monitor and she told me to re-test if things seem odd.
Feeling a whole lot better.
What are the chances of me not being able to control this with diet?
Thanks
Kate
HI girls,
How's it going? I have been messing about and have been keeping most of my fasting readings under 5 and brekky around 5 lunch around 5.5. I have discovered Gluten Free pasta sets my levels high :-( I got a 7.1 after dinner the other night. I have to make separate pasta for me and hubby now. We have been walking the dogs after dinner (which is really COLD!!! as we live near Canberra). This helps keep my evening numbers low.
Hopefully I can manage to avoid insulin for the next 7 weeks.
I have been adding up the days and weeks and ticking off the finger *****s.
How's it going for you Kimbles? Have you been finding the diet makes you waaay full?
I find I'm always super full after main meals, but I tend to get peckish in the hour before or after snacks. Still getting used to which snacks etc fill me up more effectively.
Slowly starting to get used to the finger pr*cks, but only 9 weeks max to go!
I've been controlling my GD with diet for the past few weeks which is going well, but on a couple of occassions I got a really high reading after breakfast (like a 8.4) when I'm eating practically the same thing every day...it had me baffled until I went to the GD clinic last week and they said you can grow more sensitive as pregnancy progresses. Thing is though, I've gone back to normal readings with only one high one (8.2 after breakky again) so now I'm confused. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hi Andi,
Sorry to hear you have GD but glad to hear you and managing with diet.
I have had a few"odd" readings and I rang them yesterday but the woman I spoke to didn't seem concerned.
I get slightly higher readings (like 6.7) after dinner in the evening but I reckon it's 'cause I sit on my butt in the evenings instead of moving about like I do during the day.
The weirdest ones I've been getting lately is like a 5.2 fasting then a 4.4 after brekky!
My auntie said sometimes the machines aren't very accurate so if you get a reading that's a surprise it's sometimes good to check the reading again. I have done this a couple of times if they seem a bit high or too low.
I am pretty annoyed that when I ring the endo dept at Canberra hospital they don't call back. Yesterday I waited for them to ring for 4 hours and being on a farm with no mobile access this meant I wa stuck in the house....grrrrrrr....... Then when they did finally call back they didn 't really care that I was concerned and wanted some guidance ........ggrrrrrrrr.......
Yeah I've redone some of them but they don't seem to change (maybe by .2 sometimes). It's all a little overwhelming isn't it? It's quite frustrating when you're out and your menu choices are quite limited...not only avoiding the pregnancy foods but also having to think about the GD too! I guess the one good thing about it all is that it reminds you to eat well!
Your fasting and after breakfast readings sound very odd. How far along are you? Not sure how often you're seeing your obs / clinic but I'm now at a week apart and I'm kind of starting to feel a little lost in between appt's as a week at this stage is quite a long time. Doesn't help if they're not calling back when you have questions! No-one's talked to me about the size of the baby yet...is that normal? I've got an appt on Thurs so I'll definitely be asking then...
I just got a reading of 6.9 after brekky today so I rang hubby and he suggested doing it again.....5.4 .......aarrggghhh!!!
I just see a midwife and I don't seem to be in a GD clinic or anything. I have had ultrasounds but nothing much has been said about baby size. I am 33 weeks this week.
I feel kinda like they've said "here's this serious thing you have to manage really carefully but you are on your so own please don't bother us"
My last baby, Ellen, was born still at 41 weeks so I am very very stressed about anything going wrong this time. Not that I don't think people who haven't had a loss aren't stressed over GD but this adds extra pressure for me.
I rang them again today as I have to go back to the hospital today for another appointment and they said call in and they'll check my machine.
We don't eat out much 'cause of where we live and also 'cause my hubby needs gluten free food but it is tricky to avoid listeria and manage GD.
Have you gained/lost weight?
I have lost about 3 kgs but noone seems to think that is a problem either.......
