Presents for teachers!

I am finding this hard because I don't think DS's teacher did a very good job this year. For Easter DS gave her an Easter egg. Her response "I'm allergic." Not even a thank you. I really don't want to give her anything! Do teachers really notice if a child in the class doesn't give a gift?

His teacher last year I gave a wooden Christmas decoration that said"peace." Fitting for a catholic school.

I had 3 teachers that were awesome, and one that was quite bad. I wasn't brave enough not to get her something, but noticed that DD put much less effort in to her present anyway.

Dd1 gave her teacher a gift and she opened it, looked through it pointed out bits she liked gave dd a cuddle etched etc.

Dd2 gave her teacher the very same gift she said thanks but didn't even bother to open it and that was that.

This highlights the difference between the teachers that I have noticed all year.

Still I felt obliged to give the sucky teacher a gift anyways. But I don't think a teacher would notice if not given a gift as it's really a bonus not a given. Maybe just do a card for the not so good teacher.

We did reindeer noses in a red spotty mug and a teachers survival kit with chocolates and other bits and pieces in it.

When I was a kid I think I remember there was the odd child who gave the teacher a gift but it certainly wasn't as popular as these days.

We are also going to do TEAR with the grandchildren. I am going to let them pick out what they want to give. I can see some chickens being included but will be interested in what else they choose.

Do you know what? No. I don't think you should bother. I think most teachers do an awesome job and should be rewarded more, but they earn love and respect and if she hasn't then I don't think you should have to show her a token of that. And, if she's going to tot up who she gets gifts from and who she doesn't then she's nothing more than an undeserving spoiled child anyway.

I know everyone says no more choccie, but our teachers love it and all have lots of children so I am doing little terracotta pots painted to look like apples with M&M's inside and a neat little poem about the colours. The kids will hide a little note/picture inside.

Last year I ordered handtowels with an embroidered phrase about teachers on them that were well received.

Dd1s teacher loved her personalised mug. She said all the other teachers had a personalised mug but she didnt so was really happy. She just got married so her name changed lol

This year I'm going to be making up cookie jars with cookies and a tag that says "thanks for making me a smart cookie". I've also got thank you cards that DS will write in. Haven't even started yet and this is the last week so best get on to it!

We're probably too slow off the mark this year, but another way to personalize gifts for a teacher is to get those fabric textas, and get the kid to draw/write on a plain white teatowel or apron. This is a lovely gift for other special people like grandparents & favorite aunties/uncles too. (Also an awesome gift ideas for kids/tweens - a pair of white volleys, a packet of fabric textas & some coloured laces)!

As a teacher, I never expected a gift...it was a bonus. Any teacher that 'expects' a gift probably doesn't deserve one! I always opened it in front of the child, and if I couldn't do it straight away I'd do it in class and call the child over to watch and so I could say thanks.

I've had a few shockers...mouldy chocolates, opened/used toiletries and $2 shop choccies that tasted horrendous, but I've also been given gifts by kids who's parents didn't help/want/have any money to get anything. One I remember was a dirty old soft toy (obviously a favourite) when I was going on maternity leave. The child was so pleased they'd gotten me a gift for my baby...I bawled my eyes out in front of them!!

'Smart cookies' idea is great - might have to borrow that one I considered doing glass jars of layered bikkie ingredients with a tag for how to make them, jam or little cross stitch pics with a teacher-related saying, but ran out of time/energy/motivation!

DD1 is doing canvas paintings for her kindy teachers. I had all sorts of ideas but in the end, it was what she asked to do so I thought that made it the perfect gift. Then I've written a personal letter of thanks and helped DD1 write one, including her favourite memories and things she has learnt through the year.

We're giving the teacher a bottle of wine and there is a collection at the front desk towards a massage voucher for the two kindy teachers which we will contribute to. Tonight's task is to write a thoughtful card.

I ended up 'gifting' DS's teacher education to a third world country through TEAR.

Not sure what she thought of it, but DS was very excited to give it to her.

Our teachers loved their Smith Family Joy Spreaders! We helped a child with a reading buddy for 12 months plus provided a Christmas present to a child in need

I remember one year the teacher had multiple students give him a huge thing of licorice.

He spent a lot of time in the toilet that week.

I found a girl at the local farmers market who makes candles in these beautiful Turkish jars, so we got together and messed around with different scents until we had a christmassy one and then I ordered a bunch of them so that's what everyone is getting this year.
Next year I think I'll go back to making Christmas potpourri. I would have done it this year, but dp said "you can't do the same thing again". Turns out I could have, because just recently a few people have said how much they loved them last year. Would have been cheaper, too.
Ah well. The candles are lovely.
Really like the tea towel idea, too.

Our teacher is going on maternity leave so dd1 has made a beautiful photo frame as I know she has been given lots of toys and blankets already! As a thank you we have got some yummy apple cookies made by a bb member!
