So thought I would pop in hear and say there's a good chance I will be trying for a home birth in April of next year.. am waiting to hear back from the home birth unit at the local hospital with actual conformation as the head midwife is pushing my case with the registrar in charge but she seemed positive that I could and well she is trying to make the registrar see that it would be in everyone's best interests if we were prepared for one medically due the a 35min labour with my last baby.. the only downfall i Have against me is the fact that i got high BP at 38 weeks with all 3 pgs. She did say though being that this is different father it could mean no high BP...

so I guess its a waiting game til i get approval...

We are lucky in SA to have a fully funded public homebirth clinic.. but it does come with strict acceptance.

I have had 3 natural births but two were induced. With one birth i did have pethadine but that is the only drugs in all three. and I never had any bleeding issues or along those lines so the midwives think I would be perfect for them only th high BP is playing a issue

Im honestly still unsure about it.. because well its very nerve wracking and this is DH first baby but with the quick labours I think even if i decide to hospital birth (which the clinic are also fine with) they will still prep my house medically with sterile equipment JIC which is what I am looking for really

Beatrix that's great if you can get on the program! I can't imagine having to go to hospital with a quick labour like yours... I honestly wouldn't have gone with dd2 even if we hadn't planned a hb! Would you look at an IM if the hospital won't take u on?? My sis had high ho with her first 2 pg and this pg completely normal if not a little low so really past experience is only an indicator not a diagnosis & any good mw would monitor & transfer if necessary. Hope u get some good news from the hosp soon

Hi Beatrix and welcome! I have everything crossed that you get into the program

It would appear that now Jan Ireland is being investigated (despite the fact that the machines to resus at the hospital broke at a critical time...it's obviously all her fault...love the media reporting...).

i just love how the OB said, "she wouldnt let me do what i wanted to do". shouldnt that read: "what i needed to do" if he wanted a legitimate claim of obstruction resulting in dire consequence?

Dr Kuswanto said he remembered there was difficulty obtaining Kate's consent to an episiotomy (a surgical cut to the perineum with scissors or scalpel to make the baby's birth easier).

"Usually, when I explain to a woman that an episiotomy is necessary, the woman's consent is forthcoming.

"However, in this scenario words were said to the effect that 'I don't want an episiotomy .

"The feeling was that I could not do what I wanted to do."

Dont you hate how they outline everything about the Homebirth but there is no explanation of what 'equipment' failed!!!!

Such a sad story anyway you look at it

Just jumping in here about the witch hunt against Jan and Fiona. Apparently it was established in court today that Jan wasn't even in the room when the events happened that someone later complained about. She was moving the car. A bit hard to stand in front of the CTG monitor when you're driving! i can't believe they are doing this. The doctor wasn't even present, so how would he know?

But let's not let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Welcome Beatrix, I hope you get approval!

Just ordered a copy of the Face of Birth dvd Also, posted the Youtube link for Business of Being Born on my facebook the other day, then my Mum told me last night that she watched it all and can now see why I want a homebirth! Yay, so proud of my mum for watching it without me even asking her to, and then to come out and say that

L&B: maybe Jan's developed the awesome skill of being in two places at the same time hahaha. I feel really sorry for her that her name is being trashed so openly and erroneously in the media. Defamation much?

Ree: how awesome is BOBB?! i want to see Face of Birth (missed the screenings!) and you have reminded me...thanks!

My Mum was at my HB, Ree, so she can't deny how wonderful it was. And now both of my sisters have had disastrous hospital births.

What I really hate is that mothers and ppl in general talk about the lifesaving rescue by the hospital and drs from the emergency that their birth becomes. But nobody makes the connection that the emergency itself was caused by the hospital and drs in the first place!

Hi everyone . Welcome to reeree, and aims and I suspect I have missed someone, but I plead exhaustion!

What crap reporting! Obviously jan was in two places at the same time cos she is a witch! Maybe if we tie bricks to her and throw her into a lake we can tell she is innocent if she dies. My god they are still so short sighted!

In answer ro an earlier Q. We had an IM, doula for my dd,(another hb mamma who spelled DH when necessary) DH and a photographer. I wouldn't have had a photographer if it wasn't for the fact that she gets it. She really does get it. She an I have chatted birth for hrs and I knew she wouldn't interfer or inhibit me. I had planned ro have a doula as well for me, but just didn't call her in the end. I just wanted less people there. I feel like I only had people there who were necessary and needed. My middy called my DH, "doula darren" after cos he played that role, much to our surprise since he originally was supposed to stay outta the way and let my women care for me, but I wanted him and that was that
