Cricket, I got my midwives a Keep Calm and Call the Midwife mug. They loved them! From memory, postage and all was under $30 for two. I got them on eBay and they came out from the UK.
Has anyone had constant bladder bouncing babies? This one is the worst, for the last few days he has just been constantly bouncing on it and it sends a searing pain down in that area - I hate it. Its like he bounces himself off to sleep that way but I'm getting so sick of it and want to know how to stop him!
Arimeh - is that a head bouncing? Hiccups by the bladder maybe? Hiccups are much more enjoyable when baby's on the outside!
Thanks for all the gift suggestions. I was looking at the mugs, and thinking they would be a nice idea. There are also some pretty mama/baby pendants (some with miniatures of art prints) on etsy that I thought were good, but jewelry is such a personal thing - everyone's taste is different! I wondered otherwise about a gift basket for everyone to share at the office - there are five midwives in the practice, and I saw four of them, and the fifth is one I've had before.... I'd better commit to something soon though or I'm going to end up with nothing like last time! (I had a good excuse that time though - I was going to go get a gift certificate before my appointment, but I ended up locking DD in the car at my sisters house, in the heat of summer. Thankfully my BIL was able to get a window open and we got her out in a short time.)
And here's my embarrassing story for the week:
Yesterday I was busy with laundry and housecleaning as usual. Just finished my postnatal exercise DVD, and was looking a little disheveled, in yoga pants and sweatshirt, hair in a pony tail that hasn't been brushed.... You get the idea. Grabbed a load of laundry from the washer to take out to the line, and threw the next load in. Whites.
Hey, my bra really needs to be washed.
But you NEVER go without your bra. Not even to bed.
But I'm starting the load now - I'll just whip it off and throw it in.
But you're going outside.
So what? No one ever comes over. I'll be outside in our own private back yard for 5 min. I have a loose sweatshirt on. It will be fine.
So the bra goes in the washer and the load gets started. Head out the back door in my pants and sweatshirt. Milk lets down. Oh crap. Oh well - it's just five minutes, no one is around anyways, and as soon as I'm done, I'm getting in the shower. Hanging laundry fast as I can....
And a car pulls up. What?! Why would a car be parking by my house? Must be for the neighbours. Hang laundry faster....
An older gentleman gets out... Uh oh. And comes over.... (no! why?!) and asks about the minor variance on the building permit that DH is applying for... and makes pleasant conversation for a while... (drip, drip, drip....) and then finally heads back to his car and I can escape.
Honestly - no one EVER comes to my house. Except the Jehovah's Witnesses. I like it that way. But I guess if I want more visitors, I just have to take my bra off more often....
ETA: Also, the minor variance was approved, and DH got a good laugh out of the story. He was asking me who came to the house, (Did he say his name was Bob? Or Bill? What did he look like?) and I was like I HAVE NO IDEA! I was a little distracted and not paying a whole lot of attention to what name the guy gave or what he looked like. I was just trying to stand all casual and slightly hunched over, hanging laundry like everything was cool....

All of my midwife appointments were at my home, but I know of a few others who had most of their appointments in an office.
The_Mrs-I had a homebirth not at my home because of location etc. I would definitely go down this path again if it meant I could have a homebirth. Good luck on finding the right answer.
