Has anyone had constant bladder bouncing babies? This one is the worst, for the last few days he has just been constantly bouncing on it and it sends a searing pain down in that area - I hate it. Its like he bounces himself off to sleep that way but I'm getting so sick of it and want to know how to stop him!

Aaaahhhhhh look how far up the list I am now Six before me, seven after Starting to feel a little more real now, seeing that!

12 hours and counting until my appointment, fingers crossed it's actually with one of my midwives this time! The last two have been with back-ups... I'm flexible, but I really do prefer the people I've chosen to care for me

Hey hoti, I think I slipped off

And tenibear, btw, you name auto corrects to "the obese" on my phone, lol, so if you ever see that I swear I didn't mean it!!! I would really not enjoy not having my Mw at appointments. Just would wind me up a little. But I guess it would depend on how far along I was. And why she couldn't come.

Nausea is def kicking my arse! Oh well, reassures me somehow, but I think I will go and get an early scan, cos worrying wont be any better for this baby than an u/s putting my mind at ease.

    Welcome Lady-bug!

Arimeh - is that a head bouncing? Hiccups by the bladder maybe? Hiccups are much more enjoyable when baby's on the outside!

Thanks for all the gift suggestions. I was looking at the mugs, and thinking they would be a nice idea. There are also some pretty mama/baby pendants (some with miniatures of art prints) on etsy that I thought were good, but jewelry is such a personal thing - everyone's taste is different! I wondered otherwise about a gift basket for everyone to share at the office - there are five midwives in the practice, and I saw four of them, and the fifth is one I've had before.... I'd better commit to something soon though or I'm going to end up with nothing like last time! (I had a good excuse that time though - I was going to go get a gift certificate before my appointment, but I ended up locking DD in the car at my sisters house, in the heat of summer. Thankfully my BIL was able to get a window open and we got her out in a short time.)

And here's my embarrassing story for the week:
Yesterday I was busy with laundry and housecleaning as usual. Just finished my postnatal exercise DVD, and was looking a little disheveled, in yoga pants and sweatshirt, hair in a pony tail that hasn't been brushed.... You get the idea. Grabbed a load of laundry from the washer to take out to the line, and threw the next load in. Whites.
Hey, my bra really needs to be washed.
But you NEVER go without your bra. Not even to bed.
But I'm starting the load now - I'll just whip it off and throw it in.
    But you're going outside.
So what? No one ever comes over. I'll be outside in our own private back yard for 5 min. I have a loose sweatshirt on. It will be fine.
So the bra goes in the washer and the load gets started. Head out the back door in my pants and sweatshirt. Milk lets down. Oh crap. Oh well - it's just five minutes, no one is around anyways, and as soon as I'm done, I'm getting in the shower. Hanging laundry fast as I can....
And a car pulls up. What?! Why would a car be parking by my house? Must be for the neighbours. Hang laundry faster....
An older gentleman gets out... Uh oh. And comes over.... (no! why?!) and asks about the minor variance on the building permit that DH is applying for... and makes pleasant conversation for a while... (drip, drip, drip....) and then finally heads back to his car and I can escape.

Honestly - no one EVER comes to my house. Except the Jehovah's Witnesses. I like it that way. But I guess if I want more visitors, I just have to take my bra off more often....

ETA: Also, the minor variance was approved, and DH got a good laugh out of the story. He was asking me who came to the house, (Did he say his name was Bob? Or Bill? What did he look like?) and I was like I HAVE NO IDEA! I was a little distracted and not paying a whole lot of attention to what name the guy gave or what he looked like. I was just trying to stand all casual and slightly hunched over, hanging laundry like everything was cool....

You'll never guess what text message I just woke up to - my midwives have been called out to another birth again! I've just sent back "I must be a birthing good luck charm for other women" I'm not upset, I'm actually really amused by it. Well, okay, last time I was a little upset, but only because they were apparently with a very sick baby and that was very sad. This time it's just funny!

can you change your appt to when you can see your midwife? that would annoy me if it kept happening. how many women does each midwife care for?

    sorry, Bella. fixed now.

They've said they'll make it up to me by having an at-home visit in a few days, so that's alright Of course I'm a bit annoyed, but it's luck of the draw with IMs - if I were the woman in labour I'd much prefer the midwife prioritised me over a "just checking in" appointment. And at least now I don't have to get up and dressed just yet, I was starting to regret making an early-morning appointment. Though now I'm going to have to clean up my manky house a bit for when they come here

I've had to change my appt because my m/w was at a birth, but only once. I generally understand, one day that's probably going to be me (although I have the consideration to give birth when they really don't have many other clients!).

I've never seen another m/w instead of mine though. We just work around each other.

Yeah, i had to change a few appts when things came up for my midwife, completely understand that happens. I just would be upset at seeing another midwife 3 appts in a row.

Has anyone else noticed a shift from midwives doing majority (or all) home visits to more midwives having an office and only doing home visits towards the end of pregnancy? My midwife doesn't, but i am hearing about it more and more.

I could use some helpful tips/info on giving birth vaginally with a breech baby. We still have time but I am getting everything prepared in case this baby is breech like her sister. Washington is a no-go when it come to vaginal breech births but Oregon is okay with it. I found a lovely midwife center that said if this baby was breech they think (if everything was great) they would feel comfortable delivering my baby at my aunts house in Portland (has to be in IN Oregon). My aunt is all for this but the rest of my family is not supportive. They think I am being crazy and don't understand why I would go through this hassle (its 1 1/2 hours away) instead of just having a RCS. My mom thinks giving birth to a breech baby vaginally is a death sentence and even asked me if I would go to jail if the baby died This is my last baby and I just want to fight for the birth I want! This midwives in Portland are WELL known and have done TONS of breech deliveries. I am starting to doubt myself now that death has been brought into it. Im still holding out that this baby is head down so we can have our home birth

The first time it happened, I think it was that they'd only just been called away - I can't remember. Second time, they called me and gave me the option to either reschedule or see the other midwife. I took the second option because I wanted to see someone. This time I'm not seeing anyone else, as I said they're making it up to me with a home visit

I really do think it's just bad luck. As far as I can tell they're not overbooking, I just happen to make appointments on days they're going to be at births. I shouldn't have said anything, it's like I'm complaining but I just thought it was amusing.

Well, you can look at Spinning Babies for tips on helping your baby get/stay head down, and you can see a chiropractor to help your baby move as well. The only thing I found about Spinning Babies was that I started to get a little TOO stressed about having my baby in the optimal position, and imagining all sorts of horrors if he wasn't. This baby was delivered ROA (instead of the "optimal" LOA) and it went perfectly. Then, I'd suggest you talk to your midwives about it. Maybe ask for an extra-long appointment so you can have a thorough discussion, and bring a good list of questions.
Finally, DON'T LISTEN TO YOUR FAMILY! They haven't done the reading and the research. They've watched ER one too many times, where everything is dramatic and life or death. Learn as much as you can, and make sure you have caregivers you trust taking care of you and baby. Then you know that you will be able to make good decisions together when the time comes.

Yep HotI this describes my MW, I think though its due to the increasing popularity of having a private midwife. I did hear her mention once that some people prefer to be seen in there office as it seems more professional-and that's generally for the women that still want to birth in hospital. I did much prefer home visits myself as it makes it feel more special, that and I didn't have to pack the kids up. It also allows her to see more women as she doesn't have to factor in the travel time.

My midwives came to me 9/10 times.

I had one app at her office because it was a busy time and easier for her and one app at the hospital so hubby could have a mini tour just in case we ended up transferring.

Was so much easier for them to come to me from my point of view and I don't think they minded. They both had brand new government cars too so car, petrol and mait of that wasn't their issue either so prob helped

My midwife makes a new appt if she's at a labour, I've had all my appts with her. But yes she doesn't tend to do home visits at all. But she is doing them for me now, seeing as I was having pain sitting in car too long with bad pelvis and bh.
