Oh SJ! things are all falling into place for you and the upcoming birth! YAY!
Oz: oh wow! third trimester already?! I swear with each pregnancy the time seems to fly even faster! so so excited for you. How are the HB preparations going? are you using a pool? set up a birth space or thought about where you would like to do most of your labouring? I had a few zones set out for me...from early labour (the is it or isnt it stage lol...so garden, dining room...which had the fitball and some affirmations of releasing oneself to the process and welcoming the new baby and lettng all worry out etc) and then the Real Deal space, with the low lighting, pool, oils and bag of tricks set aside.
one of my fave bits of preparation for the birth was heading into teh chemist and buying packets of those incontinence sheets and giant bags of those glucose jellybeans and gloves hahaha. the looks you would get
The preparations of the little, fiddly bits are the funnest! We have the birth pool and a change table more or less set up, so now it's down to fine details. I've been doing my aromatherapies today for my birthing basket - perineum spray, a facial mist for birth and post-partum spraying, a birthing and post-partum massage oil (I doubt I'll want to be touched in labour, so it has geranium to help contract the uterus afterwards), I've made up my first bottle of perineum water (water with some lavender drops and solubuliser in a pour-lid Tupperware container) for after-loo use, and my spray bottle is ready to go to spray maternity pads. Of course, I need to BUY the maternity pads so that I can spray them and freeze in separate zip-lock bags. This is a conundrum for me. I have been happily using a Mooncup for a few years now and the idea of using a throw-away product is giving me angst. I'm not really going to be in a place where I want to hang over the laundry sink (with it's ridiculously short tap) washing out cloth pads or face washers, and I hate the idea of throwing out paper and plastic products! I think I'm going to have to suck it up and buy some :/
I've been to see the hospy midwife today with DP and it was really positive. She's measured growth in fundal height, too, so we're all on the same page. Between her and my mw I saw fit to make one more u/s appt for the GP's benefit (and I think also my mw, but she won't spell it out, bless!) and that's for the end of next week. I'll see the GP again after that, if I'm still preggers and ask her for a Panadeine Forte script (I'm dreading after-pains!) and see if she'll be kind enough to give me a synto script while she's at it...that'll be pushing my luck, but I can try!
Meanwhile, I have also got clasps and string for my birthing beads (a bracelet and necklace), and binding for my flags (I'm getting another one or two in the post, I think...). One of my friends said she patched her flags together afterwards into a banner blanky thing she keeps over her son's door, so I won't do a fancy stitch because I like that idea!
I put the cradle together, not that I think I'll use it much, but it's there now, especially if we can't get a spring for the hammock (which will make me cry, because that hammock was a life saver the last time!). DP has to pick up a bookcase for me so that I can fold clothes into it, or I'll have to resort to cardboard boxes, in lieu of appropriate furniture to hold clothes in...that's the least organised part of this caper, but it's out of my hands!
Jellybeans...now THAT'S the ticket!!!
