Hah, like babies put their feet on foot rests anyway. We have an Ikea chair with no tray we'd just shove up against the table - it slid under the table edge perfectly - and she'd get her feet on the supporting edge thingies of the table and push the chair away, which was apparently great fun.

And then complain the food was too far away to reach

Now the high chair is Not Acceptable and she has to have a big chair, so she wasn't even in the high chair very long. She has to have big people plates and cutlery too, none of this specialised ergonomic baby cutlery. Remember a lot of baby stuff out there exists to line manufacturer's pockets.
