    Confused by FS

Okay. Today I had an appointment with my FS who said something which confused me. Previously she has said that my failed IVF attempts are likely due to egg quality (age related). Today, she went over some recent blood test results and my FSH was 2.5. My AMH is about 17. Great numbers on paper but I respond poorly to stimming. I mentioned this to her and she said the FSH is an indication of the quality of eggs....what the???!!!! I have not heard this before and why, if I have such good quality eggs, do I have such bad quality eggs??? Iykwim!!!!

    Confused??!!!!

I agree with MN, give her a call if you can.

Doesn't make much sense to me either.

    Do you have PCOS ?

Women with higher AMH tend to have a better response to stims, and have more eggs retrieved.

Analagy (which I am sure you know) : FSH is like an exelorater pedal in a car, if your body thinks your running outa eggs, it puts the pedal down, and creates more FSH, to create more eggs. You know we are only as good as our worst FSH test.

The results and her conclusions seem a little odd, can you ring her and re discuss

With the stuff you're taking could your egg quality be improving and thats what she meant?

    Thanks for your answers everyone

I do have pcos and adenomyosis. My worst FSH was a year ago and it was 5.5.

Im not a FS however I think the pcos is causing the high AMH . Though AMH levels probably do not reflect egg quality

If I was confused by my FS's response I would be faxing a letter if you dont feel comfy ringing

Oh it's so hard isn't it, when we leave a visit scratching our heads ....

    I know. I wasn't really scratching it until I left...typical!

I wondered about that. Who knows...? I am starting to think maybe I should get a second opinion?

My fertilization rates are pretty good.
First round one out of two fertilised.
Second round two out of three.
Third round one out of one.

All other levels are good. No chromosomal issues. Just old and fat

oh hun not old and fat just in an unlucky situation. FWIW I was 21 when we started IVF and had pretty good fertilisation rates but no baby, so age isnt always the factor. It sux, plain old sux! Im sorry that you have to endure this but dont give up hope. Miracles do happen

    N2l,
Did you end up making contact with your FS??
I don't think getting a 2nd opinion would hurt. Have you thought about using DHEA?? I believe after getting nothing the 1st cycle to getting a BFP this cycle it was the difference. Just a thought.
Believe in your dream, keep smiling & all the best for your next cycle.

N2L how did you go with talking to your FS.

Have friend at present whose numbers are the other way round. High FSH and low AMH so subscribing also to see if I can pick up advice for her.

Only thing that concerns me is that your FS isn't someone that you can call so think 2nd opinion might be a good option. The FSs play such an important part in the IVF journey that I think its vital that we can ask as many questions as we need to understand whats going on. Its stressful enough without playing blind!

Just my opinion but hope it helps. Best of luck.
