and I would like to add- I also think IVF clinics should screen us at the start for more things!! DH and I sure wish I had been diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome sooner! i would be pregnant now if so..anyway, at least we know now
so definately always ask for tests if you are concerned!
I had 18 vials in one hit, and it did hurt a bit, but certainly wasn't a big deal.

This def is a great thread... it's amazing how all FSs seem to do such different things. We started on our IVF roller coaster at the beginning of 2006. We've had an unsuccessfull IUI, fresh transfer & 2 frozen transfers... all of which was done at a clinic in Canberra. I have had numerous tests, but all showing no abnormalities. We have had quite a big break, but after recently moving to Adelaide, decided we were feeling ready to give it another go so have joined up with a clinic here. Lucky enough to have 5 frozen embies left, they 'couriered' those over last week... successfully thank goodness! Anyway, this new clinic said that because I have already had a number of unsuccessful transfers, I should have an "Endometrial boipsy to check for immuno response of my endometrium". It was very similar to a pap smear so pretty simple in the scheme of things. I am really confused and frustrated as to why this test wasn't done soooooo much earlier (not like they haven't been 'up there' a million times already!).
Anyway, the results have come back positive to some abnormalities, which thankfully can be treated with some antibiotics & steriods (all in tablet form) and can be done at the same time as going through a natural frozen transfer cycle.
As written by some of you who posted before me, why not do all these types of tests straight up, that way treatment (if possible) can occur and hopefully the drawn out & emotional processes we are all going through can be possibly made much shorter.
In saying that I am now glad that there is actually something identified so that we can now do what is hopefully needed to fix it and hopefully get a positive result in a few weeks time.
Sorry about that... didn't mean to write a book, just started writing and kept going & going. Not sure if this is the same test as already mentioned, but if not, I hope I have helped in some way.
Jozza- good luck! I am glad they found something which can be treated. And I totally relate to that idea, of why weren't you checked for this earlier?! At least, like us, you now have more answers to go forward to a BFP hopefully very soon. It's good you have those frosties ready to go
Jozza, thanks for dropping that information, I certainly will check with my FS...same with the other ladies and think why we need to go through so many failed cycles and asked these tests ourselves rather than as a routain check up to increase the success rate? I feel more and more cynical about IVF professionals now...just like my APist, she just doesn't think they have the best interest in their patients!
A question, I am going to see my FS on 23 April and it will be in the middle of my cycle, are those tests need to be done at certain time of the cycle or anytime? 18 virals of blood, oh my goodness, I am so not looking forward to that! But I will bite the bullet. This recent Antagonist cycle just failed to implant again, so I had enough.
Cuddlepie - I can help you with the date of the NK cell biopsy from the endometrium (you may know a high level can cause recurrent implantation failure). In the SIVF MC investigation program it is performed on approx. Day 26 of a 28 day cycle. But they will want to confirm O by tracking it with BT's so they can pinpoint the ideal biopsy date. Can be tricky coming off an IVF cycle as it can delay AF, so the test may not be performed at the right time (apparently they want to do it as late as possible in a cycle, but without the lining beginning to shed). WLAB, how is your test result?
I have also booked an appt with Dr. Gavin Sacks on 28th April, just want to have a second opinion. Now I am not sure whether I should ask all these tests done when seeing my FS or Dr.S? I guess it doesn't matter where I get these done is that right? I want to stick with my FS for IVF cycles but just want to see if another pair of fresh eyes can pick up sth missing in the past. What do you think girls?
CP- well, I dont think it matters going to another Dr, and having that fresh pair of eyes...I am sure all the results will be passed on to your FS anyway. It might be good to have a new perspective.
In my case, I saw my OB, in my hometown, who said not to bother with any further tests. Then I spoke to my IVF clinic and they suggested a FS in newcastle (not even my regular FS with the clinic in Newcastle) who specialises more in recurrent miscarriage etc and I went to see her, and get the tests done/ results etc. And I am glad I did that. I have now decided to stick with her as my FS. So I guess what I am saying is, sometimes more opinions is a good thing. I even talked to yet another FS with the clinic about my situation on the phone, and got yet another perspective on things. good luck with it
