Yes and no for me. Family dynamics have changed to the extent that they can only shop on weekends because they are working all week and some people don't want to finish work only to then go shopping so they are accomodating a need to stay open so those that do work or dont have time through the week can shop - same with places that stay open late accomodate shift workers. When I go out of town over the weekend sometimes, there are so many families that are out shopping together, so I suppose they are swapping family time at sporting events for shopping kwim?

Plus the business that keep the same trading hours 7 days a week might have rotating rosters too so that they might have different weekend staff.

Our here in the sticks though weekend trading is limited to cafes, pubs/clubs, corner stores etc after 1pm on a Saturday. Even the supermarket only started Sunday trading a few years ago (but the owners really are doing it for greed LOL). The downside of that a few years ago when the town had an industrial boom of sorts, the hours were very long and the workers didn't finish till well after the businesses closed and had nowhere to shop even if they needed the bare necessities.

The one things that really annoys me is that the whole country shuts down on Christmas Day, but can't do the same for ANZAC day - there is something so wrong in that if you ask me.
