cyst on my ovary - please help - upset here.

hi there everyone,
only a few weeks ago I went in for 'investigations' and they found nothing. Now, as I went for my scan during before starting injections for Stim cylce, they find a fairly big cyst on one my ovaries.

I am scared and upset. Never had this before. Nurse took a blood test and has called to say my oestergen Levels are low at 95, which appartently is good as means cyst is not producing horomones. But before I start stim injections, this cyst has to reduce itself so I will be going for another scan on MOnday.

I was told this is fairly common and many who get a cyst just have a delay in the whole process - at the moment I just have to continue on with the Synarel Nasel Spray.

Any one else out there had a similar experience?
I am now of course worried that the whole thing will be cancelled and i have to have more surgery...

No need to worry too much - this can be a fairly usual thing

I wanted to do back to back cycles between my 3rd and 4th stim cycles, and the same thing happened to me - so I just had to keep doing the spray until the cyst settled down.
It went away completely after about a month and everything was fine to go ahead - It made no difference - except for more waiting - to my next cycle at all - in fact, it was our best cycle yet

If they've checked and its not producing any hormones, then thats great - it won't effect your cycle and you won't need another op or anything like that - just have to hang around and wait until it either settles down or goes away.

Very annoying, though - just another hurdle in the big journey, hey?

thanks so much Holly for your quick reply..........i have been googling madly to find out if 95 is a low level of oestrogen - I know the nurse said it was, but I just need to know myself.

Don't mind waiting if that is all I have to do, my fear is much worse. I suppose I should check if I continue the same dosage for the Synarel...I assume so, she did not say otherwise.

I had a similar experience with my first stim cycle, but mine was a hormone-producing cyst, possibly even an egg follicle (I appear to have a demented reproductive system that can't ovulate on clomid but can on synarel). My clinic gave me a trigger shot to make it go away, which it did, and we were eventually able to continue the cycle after only a short delay.

You'll probably find that your clinic is used to getting phone calls from freaked out women (I know mine sure is!), so don't be afraid to call them and ask more questions. It's what we pay them the big money for!

runnermum - my last FET cycle they located what appeared to be a cyst, but said it made no difference to the FET at all - infact, i won't find out til next week if it's even gone away! i'm guessing they just want it to reduce for you so that it doesn't have an impact on follicular development - a large-ish cyst can take up a fair surface area on your ovary and reduce the functional portion for building up nice fat egg-producing follies! it might mean a delay, but a delay is certainly preferable to a sub-standard result - especially as a cyst would appear the same on u/s as a follicle, and it would be difficult to differentiate between the two to know how your body is responding

as has been mentioned already, if you're concerned about any of your results, call the clinic. us girls can be a wealth of knowledge, and are here to support you all the time, but it's understandable that sometimes you just want a medico to say "here's the deal"

I am going in for a scan Monday morning......fingers crossed it will just be a delay in the Stim cycle.

it is 4cms by 3cms however, which seems large to me! there was NOTHING there 5 weeks ago after my minor operation and now WHAM..

This IVF journey sure is a long one for some of us, hey?

I am getting my cyst 'drained' tomorrow. Looks like just a delay in the Stim cycle, but now i am concerned about money (aren't we all?). another procedure means more costs... but if it all works out in the end I know it will be worth it.

Anyone had a cyst drained before? Will they do it through key hole surgery?

i'd be interested in finding out what happens too runnermum - i'm off to the GP today to investigate the "maybe cyst" i have as i'm now in a significant amount of pain from it. i'm supposed to have FET next week, but, like you, i'm more than prepared to take a delay if it means a better outcome. it's too ouchy to put up with for a full pregnancy!
