1 more please - you can use frozen sperm with IVF, I have a friend that did and they fell pg on a FET cycle, I think the first fresh cycle maybe didn't work...

But if your DH doesn't have MFI and he is able to give a fresh sample - is there a reason why you would not use a fresh sample? I know some DH's travel for work etc, so having a frozen sample means they will not missnthe cycle if he is away..

From your last response, you mentioned that the main factors you had on your mind were your age and your weight? Given that you have decided (I hope I don't get this wrong as I'm operating from memory and can't jump back to look at your previous post as the this is a new thread) to walk away if it doesn't work based on your age... I have to say that if I was in your situation, I think I would go the IVF route. I say this for a couple Of reasons....

Firstly, its hard to know how many eggies you'll get as you haven't done an IVF cycle before, but I would be thinking that hopefully you'll get more than one (just like your handle on here sort of ) - I developed OHSS on the one egg retrieval cycle I did, but I got 17 eggs, 12 of which became fertilized and frozen embryo's (day 3).

The benefit of IVF for you, may be that you could freeze some eggs/ embryo's so hopefully you would have more than one opportunity for transfer out of your IVF cycle? I know this sometimes doesn't happen, and ladies only get one embryo suitable for transfer (butnhey it only takes one, right). Unexplained infertility couples generally have pretty good success with IVF, eg if there is no problem with DH's sperm (although its hard and frustrating that science still cant test egg quality)!

If you went the IVF path then there' a pretty good chance you would get more than one transfer out of it? So it's hard to compare between 6 IUI cycles - if you do IUI it may not take that many, or it could take more? At least if you go the IVF path then you can sort of rule out the age factor as you will hopefully get eggs/ embies to freeze? This would buy you some time... If you go the IUI path, and your age is a concern to you, then you won't have any frozen eggs/ embies?

Such a hard decision! But I think positively said that she had done 3'iui's that didn't work.... I don't know, maybe it's because I have had such good luck with IVF - if you have tried the iui's but you haven't yet tried IVF - I reckon I would be giving the IVF a go? There is so much more they can do with the IVF drugs etc - to stimulate you to get good egg retrieval etc (assuming your body "plays ball")... We were also unexplained infertility (after my first 2 were conceived naturally) but I am almost positive I couldn't fall pg naturally after surgery on my left ovary.... I guess it helped that we already knew I could fall pg and carry a baby etc... But, if your willing to try IVF, especially if your FS says it's a good option for you, then I reckon it's worth giving it a try? all thatsaid though, it's such a personal decision, so you have to do what's right for your family. Everyone is different xx

1 more - I went back and looked and realized you had said you were going to go into early menopause, which is the reason I actually responded (with one of my llllllloooonnnnggggg diatribe posts again)

If early menopause was an issue for me I think I'd go for IVF. I would want to try and get some frozen eggs/ embies so that I had something to transfer with a FET if the first cycle didn't work. But I'm a huge believer in FET's for some reason most of my IRL friends that have done IVF, have had success with a FET. I've never had a fresh transfer, so I cant compare..

Following on from the posts above......my FS said you there is more success with a FET cycle, do you know why? in my mind fresh would be better but obviously not so just curious if anyone knows why this is

1more - I have given your situation some more thought too and having done the IUI and the IVF now I think I would prefer to go IVF if I was faced with your dilema. I feel with the IVF being able to freeze an egg gave us more of a chance, knowing that we had 2 healthy fertilized eggs to go with felt like more of a chance then just having the sperm placed inside but not knowing if anything was happening and going to come of it. But again this is such a personal decsiion only you know what is best for you and your family. GL hun

AFM - I obviously had the trigger last night and this morning I am noticing the mild cramps and bloating and tingly b**bs so I am going to try and remember exactly what this feels like so when it happens for real I know what it is and recognise it

Regarding the fresh v frozen debate. My FS (who has been my gynae for 13 years) and delivered all my babies (including the twins, even though he had retired and is no longer an OB - so cool as he came along to assist my new OB) will not say frozen is better than fresh or vice a versa. My opinion is that your body has already been through so much with a fresh transfer... So perhaps giving your body a month to recover and then doing a FET helps? Not sure as I said, I've never had a fresh transfer? I do believe if it's going to happen, it will happen regardless of fresh or frozen - as long as they internal environment is right. This cycle I did everything I said I wouldnt - ran around like a headless chook, got no rest, ate crap (DH is an amazing cook but he's away), lifted the twins, I even jumped on the trampoline (moment of madness where I forgot about the transfer) I also had a hot bath on Saturday night (idiot).

As for the trigger - pretty exciting!! Just wait in a few days, or maybe even today you will look like your 6 months pregnant! That's the bit I hated... Seriously I couldn't do my jeans up! And my 12 year old asked if I was pg.... That trigger makes you so bloated it's not funny! But it goes away about 8 -9 days post trigger.... It's a bit disconcerting.

Good luck for your transfer! Do you know when it is yet? If you decide to POAS make sure you use a FRER - I wish had have! Could have saved myself a fair bit of unnecessary stress. Got a nice stronger line on a FRER this morning...

Sorry, I missed this earlier. The idea behind the better success rates with FET is that your body hasn't been through the stress of stimming (which can cause some inflammation-like effects) and the environment is therefore more favourable for implantation. This has really only come about since the freezing techniques improved (when we were doing our first FET in 2008, the FET success rate was much lower than for fresh cycles). If you have plenty of embryos, I think it's worth considering. But for someone like me with few embryos (we only had 2 by day 2 last time), it's not generally a good option because you will typically lose some during the thawing process.

If I may start with a bit of a "WTF?" post... So, AF finished on Sunday (CD5). Fairly normal in all aspects, compared to recent cycles. Then yesterday (CD8) I started bleeding again! WTF? Seriously? Just, WTF? And since AF had finished, I wasn't wearing any protection, so doubly annoyed because of the washing that had to be done as a result! Still bleeding this morning and cramping too... Again I say, WTF?

Crap Juniper..... I have the same problem, I will stop and then start up again a couple of days later, its annoying
My Acupuncturist is working with me to fix it though at times its hard as you have to see her when AF arrives and half the time she has no appointments available

GL though and please let me know if you find any info on this and a cure x

Thanks PositivelyGTC, it's reassuring to know it's not just me. I actually had acupuncture on Tuesday night (CD7, ie the night before I started bleeding again). I was considering phoning her to ask about it...

Hey juniper,

I was ov tracking (BT's) with each of the cycles where I had a secondary bleed and ov generally stayed the same - one or two cycles maybe it was pushed back 1- 2 days, but generally it depended on how long the secondary bleed lasted.. Are you cycle tracking with BT's? If yes, they will be able to tell you, if no can you use the OPK to be sure? I hope this only happens on the one cycle for you... I can't remember, were you on progesterone support for your last cycle (sorry to ask) as I think this can also mess with your cycle a bit, in the cycle immediately following.
