thread: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception - August 2007 #3

    Hi Guys
I am very new to this so please bare with me. I have been trying to conceive for the past 12 months. We have had natural cycels monitored, done 3 lots of unsuccessful IUI's and currently on our 2nd IVF. My first IVF was in June 2007 as this was my first I didnt expect much results as they were testing to see what drugs I could handle. They only retrieved 3 eggs and none of them made it to the blast stage so as you could imagine very upsetting. I have just completed my second round of IVF and had a better result, they collected 14 eggs which shocked me. Our first cycle we tried ICSI but this time chose IVF as we had more eggs and sperm. Out of the 14 eggs only 4 fertilised, I was very shocked as I expected alot more. We had our Day 3 phone call and was told there were still 4 in the running. We then had our Day 5 call (when transfer should occur) to find out that they still werent at Blast but they were on their way so they wanted to wait another day. This had happened to me in my first cycle but they never made it to the Day 6 so I had little hope this time. We were phoned on Day 6 to be told that we had a Day 6 blast grade 2, we couldnt believe it. So I am now I am waiting hopefully for a BFP which will be known next Thursday. I am currently also on Crinone cream which isn't very nice. Does anyone know or had a successful Day 6 blast transfer? Sorry for the long winded story!!!

well getting closer to my first day of bloods tracking for transfer.... next tuesday.

Rols - as much as you find our support helpful, so do we with yours. you seem very down to earth and quite knowledgable. its so refreshing to have a males point of view and my DH has read some of your posts and totally understood your feelings and comments. good luck with the rest of your TWW

MO5 - 4 blasties is a fab number ( that was our starting number too after our fresh transfer!)

me - wisdom teeth have flared up and my dentist has retired. so i went to a new one in south perth. he is young and fabuluos. after saying i start ivf next week he quickly got xrays done. then he proceeded to pull out two of my wisdom on one side and give me antibiotics for the infected side. i go back monday for the removal of the other two. just before my ivf starts! how wonderful i am in agony and feel like i have lost a major boxing match! one side is aching and the other is sore from infection... but all for a good cause!

we got approval on our house out of the suburbs with subject to sale on our current house. so now we put it on the market tomorrow and hope for a reasonably quick sale....yippee....

take care everybody, wherever or whatever stage you are at....

Welcome Nat to BB. We had a lady who used to be in these threads who did a Day 6 transfer of 2 blasts and who has now got twin boys as a result. HTH you.

Sonya, great news on the house. We nought our new place subject to sale too and sold out current house 2 days before the contract was due to expire. Hopefully you have a quick sale on your current place.

Well me, went for my BT today and tomorrow night start on the Gonal F, then will be in again next week for BT. Silly nurse today forgot to take my full BT and to top it off was jabbed twice cause the first time the needle couldnt get my vein! The nurse I had the first time was better. Hope I get her next time. So anyway next Tues have to have full BT and have acupuncture that arvo. So all on track. Half way there I suppose. AF finishing thankgoodness ... they were so sore this month! Lets hope the lunar eclipse from last night brings us lots of splendid little souls our way!

Karena, sorry I have no idea what 'preseed' is, but it certainly sounds interesting! One of the girls may be able to help.

Nat, I responded to your post on the TWW thread, but hi again anyway.

Sonya, you're lucky you could have the wisdom teeth out in the chair with a local (sounds as if you had it done that way) instead of via general and in hospital. It's much quicker, and massively cheaper. Both DW and I had to have ours surgically removed and between the two of us (with only extras PH cover at the time) I think it cost us something like 3K out of pocket which sucked. You'll be glad to be rid of them though; they're like the appendix and the coccyx, a throwback to our distant ancestors and totally useless.

Mon, don't you hate it when they go back for seconds? They did that to DW at the EPU and she wasn't a happy camper. Speaking of the eclipse, I tried to get photos from our front yard last night, but DW has gone and lost the tripod attachment, and with the slow shutter speed and wide aperture needed for decent night photography the photos ended up blurred and crappy.

Smithy, I reckon it's natural to be excited. We all love progress!

Oi, BG, whaddup? You are being uncharacteristically quiet (and I mean that in the best possible way - it's not the same without your wisdom). Hi to Holly, BW, Chez, Shelly, Mel, Nic, Shannon, Ellie, Sparkles, Mo5 and anyone else who has escaped my mind.

    Hi to everyone

Was just having a chat with BW, Sarah and Missy in the on-line chat room. My first time - very cool!

So much happening here at the mo' which is just great.

Rols - when I was on the crinone I was exhausted - in bed by 8pm most nights and just did not feel rested in the morning at all. I know BG had a similar experience even though it is not a documented side affect. Still, I understand what you mean about the extra pressure from HPTs... sounds like you will be a bit tense waiting for that phone call. I really hope you are one of the first time success stories!

Mo5 - things are sounding good for you too, here's hoping

Hi Mon - I am not easy to take blood out of either. I am used to being a bit of a pin cushion so always try to prewarn the nurse just in case they aren't feeling too confident. But last time they missed and had to get a 2nd nurse, it REALLY HURT! Makes Gonal-f and the trigger look like a walk in the park in comparison! Good luck with your cycle1

Sonya - glad you were able to get your teeth sorted out so quickly. You are brave having them done under local! And congrats on the house... we move into our new one in 3 weeks. We are so looking forward to the extra space!

Hi Nat and welcome to our chat thread. You will find lots of experienced and supportive people here. Good luck wiht your b/t and I hope your stay with us short!

Hi Mel - all sounding good for you!! How exciting! Good luck with b/t day!

Hi to Hollly, Karena, Sparkles, BG, Smithy, Sushee, Ellie, BG and everyone else. Hope you are all doing well. Take care,
    Cherylxxx

Thanks for the info on the fatigue/crinone thing, Chez. Must admit I am feeling a bit bummed now though because that seemed to be the main thing that she has that wasn't listed as a crinone side effect. She's been on the crinone since Monday last week, and the fatigue started on the weekend a bit (t/f Fri), but has definitely kicked off since Monday this week. Who knows. Better to be forewarned though and keep our feet on the ground.

    hi all

sorry i've been quiet of late - have been reading but by the time i get on here most of the things i'd normally pop in to say have been said already!

i guess i've been a little withdrawn - having good news and then bad so soon after has put me in a very different frame of mind - i'm very focussed on moving forward, and perhaps selfishly (sorry) i'm being very "me" oriented - i have had some issues with getting my cycle going, and then with other dramas along the way, so i've become a bit of an introvert! i guess i just feel very vulnerable and exposed at the moment, so self preservation has kicked in

i had my trigger shot today, and IUI tomorrow, so i will soon be joining some of you in the TWW - hopefully i'll be back to my chatty self by then

sorry for no personals - as i said, i've been following closely, but finding it hard to post too much

    take care all!

I am in utter shock, it truly is a miracle, i have taken two tests and been to the doctor and had a urine test, i still want to speak to my specialist about getting blood tests etc
BUt after 16 months of ttc and told we have to use ivf and the month i didnt temp, i drank, had hot baths, didnt take any notice, didnt time intercourse, did everything wrong
I am still in disbelief and a tad worried Due to everything and the long wait. PLease pray for me that its STICKY and healthy, Hubby is in shock too, he keeps telling me to do another test.

    Hi Mel
Appointment was great. I love my FS. All tests for recurrent mc came back clear so that ruled alot out and he'd tested for coeliac disease which was clear too. So...the plan is to throw everything at me this time...asprin everyday starting today...down reg this month and full stim next month (ICSI) with antibiotics, steriods and hcg boosters from transfer through to BT...I think he called it the 'colorado protocol' or something like that anyway...he thinks my embryos are sensitive to the culture medium so we will do a day 1 transfer ...he also thinks that my immune system is kicking in as a reaction to the culture and maybe DH's part of the embryo...hope that all makes sense??? It's easier to 'talk' it than write it!@?! Oh...and to top it all off I'm CD 1 today so I'm off for bloods tomorrow morning and start synarel on CD 21...so Monday I was pregnant...Thursday I'm on the road again!@?! Feels really positive though. Very happy with the plan!
