Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014

Pholi, I'm so sorry to hear that. We only tried for a 5dt once - we had 7 eggs, 6 embryos, 2 looked good on day 3 and then didn't grow any further... I remember how hard it was to deal with that disappointment, so i hope your straggler catches up tonight. xx

N2l & Emma, I have to say I think I'm in a similar place too. I have been tracking my cycle for 7 years and until May this year I O'd every single cycle like clockwork. I've now had 2 annov cycles in a row and if this cycle makes it 3 in a row I can't help but think my ovaries have thrown in the towel on my behalf... We are looking at donor embryos as an option to complete our family, so it's not necessarily the end of the journey, but that doesn't really make it any less upsetting... I've been feeling quite defeated since the first annov cycle...

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014

No, as expected nothing today. The one embryo that had grown on from day 3 still had only 10 cells today, same as yesterday.

I have to continue with the Crinone for 5 days, but just once a day. Apparently, if you stop the progesterone too suddenly, your period comes early and that increases the risk of cysts forming.

The embryologist this morning said that in examining the cycle, there is nothing the lab can suggest to improve things from their point of view. So any changes are likely to be from improving egg quality or egg numbers.

They'll call after the team meeting tomorrow, but most likely we'll take a cycle off, then try again the next cycle with a few changes.

Neither the nurse or embryologist would give me any figures on how common it is to have a cycle with nothing to transfer. Or whether of not having one cycle with nothing to transfer increased the likelihood that it would happen again. Surely they know these things?

Has anyone else had an egg collection cycle with nothing to transfer by day 5? Did you ask those questions?

But 1mp, I did enjoy the party. I thought it would be more difficult than it was, but only my mother mentioned it and I shut her down mid sentence and told her we're not thinking about it so don't even finish that question, thanks- and she understood.

The party was awesome. The part of me that was at the party had to stay totally disconnected from the part that was grieving the failed cycle, but that first part had an amazing time.

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014

Pholi, I'm sorry to hear your embie didn't catch up. As I mentioned above, we did have a similar experience for IVF#4. We did IVF#5 (first IVF with FS#2, first with endo diagnosed/treated and first ICSI cycle) 5 months later and that cycle gave us DD.

I'm not sure how true this is (since I'm not an expert), but I have read that embryos that fail before day 3 are due to poor egg quality and embryos that fail after day 3 are due to poor sperm quality. In IVF#4, we had 4 of our 6 embryos fail before day 3 (so presumably bad eggs) and the other 2 failed after day 3 (so presumably bad sperm). We know from other testing that both DH and I do have quality issues, so, for us, it became a game of luck - getting one of the rare good eggs fertilised by one of the rare good sperm... It all boiled down to luck...

Glad to hear you enjoyed the party in spite of the circumstances. xx

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014

Thanks Juniper. The embryologist said that yes, the egg drives development til day3, but he explained that failures after this are due to the combined DNA, not blamed purely on the sperm.

Has anyone been on clomid and the higher the dose, the longer the cycle? I have just finished a cycle on 150mg and had a 46 day cycle!
