Hi all, I am just wondering if it is normal to be feeling quite bloated and sore in the abdo if I am only on day 4 of FSH injections. I don't have my first scan until Friday and as I have PCOS I am a little concerned about OHSS. I have been started on 200units puregon.
Thanks so much.
JS, yes it is normal as your ovaries are growing. I think most of the ladies experience this to a varying degree. You'd be more likely to suffer OHSS towards the end of the treatment. However, you should still ring your clinic/nurse and discuss.
A big hi to everyone!
Shan - I hope those symptoms are Pg symptoms! I wishI could somehow speed up the next 9 days for you.
Megan - how are you feeling?
Mo5 and Sonya - woohooh!! I am stoked for you both.
Smithy - thinking of you for tomorrow matey! Wishing you HEAPS of luck!
BW - hope today went well.
Bec - congrats on starting. It is a bit scarey at first, yes, when you start, but hang in there. I found I settled down a few days into taking the pill, and was cruising from then. Good luck hun!
JoeS - I can't answer your Q, but being that bloated after only 4 injections is something I would be thinking about discussing with your nurse, if you haven't already.
Rols - where are you and DW at? Hope you're both well!
As for me - it has been an "interesting," day!
I could really use some advice! My scan this morning (tonight is day 9 of injections) showed 12 follies on my right and 6 on the left, so I was a wee bit taken aback when my nurse phoned and said I only had 3 follies which are the right size for collection on Friday (12, 14 & 16mm). When I questioned why only that many, she said it was most likely because I was on a low dose of Gonal (225i.u.) as I have polycystic appearing ovaries. Apparently there was no point increasing the dose a few days ago as it wouldn't have affected the outcome a great deal?? Does that make sense? What I'm now wondering is, if it's much use continuing on with this cycle. If I'm being realistic, there's probably not much of a chance for a BFP from this no. of eggs is there?? Or is that being too pessimistic? Right now, money isn't a big issue, thankfully, so we can go ahead with it, and be ok to go again soon after, if it doesn't work, BUT it is still going to be atleast $2.5K out of pocket for this cyce if we do go ahead, so I guess I am just wanting to know (from those who have a bit more experience with IVF than I), will we be wasting our money with results like this?? When looking at the US screen, there seemed to be atleast 4 - 6 follies that were around 11mm. How likely are these to catch up b/w now and Friday?? Is there a good chance I will get more than 3 eggs??Am feeling a bit deflated! I know the 1st go is very trial and error, and not to expect too much, but I still feel pretty flat.Would love to hear from anyone who can offer some useful advice. Thanks,Arielle

Arielle ... that seems like a bit of an ouch situation. AT least they have told you! Its almost like you are damned if you do and damned if you dont.
Reflecting back to my situation I was suprised when they told me my EPU date given my nurse told me at the last scan that I would probably go in on the Fri or Mon (and instead went in on Wed). I had a lot of follies, but they werent huge in size - like yours. I reckon they were worries I overstimulate and that is why I went in early. The embryologist said that my egg quality werent good that is why most of them didnt make it (except the one). I think (without having it confirmed) that my eggs were immature. So that is why I am so angry. But as you pointed out it is very trial and error. Its a hard one, cause really all you need is one good one! I probably still would have gone through it (but everyone is different) cause you're propelled forward by hope!
My little embie didnt make it unfortunately! AF reared her ugly head this morning! SO was pretty angry and upset! (But dont take my case as example)! You never know ... there have been so many miracles around! WE just have to keep pushing forward! I know how you feel though Arielle, but try to stay positive (as hard as it is!!!)
To every one else . hi and hope you are all doing well!
Sonya - CONGRATS - really happy for you!
M0f5 - what fab news! Twins! That is awesome! You must be over the moon!!!
Megan - good luck in 2WW!
Smithy - good luck with EPU tomorrow!!!!! Look forward to hear how it goes!
AS for me ... will probably take a couple of months off from this crazy bandwagon! Need to clear my head and get the drugs out of my system ... just want to feel normal! How long does that take? What is the minumum best time to take off before jumping back in with a full stim cycle?
Good luck everyone.
Mon, I'm so sorry to hear it didn't work this time.Taking a break is a hard decision to make, but from my perspective (of having one forced upon me), it has been very worthwhile.
Arielle, afraid I don't have any advice for you. Good luck making a decision.
BW
Arielle - its good they are warning you. they told me that it looked like i would only have 2-3 follies the correct size at epu but i ended up with 7 of which 5 became blasties! so maybe just slug it out and hope for the best. you might only need one good embie. but of course its entirely your choice. maybe discuss with your FS or clinic nurse tomorrow what they feel would be the best choice for you. take care...
BW, Mon, and Sonya - thanks for your replies!
Smithy - can't wait to hear how today has gone.
Mon - I am so so sorry to hear the evil crone has arrived. My heart goes out to you. I completely understand why you're feeling angry and frustrated. Did they not tell you your follies were still small, and give you a choice if you wanted to push on or not?? Ofcourse, being 1st cycle for you they were no doubt being ultra-cautious about OHSS, and maybe weren't able to give you such a choice (?hospital protochol) but it still would have been nice for them to have informed you more of your situation before EPU. It feels a lot like these clinics don't tell us a lot of the ins & outs sometimes, and when you ask q's, they are not all that forthcoming at times. V.frustrating! Good on you, however, for being strong enough to give yourself a break. I hope you'll be feeling 'normal,' before long. Thinking of you.
Sonya - thanks so much for your words last night. It was exactly what I needed to hear. Ofcourse, my result may end up being different to yours, but it's great to know there's still hope of getting more eggies, and that maybe just maybe, it could result in a BFP (as you've so bewdifully demonstrated - yay!!).
OUR DECISION:-
DH & I have decided to keep our chins up and forge ahead with this cycle. We are very much hoping that those 3 follies contain awesome qual eggies, and that a couple of other follies will have caught up by Friday, and provide us with some surprise eggies also. So here's hoping!!!!!
As I am incredibly tired, I have decided to take off Wed. & Thurs this week also, so perhaps some R&R will help plump up those other follies *fingers crossed*
Take care all! Will keep you updated.
Arielle
Hi Arielle
I can definately understand how you are feeling, i was in the same situation 2 weeks ago we were told at last scan we only had 2 follicles ready for EPU, and then at EPU we ended up with 3 eggs and ended up with 2 day 3 embryos to put back. I was devastated and felt so let down by my body and the doctors. And very hush hush and i say this only to give you some confidence i may or may not have POAS this morning and got a BFP. So definately dont give up and stay positive. Quality not quantity wishing you all the luck in the world!
Shan
:O Shannon!!!!! Congrats![]()
wow!!! (very quietly!) if you got that result already maybe both are sticky littlies!!! oooh how exciting!!! oh sorry, ssshhhhhh........
Shan - you've just made my day! Congrats to you! When is BT?
I am starting to read a few of these low egg no.'s with pos results stories now, and am feeling 10 times better about it already! I guess first cycle, not knowing what to expect, I've freaked out a little, but all cool now. Like my friend said last night, there may be only 3 eggs there, but one of them may belong to my future bub, and I just have to hold onto that hope right now.
Thanks again everyone!
Arielle
Thanks guys it was only a very faint line but a line none the less so i just need it to get darker over the next couple of days. We still have 8 days until BT and then DH & I can get excited. We have never seen a BFP before so i am a little nervous and scared![]()
Oh yes - how nice it would be to see a 2nd line for once! Perhaps it is twins if is showing up this early?
Thanks so much for sharing Shan,as I really am feeling much better now. I have everything crossed for you for BT in 8 days.
Take care!
Arielle
