    Hi Brussels

I did stop taking the metformin but i dont think it had anything to do with the mc. The day i found out i was pregnent i was taken to hospital with sever back and abdominal pain, while there i had no idea i would be preg so they gave me morphine, some cramp medication and i also had an xray. So im sure that mix had something to do with the mc not that i stopped taking the metformin.

i dont want to tell you to take it or not take it, but i would talk to the fs and ask them if it will hurt bub if you continue to take it - if there is no harm i would probably keep taking it. just express your concerns about stopping the met.

the reason i stopped taking it was that i was unsure if it was bad on bub or not.

hope this helps hope all is going fantastic with you still

Hey Tam...Thanks so much for the response. The problem is that there is not enough research on this subject...I have been breaking my neck looking, then doctor said that some dostors do one thing and some the other. This whole thing is really scary; I decided that since it got me this far, I am going to continue until 12-14 weeks, then stop - I have been on it during the formation of all fetal organs so if there is damage to be done, it already has been. This is scary and I don't know if I am making the right decision, but I am too scared to get off now. I googled the subject and so many women have taken it until the end of the first trimester with no issues, that I think I will just continue...

    I'll keep you guys posted.

Brussels..... My friend is a pharmacist and i asked her about Metformin.Under the classing system of drugs,Metformin is a class C.This meansuring trials this drug has had some efects on animal studies but no known evidence on human studies.Class c drugs should only be used by the pregnant woman if the risk to the mothers health outweighs the fetus risk.Example,Anti depressants can be used as its a necessity for the mothers mental health etc etc. I hope this helps.Everything else i found out is off the internet and it says its studies are basically inconclusive at this stage.
Im glad that your bub is growing well.Try to relax...stress isnt good for you.Do what you know in your heart is best.

My update: Nothing much happening..only second day of clomid...long way to go yet..ho hum.

As long as it isnt going to hurt bub then i think its a good thing you stay on it - even just for your peace of mind, happy calm mum to be is better than a stressed one i also think it is good to slowly stop taking them rather than just all together.

hope i gave you a little reasurance that i highly doubt my mc had anything to do with not taking met

Ive been reading back on the posts here and the last thread and is sounds like it common for early pregnancy symptoms to be hungry and going to the toilet heaps, the last couple of days i have been starving and going to the toilet heaps. Makes me think good thoughts, but dont want to get my hopes up

Wantbaby, thanks so much for asking your friend and tammara I wish I knew if this affected bub, but I can't find conclusive research...I have read the classification of the drug and how it affected animals, but as far as humans go, no solid info...

I did see that they said that babies born to mothers who took met throughout their preg sometimes have the risk of having low blood sugar...which is why I'm stopping as soon as I am out of the first trimester. Also, I read that mothers with Type 2 and IR who DID NOT take met have a problem with their babies gaining too much weight in utero due to the mother's blood sugar issues...

Here are a few articles that sort of discuss the issue...

Saying it lowers MC rate -
PCOS Miscarriage Cut to 12% With Metformin - Brief Article | Family Pratice News | Find Articles at BNET

    Can Metformin Cause A Miscarriage?

This is quoted from another forum:

"a recent study from Cairo University in Egypt suggests that metformin may actually be beneficial by reducing the risk of miscarriage. The study included two groups of women with PCOS.

The first group stopped metformin as soon as they discovered they were pregnant. The second group continued with metformin throughout the pregnancy.

The rate of early pregnancy loss in the group that continued with metformin was 11.6% compared with a 36.3% loss in the non-metformin group.

A probable reason why metformin is beneficial is that it improves the performance of insulin in your body by reducing "insulin resistance"
    http://www.ovarian-cysts-pcos.com/news39...

And some articles saying that there is not enough research or saying it is safe for fetus....

Metformin Exposure During First Trimester Seen Safe for Fetus

Metformin in early pregnancy safe for fetus | DoctorNDTV: Health news on Metformin in early pregnancy safe for fetus

And some threads from other forums with women taking met discussing the issue:
Taking Metformin while pg? what are your drs. saying? - PCOSupport Community Forums

Taking Metformin during pregnancy - PCOS Message Board

Metformin during pregnancy - PCOS Message Board

I am also a member of forums like soulcysters, for PCOS and I see a lot of back and forth on the issue. From my research I see more people suffering from MC when stopping abruptly (which is why I am choosing to wean myself off) as well as many cases where nothing really happened because of the met - for example women who have miscarried on, off and while stopping, so not really strongly linked to the met.

I just get scared because if the met is regulating the insulin and I just stop, won't that throw my body out of whack too fast? That's what scares me...so I'm stopping slowly. I am lucky to only be on 1000 and not 2000 a day so cutting back should be easier and stopping should not be as hard on me or bub...

This whole issue is so confusing! But I am following my gut. I really believe the met is sustaining this along with the prog. so I refuse to risk mc by jolting my body out of the habits it has...I will do it slowly and I hope that into the second trimester I will have miore energy to be able to excercise more in order to compensate for the met...for the moment, I have a hard time excercising due to extreme fatigue

It is a bit frustrating to stress to get preg and once we do to stress about every thing we put in our mouths and not know what decision is the right one. I have to trust my gut on this...I have no other choice...

Anyway, I am not complaining because for now everything is going well and that is the most important thing.

I am leaving tomorrow to see my sister for 5 days in Spain so I will get some sun and medidate and talk it over with her...I think my mind is made up though.

Have a great weekend girls and lots of relaxation and BD to everyone!!!

Hi Beckie - yes I have been up in the 60's I did get told it is a definate sign that you ovulated, usually means more than one egg released - but I haven't heard that it is an early sign of pregnancy. Fingers crossed for you anyway.

I do my day 21 tomorrow then its the dreaded wait for just over a week to see if this was my month...

OK, so I am up to day 26, max days are usually 32. I o'ed on day 16 and I have to have a blood test tomorrow to see if I am Pre as I have my FS appointment on Thursday - to book me in for further work if I am not!

I have been having dreams (freakishly vivid) that I am this month and have the world most painful n.....les since O. But did a HPT this morning and negative - I just couldn't wait.

Is it a sign of pregnancy that your n...... are really sore and hard most of time? Sorry for the details.

This is the longest two week wait I have ever had.

    Hi Bec

Wow sounds promising as my (.)(.) were really sore with my last DD before i did HPT! I am also on day 26,how cool is that and my cycle varies from 28 days to about 34 days and i also did a HPT today and i swear i can see the feintest of shadows but who knows.

My symptoms are the (.)(.) thing also, i feel like im going to be sick whenever im hungry,im sooooo tired and i cant sleep but i have read alot of the net about Clomid and the symptoms as this is my first cycle and they all say teh signs are the same as pregnancy, bummer! SO im trying to not get my hopes up at all even though ive already talked myself into being pregnant ha ha.....

Good luck Bec and i hope we both get our BFP this month!

    Hi Girls.Hope everyone is well.
31Becc~ I get really sore nipples from ovulation all the time.Nearly every month but unfortunatley havnt been pregnant...hopefully its a different sign for you though.
Since i have been on the clomid i too have been having really vivid dreams.I even woke up in the morning last month ready to buy the carseat as i dreamt i had a baby boy but had no carseat to take him home from hospital in.It seemed soooo real and i was very upset to find i was dreaming. That was one dream...the others are similar but so sad to wake up and see its not real.
Beckie73~ I have only heard that high progesterone levels indicate the release of an egg...a high score can mean more than one egg but just like 31Becc,i havnt heard its a sign of pregnancy.
