    Question sex and the TWW

I have never felt like DTD during an IVF TWW. But this time around I do!!!
We are 3 days past transfer, do you think we would be ok to do it this early in the TWW? Anyone else done it and still managed to get UTD!

I am only on crinone at night which I think has helped with reducing the ukky feeling this time around.

Also should I or should I not orgasm?

Dusty - the only thing my clinic said was no sex in the first 24 hours post transfer

my theory (and it worked this time) was as long as you don't go too hard, it should be fine. orgasm helps to get the uterine muscles working, increases blood flow to the uterus etc... i say go for it

some people are very worried about sex in the tww - the way i see it (and this is my personal opinion), you wouldn't really abstain for a "normal" tww, and given that, once the embryo is transferred, it is essentially the same as a normal tww, you should behave normally.

i think post full stim cycle, its' different as there has been a lot more going on in there, but for FET (or for donor transfer in your case) it's natural to go back to living life....

FWIW - we had three IVF transfers - two of the tww, we got no HCG - and there was no sex in those TWW. the third we had my birthday in there, and figured to hell with it. although our angel couldn't stick around, we DID get a bfp that cycle. this IUI cycle, we just behaved like nothing was happening - life as normal kwim?

good luck with your TWW - do what makes YOU comfy hun

they say that having the O can actually help, why not. i've done it all. had sex and then not and made no difference to me.

if you're feeling like it then do it. good luck

Well DH is most happy to hear I am up for it, and he will be even happier when I tell him about your replies

Thanks ladies, not something I have felt like doing before but this whole donor cycle/FET puts a different spin on how I feel - no huge amount of hormones doing crazy things to my head...

I know the "deed" has probably been done but we have been told by our clinic no sex during the first week. I am not sure whether it is for the reason of infection of just for the fact that our clinic does not promote multiple births until you are over say 37. The above is very interesting lol

I also can't have a bath, go swimming, use tampons (not that I am wanting to use them!!!!) "due to infection". Swimming would have been nice over the weekend as it was so hot but oh well!

kasam i think some of it relates to whether it's a fresh transfer (so you've had EPU - and increased hormones, increased chance of infection following EPU) - or frozen (or in Dusty's case a medicated cycle with no EPU due to donor cycle). none of our paperwork explicitly said no DTD for any period of time, but post EPU, i don't think most people would want to anyway!

yep 'deed' is done and was absolutely fine and felt really safe and comforting.

i admit i have never felt like it after an EPU during the TWW. I was reading that some clinics have a no sex policy for the TWW and others don't worry from 24 hours after ET. I also heard that some believe it is helpful to DTD just before ET (morning of or evening before) as semen can 'prime' the uterus for acceptance of the embryo. Perhaps others know more about this than me.

when it comes to IUI's, we were recommended to DTD same night or next day. also it was suggested not to abstain before FET but i can't remember why.... i know i could never bring myself to do anything night before cos of the "what if there is some there during transfer" factor - ewwwwww, but 24 hours before we always did. even for IUI's, we dtd most times that morning without DH being able to finish - cos i read somewhere orgasm helps to prime the uterus too... go figure!

i have read so much now, i just can't remember what i read where!

    TMI WARNING

i've got a sex and tww question... dtd and hubby noticed things had "tightened up'' quite substantially. arhm. anyway. just wondering if that is the crinone gel's doing? BT tomorrow hopefully for some good news so if i'm UTD, would that be a cause?

    any help/advice/knowledge appreciated.

Hayley, I am really not sure hun, but I do know that I have also noticed a tightening but I am also still on progesterone support (pessaries after using crinone in the TWW). I hope someone else may be able to cast a bit more light on it.

there's a couple of things that might cause tightening - one being the progesterone meds, another being that, if you've not dtd for a while, you might be a bit "tighter" naturally. i know when DH is away for work, it's always a firmer fit first time around when we're together again because i think the muscles need more encouragement to stretch a bit (and i think, cos he hasnt had any for a while, his girth is a bit bigger...)

i've definitely felt different DTD every time since pg...

Just to throw out a completely different opinion - my clinic promotes dtd on the same night after embryo transfer. They told me there were studies that showed that sex increases the blood flow to that region and this increase can assist the embie in attaching.

Who knows?????????? I am going to give it a go because my previous 7 attempts i have completely abstained the whole tww and all bfn

    Hi girls,

Just throwing my 2 cents worth of input into this discussion.

I have always been told to DTD night before transfer for the same reason as stated by mollygirl. Apparently it increases one's chance of implantation and relax the cervix which makes transfer a lot easier (we always DTD b4 transfer and... well transfer is always smooth..never had a prob with bleeding after transfer). Clinic only recommends abstaining from DTD 24 hours after transfer.. not sure why but I guess it might disturb the cervix which needs to be closed tight to prevent infection and complications. Same goes with hot tubs, spas, saunas.. apparently it increases your body temp which is not good for implantation and bub.....
