    Hello ladies,

I too am new to this thread and have just mostly been observing until now but would like to join in, this site is such a great place to share our experiences.

Where i am at is that I have recently been prescribed clomid, 25mg to start. I have PCOS too and have known for quite a few years and have been TTC since about november last year.

I just started on the provera today to bring on the AF as i'm on day 45 at moment and she still hasn't arrived (not unusual). Its crazy because each cycle before this one i've been dreading its arrival because it means we haven't got pg, but now i can't wait for it to come so i can get on the clomid sooner! Am cramping a lot today so could be a sign that AF is actually coming so fingers crossed.

Looking forward to a BFP soon

Welcome Kristie86, blondie, ally and maz76.

Ally, if you don't mind me asking, i'm curious as to why your gyno has you taking clomid on and off. One of the questions i'd been meaning to ask my FS is whether it has a cumulative effect (i guess it doesn't, if it's OK to take it every 2nd cycle).

Kristie86, how are you going with the metformin? Hope the side-effects aren't giving you too much trouble.

Blondie, sorry I can't answer your questions. I don't even really know what metformin is!

Kazz, good to see you're back. I'm on CD9 so we're almost in sync! Except that I'll probably O day 20 if last cycle's anything to go by... anyway, good luck this week!!

Blondie, have you been on metformin for the last year? If that is the case I would certainly say you've given it long enough and should probably start looking into other things as well. After 6 months for me it was obvious that metformin alone wasn't enough.

    Good luck!

    Hi Everyone,
Just a quick post today... I am on day 6 of metformin and so far i only got side effects the second day of taking it apart from that nothing. I am thinking myself lucky after some of the horror stories i have read about the side affects. Also just wondering is it possible at all to start ovulating after only taking it for round a week....

    Hi chocolatecatty,

i don't know about that for sure, but i know you shouldn't take it you are pregnant which is why my fs made me to a blood test for HCG before i started it. So perhaps breastfeeding is the same. Your doctor or pharmacist should be able to tell you for sure.

    Thanks Maz79.
I had a pelvic u/s yesterday to check for cysts and there was no bubba in there, just a bunch of cysts. From what I've googled, provera's ok but Drs. will try to make you wean if taking Clomid, though there were plenty of women not listening to that advice. Guess I should talk to my Dr. anyway!

    hi ladies.

thanks butterfly warrior.. i have been on metformin for a while.. over a year.. i thought that was long enough and have been looking into clomid.. although gp is saying that metformin alone is enough.. hmmm might go for a second opinion!..

kristie.. im really not sure how long it takes.. i have heard of women getting pregnant after only one month on it so maybe it is?.

Blondie, in that case I'd certainly be pushing for a referral to an FS, or a gynecologist at least and start looking into clomid. For me, 6 months on metformin was enough to see that it clearly wasn't enough to restore any semblance of menstrual regularity. I also only had one go at clomid and decided that wasn't the answer either - severe anxiety problems as side effects that had me off work for a week and it didn't make me ovulate! You've certainly been much more patient than I was, but it does appear to be time to move on to something else now, sadly.

Kristie, I've heard of women ovulating within days of taking metformin for the first time, but in more severe cases of PCOS, longer is usually needed. It's good that you're not having trouble with side effects. What dose are you on at the moment, and what does your doctor want you to get to?

Hi everyone. DH, DS and I have all had colds and coughs the last few days - I'm exhausted and we can barely manage to force ourselves to BD at night... not very romantic I'm afraid!

Kazz, did you manage to find out anything about clomid being cumulative? I googled it but just came up with lots of stuff about side-effects being cumulative. Are you in the TWW now?

    Hello everyone...
BW- i am gradually workin my way up to my dose of 1500mg over 3 weeks. Is this amount the usual dosage that ppl start on?

Also just a general question what are some sure signs that ovulation my be about to occur... Im new and not very knowledgeable about these kind of things.

1500mg seems to be a fairly standard dose for PCOS. It may freak out some pharmacists as the usual dose for type 2 diabetes is only 1000mg. I'm not sure why the difference, but I do know that my first specialist only put me on 1000mg, and I got nowhere until I changed specialists and he upped it to 1500mg, and then the weight came off. Just be careful - sometimes it's better to go two weeks at one dose before you increase. Your side effects will be the best indicator of how you're going, though. Don't push it if you're not feeling well.

The most obvious sign that ovulation is going to occur is egg-white cervical mucus. It looks exactly like raw, clear egg white. It's very stretchy. If you're on clomid it may reduce cervical mucus, so you may want to be using something like OPKs, but I honestly found them to be more stress than they were worth. You may want to check out fertility friend - lots of great information there.

    MGM.

I googled about the clomid thing and from what I've read I think that it stays in your system for a up to a month or more then gets excreted....., so I guess it doesn't really cause the next cycle dose picks up where the last one left off.

My DH and son have been really sick also, to the point where my DH couldn't meet the challenge when I O'd, very frustrating as I think the clomid is making me super horny...
I am in the TWW but sceptical of a BFP.

Where are you at the moment?
