Depending on what grading system was used, 4% isn't necessarily terrible. Our IVF clinic considered anything at or above 2% normal morph to be normal, based on a fairly strict assessment methodology. Some labs say >15% is normal. In any event, it's normal for most sperm to abnormally formed due to the very high cell replication involved in sperm production.

If his count is good, his motility alright, and his morphology perhaps questionable, I wouldn't despair about that at all. A low count and poor motility would be more of an issue.

Get him on Menevit too. Supposed to be the balls that stuff. About $30 for a month's supply.

    You'll get there chicken. Promise.

Pumpkin Zulu, Im a little curious and concerned as to why your FS would tell you that 4% is a bad number???? DH had 5% 'normal' sperm levels and that was considered pretty well normal, having anything upto 97% of abnormal sperm can often be considered 'abnormally normal', gosh, does that make sense? Considering even FS's dont even know what constitutes 'abnormal' and so may double tailed spermies have created perfectly healthy babies.
Please know that if you need to go with IVF, you will find the strength that you need because I honestly believe you will do everything in your power to hold your miracle. Miracles do happen hun, with the above odds and being told we had less then a 1% chance of ever having a baby naturally (for no good reason, I might add!), we conceived naturally after 5 years of failed IVF. That one little tiny baby is just waiting for its chance to enter your life but I really hope for you that it is really soon.

Sorry, I hope that didnt sound like an attack, it wasnt meant to . DH was 21 at the time, so pretty young too. Makes you so mad especially being soooo young. Try not to panic too much, your FS might be being a bit more pesimistic then he/she should be! As was already said he does have a heck of a lot of those little swimmers. I do hope you get your little miracle soon hun x

    Just an update...

The reason the FS said 4% was bad was because DF has a condition called anucleated spermatozoa, which basically means that 96% of his sperm do not have heads...and seeing as the head is where the genetic makeup is, it really means that DF only has 4% sperm full stop, as the other 96% will not be able to penetrate the egg, they're essentially 'blanks'. The 4% he does have are abnormal forms (the FS said their heads were oddly shaped), and have low motility. I am on the waiting list of a laporoscopy, hysteroscopy and d&c to search for any other issues, and after that I'll be starting Clomid...FS says if I'm not preg by May next year (so by the time I'm 21) we'll start IVF.

Just another one here who wants to say never say never

While you're waiting on the Hycosy & other tests, you can definately start taking a few things to help you along

    * Menevit.... It is AMAZING stuff (they say approx 3 months before its at its best, so start on that asap.)
    * Blackmores Conception (For you).. in a pink box, my naturopath said the same as the menevit... for 3 months to kick in at their full potential
    * Royal Jelly... There's a thread I started about it here https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...ly-107221.html Limeslice made a fabulous post full of info
(Obviously be careful & check if you have any bee or pollen allergies etc) - Both you & your DP can take it.
I completely 100% believe this made the difference in our last IVF cycle that gave me my beautiful DS2.
    * See a naturopath/acupuncturist to see if they can help you with your cycle as well... that you're ovulating... they may be able to help with the length of your cycle, in particular your luteal phase. My acupuncture managed to get me into a beautiful & regular 28 day cycle.

Overall, if you happen to face IVF, please know that while its not easy... its doable
You have so much passion to have a baby, you can feel it in your posts... right there is all the strength you need to get you through it. You're stronger than you think

Best of luck and ask, ask away if you need anything xxx

All the pain you and your DF are going through will just mean that once your bub comes it will be extra extra extra sweet.
