im deciding when to leave work , i need to tell my work asap.
how many weeks is good to leave at? so confused , dont want to leave to early coz of money but dont want to leave it to late incase she is early lol
how many weeks were u/ are u when u left work?
i left work at 35 weeks, My DS EDD was 16/09/09 but he arrived 05/09/09 so a few days early. IMO anywhere between 35-37 would be relitivly safe unless of course she is premature. its totally up to how your feeling within yourself and the pregnancy.
Good luck anyway
btw. im no professional on maternity leave so thats just my story and opinion.
I finished up at 36 weeks in the hope that it would give me at least 2 weeks before bubs came. In the end I got 4.5 weeks which was great. I think it is really important to have a bit of time to yourself before bubs arrived, I relished it and am so good I did it. Also by the time I got to about 33 weeks I was absolutely exhausted, I don't think there would have been anyway I could of kept going past 36 weeks, even at around 34 weeks I was wondering if I should stop working, but soldiered on.
Hi
with DD1 at 38 but she was 2 weeks overdue so I had 4 full weeks of relax (and a bit of boredom)
with DD2 at 38 but it was a forced planned CS so she was born the week after at 39. I was so desperate to have some time off, I was tired, running after my toddler and having to work as well... then 1 week was NOT enough... but I managed.
the question is... when do you go back to work? if you have maternity leave paid, I would work up to 38 and keep a spare 2 weeks for later (and if you can ask to be paid part time, eg for gov/public service like teachers/nurses etc 16 weeks full time, but it's better 32 part time since you get more money (less taxed) and more time with your baby)
I went back to work with DD2 at 5 weeks (literally 5 weeks from CS), but with flexible work arrangement (from home and at my hours), obviously not full time.
It wasn't a choice, I had to, since the money was needed...
so think about when to stop and also when to go back.
If baby is early obviously you want to have some rest, but if baby is late (like my DD1) if you stop at 35 you may have 7 weeks of relax which could be too much (especially at the end when you can't wait to have your baby!).
sorry, hope I didn't confuse you even more...
I finished up at 32 weeks, mainly because I thought it would be too hot to trek into the city every day.
I had some annual leave, so took that before my 12 weeks (24 weeks at half pay) kicked in.
I think you need to consider how stressful the work you do is on your body, also of course how much money you need to get by!
I was without any kind of paid leave, so wanted to work as long as possible.
I ended up working in the office until 38.5 weeks (10 days before EDD) and at home until 41+1 weeks (2 days before she was born).
IMHO looking back it was much too much & I would have been better off to finish up earlier... more like 34-36 weeks. Even though it was my 4th baby I under-estimated how tired I would be
reason being im having a lot of pelvic pain and trouble with my joints and back pain so it hurts to walk most of the time.
and i never thought i would be so so tired , i just feel so out of it ALL the time
i did a mini budget on how it would be ,like if i left at 34 weeks if we would have all the baby lay bys paid off by then and how much we would need each week and if my partners wage would cover it , which it would untill of course more money came in which we would need pretty soon but we would cope
and my Fiance is really pushing for me to leave as soon as i can as he see how hard this is on my body ggrrr , i didnt realise how hard it would be lol so thats a positive thing as well
its just all so hard to work out , i dont want to leave to early but then again i want to take into consideration if she is early and i have no time for rest and preparing the house for bubs to come home to
I left work at 38 weeks. I was tired at the end of each work day (as I did work 10 hour days in a very demanding job), but I was kinda glad I did stay at work, it does get very boring at home once you've finished off doing all of bubs stuff!
I had leave booked to take from 34 weeks, but ended going into labour at 32 weeks. Kept bub in for another 2 weeks and gave birth 1 day before offically starting my leave. I had enough sick leave accumulated to use for that fortnight. I think I will book leave for 34 weeks again, keeping fingures crossed I go further with this PG.
I work in an office sitting at the computer all day. I left at 36 weeks (it just coincided nicely with christmas) but worked from home right up to DS's due date. I found it really hard to sit at the computer for longer than about 10 minutes towards the end due to the pressure on my pelvis. When I have my next one I'll leave at 36 weeks again - no working from home!
I left at 30 weeks. Used 5 weeks of annual leave before maternity leave kicked in.
I'm a nurse & couldn't have worked any longer than that as I was on my feet 8.5 hours per day. I LOVED having 10 weeks at home, plus my DH took annual leave too so we some time together before DS was born (which was 3 days after EDD).
I'll be leaving work on the 28th of jan i'm due on the 30th of jan. I haven't been at my work a year yet and my one year anniversary is on the 27th of jan. if i last that long i'll be able to get 6 months half pay.
If not ill be going back to work really early as i need to pay the bills.
i planned on leaving at 34 weeks but due to an accident i had to leave at 22 weeks . I must say i do feel like a lady of leisure lucky for me i am in the banking industry and get 6 months at half pay. I do beleive everything happens for a reason though cause with all the time on my hands i have created my own party planning company and already have 4 demonstrators working for me. I dont plan on going back goodluck hun xx

Oh wow good for u!! iv been wanting to organise my own home small business ,but have been lacking motivation..but now i feel very motivated , so after bubs is born and settled i will def get it to it good for u...
I'm pretty sure that you just have to indicate to your employer when you plan to take your leave. Obviously, pg can't always be predicted and there needs to be flexibility. So don't feel like you'll be locking yourself into something. Just tell them what you plan to do, if things change, then update them.
I worked right up until the day before my due date - so to 40 weeks I was doing long hours but wasn't on my feet all day or anything. I have a great boss and prior to DS I loved my job. I decided that I wanted more time off after he was born than before. I knew I'd go nuts sitting at home for too long. As it turned out, I had a week and a half off as he was 11 days late.
It's really individual and lots of things (like finances, leave entitlements, how you're feeling now, how you'll feel in a few weeks time) will come into it.
I worked untill 38 & 1/2 weeks, I'm employeed as a florist and would generally spend long days on my feet.
Not having any option of paid leave I really needed to work for as long as possible. I was really nervous about how my body would handle working untill late in the pregnancy and was really scared about approaching my employers. However my employers were great, we sat down and I explained my need to work as long as possible and they tailored different jobs for me that meant I could spend the majority of my time at work off my feet. They were also really flexible with me cutting back my hours as needed.
