Dad2be just told me he has type 2 he doesn't need meds yet but is close to it, and he only just tells me how bad it is!! Anyways that's off topic..

Took us less than 2 months pretty much one cycle to fall and he was told he could never have kids due to a bike accident

Celtic - i don't think he'd be type 2 diabetes if his surviving without synthetic insulin...

    Thanks all.
DH doesnt need any medication at the moment, just to control his diet and monitor levels.
Thanks Celtic! Seeing that you are 18 weeks and falling so quick, it hasnt been a prob. Congrats!! Some research indicate that Diabetes, even Type 2 can cause fertility problems. We'll have to see how we go..

That is so strange! All of the diabetes type 2 in my family (there's a few of em).. all have a controlled diet and also need insulin 4 times a day!

ETA - I just googled it, lol - looks like i lucked out with family genes when it comes to diabetes... i've got the hard end of the bargin! Everyone in my family with diabetes are very small and inject insulin.. but the you can also be fat have diabetes and not need insulin... strange!

My DP has type 1 diabetes (and has had since he was 10) and we managed to conceive Aidyn ok... (he was unplanned!)

Catherine - that is strange! Are you sure they are not type 1? It is possible to develop type 1 later in life, although not very common. Type 2 is more related to lifestyle, and does not require insulin injections nearly as often.

Hmm... lol maybe i am confused! But i have always been told it was type 2.. i remember when i was a small child them telling me it was cow insulin and pig insulin.. then it changed to synthetic insulin! But no one in my family that has diabetes doesn't take insulin! We always had to eat dull food and always, ALWAYS the same thing! I might ring my mum tomorrow and ask.

prama - just to further answer to your question, When I talked to my GP about TTC #2 he did say in some cases diabetes can affect fertility, however there are so many other factors that need to be taken into account. Also depends on how well managed the diabetes is too I suppose.
I just did a search and found a study comparing spem from a diabetic and non-diabetic men. And there were no significant differences between the two (concentration, structure, output, motility), except for increased DNA damage in the diabetics sperm. The extent of this however is unclear, and they are not sure if it would have the same effect on fertility as something like smoking does.

Catherine - it sounds like type 1 to me... Type one is Juvenile/insulin dependent diabetes.

    Thanks Ambah.
DH has just been diagnosed and needs to manage his lifestyle. Also doesnt help that he had been smoking for 30yrs and finally quit in Jan (thanks Alan Carr!) He's also a bit overweight, and finally is going something abt it. (Men, I tell you!)
Even more, he has worked on projects on transmitter sites where there is a degree of exposure and microwave frequency radiation. A lot of men who work in this area do have low sperm counts and tend to have daughters.
I've had a uterus ultrasound (this for some other pain ive had) and it's clear.
We've talked that if we dont get pg this mth, DH will go get a SA.

Catherine, I too think it might be a type 1 in your family, if they have to take insulin. type-2 isnt insulin dependant.

    thanks guys
