How long do they generally last? I never had these before having Miss S and since shes been born i've had at least 3 REALLY bad ones like this (well I think it's what they are???) I have the worst headache, can't handle loud noises (AT ALL), my eyes hurt and ache, my neck is aching and I feel like vomiting not to mention light headed and feeling like i'm going to pass out at any min.
I've had some panadol (i'm BF) but it's doing NOTHING I've had warm showers, slept, stayed in my room with the lights off, drunk heaps of water but I can't seem to get rid of it. This is now day 3. I need to get rid of it, DH has to work tomorrow and I just can't cope with the girls on my own like this. I'm scared i'm going to pass out or drop Miss S or something horrible.
Obviously if i still have it tomorrow I will go to the dr but what are others peoples experiences of them?
Dp gets them and he previously treated them with panadien forte, but your bf so i have no clue lol, and panadol will never work. Advil, ibuprofen, antiflamatorys sp? will work better. I got them when i was preg, and i couldnt stand it and took normal panadiene. Hot and cold on your neck, or where it hurts the most. Dp's lasts about 2 days then has the hangover effect for day 3, then its gone :-)
I've had them since i was 16 and they can be horrific. everything you've described sounds like a migraine and for me the only treatment was strong painkillers (mersyndol forte is what i was given) and i used them during and after my pregnancy with DD (who was also ex bf). My migraines can last anywhere from 24 to 36 hours depending on the severity.
I'd try and get to a doc and get a script for some stronger pain meds. Panadol with do nothing to help the pain unfortunately
i am a chronic migrane sufferer
they got worse after i had DS2- and i was getting one at least twice a week there for a bit!!!
mine usually last anything from few hours to a few days- and then i have the hangover for the next day as well
i vomit, have an extreemely bad head pain, cant stand light and my whole body is like a ball of tightness, especially my neck.
great to have when you are looking after kids hey!
i am now on a preventative tablet that i take twice a day and it is safe when preggers and breastfeeding!! Its awesome- its a beta blocker - the one that i am on is called deralin. it doesnt stop my migranes but it stops the symptoms. Today i started to get a migrane, so i had the vagueness feeling a migrane brings, but no nausea and head pain was minimal. its strange!!
for me medication that i take when i have a migrane at the moment as i am still b/feeding are
panadeine, and if necessary an ibprofen as well
although ibprofen is best to stay away from when feeding, sometimes i have to - they say it hasnt been proven safe, but not proven unsafe!!
also voltaren works for me - it safe when b/feeding- i get bad neck pain and that is how my migranes start so if i can get rid of the neck pain when it starts, it can help!
migranes suck!! they are debilitating but for me a part of life
damm hormones!!
Migraines can sometimes be bought on or worsened by a lack of magnesium or salts in the body. Try taking magnesium tablets to help ward them off. Works wonders for some, not for others but its worth a shot
With the aching neck - have you considered going to a chiropractor?
I mostly get hideous migraines only when my neck goes out. It becomes stiff and it becomes difficult to move in certain directions. Since my arthritis flared up I'm very wary of chiropractic and have switched to bowen therapy. Unfortunately it can be hard to get in if you need urgent treatment.
I've had one since Friday night which is slowly getting better. I won't talk about how I'm medicating it - it's something that would leave most people incapacitated but with my arthritis I've built up quite a tolerance to codeine and can still function while taking it. And it's not something that would be safe to do while breastfeeding. But seriously, consider the chiropractic, or similar.
