I'm also compound heterozygous for MTHFR and have known for 6 months but have just started seeking support and researching a couple of weeks ago.
From my wide reading, folic acid is RUBBISH!
There's no excuse for any of us to be taking this synthetic form as those with MTHFR defects (estimated at least 20% of the Australian population) get sicker with it.
I don't get why women and especially those TTC are given folic acid when it can contribute to miscarriages and numerous other issues.
Folinic acid is much better to take for the general population and methyfolate for people with MTHFR genetic defects.
Most GP's haven't done the training to understated this defect and it affects everything from mental health, some cancers, pain, weight, brain fog to fibromyalgia and heart disease.
There are numerous websites with loads of info but the one I read the most is Dr Ben Lynch who's is an expert in this field.
I recommend everyone gets tested. Xx
