Questions about Clomid

Did your first round of clomid induce ovulation or are you just on the clomid to try & make your cycle more regular? I ended up doing 4 rounds of clomid but didn't ovulate for the first 3 of those, the first round I was on 50mg & that showed 0% progesterone on day 21 so obviously no ovulation & I went up to 75mg for the 2nd round & that was the same & the 3rd round I was on 150mg which showed a slight improvement so they put me on that amount for the 4th round too & I ended up getting pregnant. All of those rounds I also had to take provera to bring on a period as im not getting them on my own, I think I only had 2 in the last 12 months & there was no sign of ovulation in those. I think the doctors don't usually don't like to give provera after the 3rd round as it's a strong drug, but you are able to be on it for 6 months I think before they say you need to get off. Im really sorry to hear about the miscarriage, that must have been devastating & I think that's what im most in fear of is that I will lose this one. Im sure you guys will get pregnant soon, im a big fan of clomid as it has given me something i've wanted for a long time & wouldn't have without it & my best friend had the same result on her 3rd round of clomid. At least you know you can get pregnant & that there's nothing actually wrong, so try & relax as hard as that is because stress will make things worse, plus I have everything crossed for you guys! Have you thought of seeing a naturopath or accupuncturist because I still think that's what helped me get pregnant whilst on the clomid & they use both for IVF too so there has to be some benefit to it, even if it's just taking the stress off you?

Clomid didnt make me ovulate the 1st time around but i am hoping this one is going to work but if it doesnt well then we will just keep going. I am sure that everything will be fine and soon before you know it you will have a beautiful bundle of joy. I think when the docs prescribe clomid it gives you hope and strength that you will become pregnant. the miscarriage was something that made my husband and i closer but also a learning curve as well.... it was devastating but its something that i learnt to deal with and it will make this baby all the more special. Kell you have got nothing to worry about if you are doing everything right then you wont have a problem.
I am getting my periods every month that isnt a problem and nearly the same time every month...... but the problem is i am not getting pregnant. also my husband works arfternoon shift so we finding as much time as we can lol.... i send a big congratulations to your friend that has fallen pregnant i am hoping that now talking about it i will follow suit lol
i thought about acupunture and also the natropath and i thought at the moment i will try the clomid and see if that works and go from there. i think i would use acupuncture 1st though if you dont mind me asking what do they do at acupuncture for assisting with pregnancy?

So did they up your dose of clomid after the 1st round if it didn't work? If you decide to give natural therapy a go then you can actually search for an accupuncturist that specialises in fertility issues, they mostly work on stress points so it at least relieves the anxiety & stress related with what you are going through because it's a difficult process & we all need the help we can get I say. I swear by the benefits of accupuncture & also naturopathy as firstly i've never felt healthier in my life & the worry & stress seemed to ease dramatically after a month of treatment & they will work alongside the clomid so no need to worry about cutting out traditional medicine either & mine worked the very next month & I became pregnant! I found a clinic with all different therapies all in the one place which only dealt with fertility related services & I thought they were fantastic. Im hoping you are right & that I manage to hang onto this bub, I can't stand the thought of losing it after all we've gone through so im counting down the days now until im 12 weeks!

I started on just 50mg of clomid on days 2 - 6 of my cycle after a course of provera to bring on a period as I wasn't getting them & that cycle didn't induce ovulation so my dose of clomid was upped to just 75mg which also didn't work & then they increased it to 125mg which showed improvement so I stayed on that dose again & now im pregnant! Yeah I had to take pregnancy tests all the time too, I guess they do that to be certain that you aren't pregnant before they put you back on the clomid as it can hard a baby, but I do know how horrible it is to look at a negative test, even when you are pretty definate you aren't pregnant, there is still that hope in the back of your mind isn't there? Yes this will be my first child so it's all still quite surreal, I don't think I ever really thought it was going to happen to tell you the truth so im still trying to get my head around it! Im sure you will have great success with the clomid especially as you don't have anything physically wrong & the clomid has a really good success rate too, have you started taking your second round yet?

Usually you have to start clomid while you are on your period, but your doctor may have a reason for starting you on it anyway, maybe you should ask next time you see your doctor? Maybe your doctor thinks all you need is a little push & then your body will do it on it's own? I only had 2 periods in 12 months so I went onto provera to bring one on & then started clomid on day 2, but then I have pcos. As for your ovulation date, it all depends on what your cycle length is as to what day it happens, if you have a 28 day cycle then you ovulate on day 14, if you have a 30 day cycle you will ovulate on day 16 etc etc. Have you ever charted your BBT, because your temperature will pin point the date you ovulate also or you can get ovulation kits from the chemist which will give you the best 2 days for trying to get pregnant? I can't tell you about success on the first round as mine didn't work until after 4 rounds & I have a few friends who were on it & it took a few rounds for them as well. Don't get too dejected if it doesn't work first round as that is extremely common, i think more people don't have success first round but the success rates after that are great so good luck, it's all very exciting!

Yeah i sit there and time the length of the test down to last second just to get some sort of glimmer of hope that the 2 lines may come up.

Yep i have just finished my 2nd month of Clomid :pray: and just taking each day as it comes... do you think that by trying too hard it could reduce the chances of conceiving?
I had a better time with the clomid this time around than last time, last time i suffered from a bit of nausea but then this time around i didnt just hot flushes lol

I definately think stress plays a huge part in hampering us to conceive, whether that's from the worry we place on ourselves or focusing too hard on success & putting pressure on ourselves as well, which I why I think that natural therapies & things like accupuncture would be a good option for you, just to help you take the pressure off & de-stress. My clomid didn't make me ovulate after 3 rounds & then I started seeing a naturopath & an accupuncturist that specialise in fertility problems & after about a month the clomid had worked & I got pregnant that round so I think it played a massive part in me conceiving. Im not sure if your doctor recommended the best times for you guys to try too but my specialist told me that every 2nd day from day 12 to day 18 or 20 of my cycle was the best chance of conceiving & it also lessens the pressure for your partner too! I found that each round of clomid my symptoms lessened too so that's one plus for you, what day of your cycle are you on now? Have you ever tried charting your temperature or ovulation kits?

ok i got my period on the 19th Feb so i am up to day 10 ( if i am right). i havent tried charting my temprature but i think i might start doing that but then i dont want to seem like i am trying too hard

Hello everyone!

So took the first Clomid Pill last thurs night - all good. Now keeping in mind I havent had a period since nov last year AND the fact that the gyno did a hundred blood tests on me and all said i was not ovulating etc etc imagine my surprise when i awoke sun morning with MY PERIOD! WTF?! So thank God i had a brainwave and managed to get a call back from my gyno on a sunday who was on a golf course ha ha he said to stop taking the clomid wait til day 5 then start. (id already taken 3 tabs by this point)
So starting again this thursday! Can anyone explain why I got my period all of a sudden?!
It seems when I get on the road to getting it fixed i.e with the clomid something happens :doh:

I was dignosed with POS about a year ago and am now my husband and i are wanting a baby (been trying natualy for about 6 mths). My Dr has recommended Clomid. I have done some searching on the web about it and i am now more confused then ever:(. Does any one have any info or maybe just enlighten me on your experiances. I have also been seeing a nathropath to help reglulate my periods. I am just feeling a little lost at the moment and am longing for a baby. It is so hard to watch all your friends around you have babies. I havent started clomid yet but will be soon, any tips ????

I have just finished my 2nd dose of clomid trying to fall pregnant, i am on 50mg a day i find the best time to take it is right before you go to sleep. that way any side effects towards it you will sleep through it....I find Clomid really good it gives you the inspiration that you need to have a little bundle of joy.

Hey Coops, I know what you mean about the whole temperature thing, it's a win/lose situation I think, on the one hand it's great for pin pointing if the clomid is working & also a good gauge of whether you are pregnant or not & also can pin point your date of ovulation but on the other not so nice hand it does have a tendancy to make you over analyse it all & probably worry a little more! The accupuncture wasn't too bad, I think the first session was about $90 so not cheap but after that it was only about $60, if you have private health insurance you can claim some money back as well & it's well worth it as long as you research someone that specialises in fertility issues.

Im not sure about that to tell you the truth, my specialist told me to take it day 2 of my period through to day 6 of my period & my friend was on it from day 5 of her period for 5 days but I must say i've never heard of taking it after a period so maybe you should ask that question when you see the doc next because there may be a good reason why you need to take it after? Sorry that wasn't much help was it?

Hi Nicole, I agree with coops about taking the clomid at night, it definately lessened the symptoms for me as well. I know how you feel though as it's all very overwhelming at first but trust me when I say it's all worth it in the end. I have a lot of friends who have had to clomid & it's actually worked on all of them so it has a fantastic track record especially with pcos. I was diagnosed with pcos about 12 months ago as well & I felt like it was all a bit hopeless, at that stage we had been trying for 6 months only to find out I wasn't ovulating at all. All up it's been 18 months & i've had 4 rounds of clomid, each a bigger ammount than the last & just when I thought it wasn't going to work on the last round it did & I fell pregnant so it can definately turn out just as great for you as I have a bad case too. Im now 9 weeks pregnant on Sunday so fingers crossed, but talking to people in this thread with similar circumstances definately helped me get through it so I hope that you feel a little better? By the way I think the naturopath is a great idea, I was saying to coops last week that I also saw a naturopath & accupuncturist that specialise in fertility issues & I think that had a lot to do with the clomid working.

I am sure everything will go well for you its a very daunting experience to start but once you have started on clomid you will feel a little bit more relaxed to let the medication do what is meant to do.

I wish you all the best with it.also by seeing a natropath you are also helping the process along i havent been to see a natropath yet but as Kell advised me that it would be a good thing to do.

Nicole i know how you feel with having all these friends around with babies i have to keep apologising for sometimes being selfish with them lol just that the cluckiness gets to me sometimes lol.
But the more you inundate yourself with the bubbas is the more experience with them that you will receive that way you are fully experinced when your own little bundle of joy comes along. thats how i look at it.

Yes it's all very confusing at times isn't it, I assumed I was "o" too 7 don't know if I had for years, I think when you are on the pill too it masks so many problems & you have no idea of any issues until you come off! I will be definately keeping my fingers & toes crossed for you for Thursday & I hope all goes well & you get to start the clomid. I think once you are able to start the clomid it will be a little bit of a relief as you feel like you are doing something towards the problem, well that's how I felt about it, plus there are so many success stories about woman with pcos having healthy babies so try to keep that in your mind. That's the hardest bit about this whole process isn't it, all the waiting around, it feels like we always have to wait for something? I thought that would ease up a little once I actually fell pregnant but I can tell you that's not true, now im anxious as I really want to get past this first trimester hurdle, but if im honest I doubt it will ease up then either! Im doing ok, I really don't have many symptoms at all so I guess that's good, now im just counting down the days until I have my 12 week ultrasound which is on the 30th March so im 9 weeks 2 days today. I'll have everything crossed for you for the 20th then & let me know how you go?

the waiting is the hardest thing to go through its like life is teaching us to have patients, and sometimes the days feels like its going so slow but then other days feels like they are going really quick which is always a good thing. I hope the 12 week ultrasound goes well for you, just think soon enough you will be hearing that little heartbeat.
Thats fantastic that your not getting morning sickness or anything like that, thats the only part of the pregnancy i am not looking forward to is the sickness.but i have done some research and found there are some natural remedies for that.

I am so sorry to hear about you ending up in hospital last night the pain for you must be excruiating.
Our fingers are crossed for you as well and also our toes, it must be so frustrating for you to go through the waiting process.
Nicole that is what we are here for to chat and cry and just talk about what is going on and how we are dealing with the emotional rollercoaster.
I had a dream last night that was so real i woke up and had to check i dreamt that i gave birth to a 2 month old baby girl in my bathroom, then when i had to go to hospital they wouldnt let me take her with me. and kept her at a seperate hospital..... i am hoping that isnt a sign for anything.:pray:

I know what you mean about the whole waiting thing, I swear sometimes it feels like that's all we do is wait, whether that's for tests or results or appointments etc & it can be very frustrating so I really feel for you & we will keep our fingers & toes crossed for you! I am glad that talking to all of us gives you a little bit of relief, I can't tell you how much it helped me while I was going through the long process of trying to concieve, sometimes others in our lives don't totally understand what we are going through as they haven't been in this situation so it's always nice to hear from people with the same issues. I havent had a chance to get down to the doc as yet to have a chat with him about the days i should be taking them when he 1st perscribed me the Clomid he said the 1st day my period stops. I am getting really anxious about it :redface:
My husband is going through the same thoughts as to why it hasnt happened yet.... what makes a difference is that he works arvo shift and i work days so the time factor is a bit of a problem. but we are trying to work through that part :crossfingers:
The only side effect i am having from it is a bit of bloating but other than that anything else i am sleeping through it.
Did you have side effects from taking it?

You poor thing, I hate feeling anxious like that. Can you maybe give your doctor a call & leave a message with the receptionist & just tell them you are really anxious about it & could he call you back asap, that's what id do because I don't think I could stand the wait, but then im rather impatient too! Maybe you should have a look on the internet to find some info regarding clomid & how it's usually taken & if you still feel really uncomfortable about when you were told to take it & they don't give you a good reason for why they recommended that then id change days. My doctor said that most doctors tell patients to start on either day 2 of your period for 5 days or day 5 of your period for 5 days, so it's definately a valid question you are asking? Maybe check the info in the clomid pack because your chemist should probably print you out some information when getting it because of what it is & that may say what days? How are you coping with your husband on the arvo shift, not only is that difficult for you to find time to try for a baby but also it must be difficult being on your own a lot because we tend to stew on these types of things when we can't talk to our partners so that must be hard for you guys? No I didn't have too many side effects either really, just bloating like you & also hot flushes & a bit of dizziness but it got better with each round of the clomid too which was great. Let me know how you go?

Yeah i am not the most patient person there is :lol: so all this waiting is killing me but i know it is going to be worth it in the end. well i am going to ring the chemist and see what he says and then i will ask the doc that way i will have 2 seperate opionons. I am so happy for you that things are going well for you though. It must be a great feeling being pregnant.
I dont cope really well with hubby being on arvo shift and finding time to try for a bub is really putting a strain on my emotions but i get through it. I know that doing arvo shift is for our future but sometimes i really depise the arvo shift. but i have taken up a hobby to keep my mind off it and some thursday nights i go grocery shopping so spending money makes me feel a bit better :dance:

Oh dont ya just love those hot flushes???? especially when you are sitting there in a room with people and you need to go outside for some fresh air. and everybody cant feel the same as what you are feeling.I usually get weird looks when i am sitting outside in a sweat and everybody is sitting there with a jacket on. I didnt get the dizziness with it... i will keep you posted with everything though

You're right it definately is all worth it in the end, although at times the waiting can be agonising so you are doing the right thing by distracting yourself with a new hobby & of course the shopping always helps too,hehe! I think it's a great idea that you are going to ask your chemist about the clomid, at least that way you get another opinion, it can't hurt can it? My husband also used to do night shift & I feel for you because I must admit I hated it as well, when we first got together we were both doing shift work and that's fine but if only one is doing it then it's really difficult & it must be even harder for you guys as you are also trying for a bub. Could you guys maybe take a weekend off or a few days during the week & just get away somewhere & enjoy each others company & relax because you sound like you need a break? Yes I agree the hot flushes were the worst, I found it really strange because im always cold & suddenly I found myself in a hot sweat all the time but hopefully that eases up for you soon. Yes it's a great feeling knowing im pregnant but i really didn't think id be this nervous about it all, it's just always in the back of your mind what the risks are & I think I feel that worse because it's taken so long to get to this stage & I couldn't stand the thought of losing it now which is why I haven't really told anyone yet. I think ill wait until i've had the 12 week scan to make sure everything is ok, although that feels like it will never come! Im only 10 weeks on Sunday & my 12 week scan is booked for the 30th.

Things go through my head wondering if its because of him doing shift work why its not working or we are not doing it enough i dont know today i am having one of those days where i am thinking too much:wall:. I am calling the chemist tonight and having a chat with them about the Clomid and when i should be taking it cause surely i am taking it wrong.
Kell i would love to take a weekend away somewhere but so much is going on we usually go down to our caravan down the south coast every couple of months usually that helps me to relax cause there is no phones lol.

I know how you are feeling, I have those days all the time, actually these days I think I have more days like that than normal ones, especially if I have time on my hands! I think asking is a good thing, they may have a perfectly good reason as to why you are taking it on those days, for example if your period is only short & lasts 4 or so days then really you are taking it on day 5 which is the day a lot of doctors recommend taking it. I think the two days my doc said most will tell you to start on is day 2 of your period & day 5 of your period, even if your period stops at 4 days if you get what im trying to say? I think if you guys are trying every second day over the period that you would normally ovulate then you are doing the right thing, there's not much else you can do on your side really which is the frustrating part, it's really in the hands of the doctors & the medication, although doing something to help relieve your worry & stress will help a lot? I really am sure that everything will work out great for you guys & im sure you will be pregnant soon & this will all seem like a dream! Im doing ok, im feeling quite anxious now about my 12 week scan, I just really want to know that the baby is ok because I feel I need to know that before I tell anyone our news. I just had the maternal serum test on Monday which gets sent to The Childrens Hospital & they check if you have an increased risk of having a child with defects like Down Syndrome etc & they use that in conjunction with the ultrasound to work out if the chances are high for a healthy bub. Other than that not much news really, starting to get a tummy though! So the 20th is the date you are waiting on right, only 2 days now!

I will call them tonight and let you know for sure my periods only last 4 days day 2 being my worst day. its like that isnt when you have time on your hands so many things go through your mind and then you lose all track of what you were doing lol.
You are right it is so frustrating knowing that the result of being pregnant is so near yet so far.:pray:
When we first started trying i was soooo anxious and impatient for it to happen that every month i was disappointed to see the signs that i wasnt (if you know what i mean) then as the time has gone on i have settled down a bit more and i get disappointed but i dont beat myself up about it as much and realise that things will happen.Thanks mate i am sure everything will work out as well and i will be a bubbly mum soon.
You must be bursting at the seams to tell everybody your good news, but its a good thing you are waiting until you have the all clear to tell everybody. oh how cute you are starting to get a little tummy oh my gosh that is so cute. are you going to take pics of your monthly change in your tummy?

Next time you go to the chemist you should pick up an ovulation thermometer, they are only about $20 or less & you can take your temp orally each morning before you get out of bed & that way you will know straight away if you are ovulating or not, it's how I knew when my clomid had finally worked. Your temp should drop approx 0.2 degrees or slightly more on the day of ovulation & then it rises approx 0.40 degrees + the very next day. I found this great because im not really good on the whole patience thing, hehe & this way I didn't even need my blood results back as I just knew I had. I didn't think it would be something easy to detect when I first started taking my temp because it was always approx the same each day with no significant rises or drops & that was obviously because I wasn't ovulating at all, but when I did I definately could see the drop on the day & a significant rise & then of course it's stayed higher so I knew I was pregnant, it might be something to consider? I think that's the worst part of all of this is the fact that you try for the month & it's not successfull & then you have to wait another whole month to try again so i know how frustrated you must be you poor thing:doh: Can you believe I haven't even told my hubby yet, that sounds awfull doesn't it but I asked him quite a few times whilst TTC & he said not to tell him until he was allowed to tell others as he'd be sooo excited that he couldn't help himself, so it's been really difficult to keep a secret & i've had to make do with telling my Mum & Sister who've been great. I am going to tell him on Saturday night though as it will be 11 weeks then & we are staying in a nice hotel in the city for our anniversary so I thought it would be nice to tell him there & that way he only has to keep quiet for just over a week until we have the scan, hehe. I will be keeping my fingers & toes crossed for you over the next few days, although im sure it's not far away for you guys! :pink-babydust:
