Questions about Clomid

Hello my fellow clomid friends,

Just thought i would update you all on my progress. Well i got my period on Wednesday which is fantastic i went and seen my Dr today (thursday) and he has started me on Clomid straight away 50mg so i am abit excited but trying not to get my hopes up as he told me it could take any where between 3 to 6 mths to fall. But to tell you the truth i am feeling very positive about this. So he had told me to start this clomid today being the 2nd day of my period so fingers crossed :crossfingers:. I was a little bit scared to take it as i was abit nervous about the side affects, but i took it anyway so lets hope i dont get any side affects, my dr told me to take it at night so it i would sleep through what ever side affects i might get, so we will just see what happens. I feel so good about finally starting on clomid we are going to get this baby we have longed for so long i can feel it :).

Kell i cant believe u havent told your husband yet i think mine would almost kill me if i kept it from him. I just couldnt i would be to excited i think everyone would know :) I am very happy 4 you though you are a better secret keeper than me lol . Oh i was going o ask you how many round of clomid did it tak you to fall ??? I cant wait to hear about your 12 week scan :)

Coops i am can relate to how u are feeling i know it will happen for you very soon i know ppl keep saying that but you and your husband have to sty positive , i know that doesnt reallly help but i know how you feel and i know how hard it had been for us . I am new to this so I apologise now if I get it wrong!
My doctor has prescibed provera and clomid after coming off the pill last May... and nothing! I am now patiently awaiting the arrival of AF (finished 1st round of provera on Tuesday night) and will start taking clomid on day 3 for 5 days. The doc has prescribed 25mg for the first round, which, from what I can see, seems a bit low!
Any advice for a newbie in this - I am so excited about finally starting the journey, but quietly nervous too!

Welcome , i am new to this too :) The 25mg that ur dr has prescribed is probly right for you do you have any medical conditions like PCOS . That is wat i have and i think my dr has put me on 50mg because of that. I have bee trying since nov 07 and this is my first round of clomid, so we are all in this together. If you are unsure i recomend you call your dr and ask just to be sure.

Congratulations on finally getting to start on the clomid, I must say I felt relieved after I started too as it at least feels like you are doing something towards getting getting pregnant rather than just sitting around waiting for something to happen. you definately have a great attitude & I truly believe that can make all the difference to your success so keep that up as hard as it gets at times. I was TTC for approx 18 months without medication until I found out I had pcos like you & that I had not ovulated at all in a very long time, if ever so I started on provera to bring on a period & then clomid on day 2 like you are now. In all I did 4 rounds of clomid, the first one at 50mg, but no ovulation, then the 2nd at 75mg & again no ovulation, the 3rd round on 100mg which also didn't work but did show a sign of improvement in my progesterone levels so I did a 4th round on 125mg a day & fell pregnant, so it goes to show you that even when things look like they aren't working it can all suddenly happen so stay strong & positive like you are as clomid has fabulous success rates in pcos patients! Yeah I can't believe I haven't told him either, I only haven't because I really didn't want anyone to know I was pregnant until id had my scan & he said not to tell him until he was allowed to tell, hehe he's hopeless. I am telling him on Saturday night though, we are staying at a nice hotel in the city for our anniversary so thought it would be nice to tell him there & plus that way he only has to keep it secret for 10 days or so. I did tell my Mum & Sister though as I had to tell someone & I must say im getting a bit anxious about telling people because it's getting harder to keep it a secret, but feel I need to do the scan first, fingers crossed that all is ok with the bub? Welcome firstly, I hope some of us are able to help you through this difficult period. Id say your doctor is being very cautious putting you on 25mg, especially if you don't have a diagnosed condition or anything. Clomid is a very strong drug & some people also suffer from side effects so he's probably wanting to see how you go first round before they increase the dose, plus you may only need a slight push to make your body start regulating itself which is the point of the clomid. Im sure the other girls agree with me when I suggest that you should maybe start taking the clomid at night or at dinner time as I think you'll find that you sleep through most of the side effects & won't have anything as severe as what you may during the day. Keep in touch & let us know how you are going on the clomid and provera, we will all keep our fingers crossed for you.:crossfingers:

I am going to buy a thermometer this weekend and start measuring my temprature, i think that is another postive step towards falling pregnant.... ok it seems easier enough to take the temprature and everything like that so i will give it a go.

Kell i cant believe you are hiding your excitement that well from your husband lol that is so good you are a better person than me i wouldve walked out and told mine straight away :lol: but if he wants to be a suprise than you can understand why he doesnt want to know just yet. Not long to go now till the scan... everything will be fine but definately keep us up to date how you go.

Ooh how exciting it's the 20th coops!!!! Everything's crossed:crossfingers:. I really think a thermometer is a good idea, especially if you are impatient like me & can't stand wating until you have your blood tests, although you have to promise me not to over analyse the results otherwise you stress more than you have to, hehe. I know I can't believe i've kept it a secret either, I found out the day my period was due at 4 weeks & im 11 weeks this Sunday so 7 weeks of silence, it's been agony though!!! It's quite funny but he said he couldn't keep the news to himself so if I told him he'd be too excited not to tell everyone else so ill have to make him keep a secret until after the scan on the 30th & hopefully he can do that as it's only about 9 days away from when I tell him? It will be nice though to not have to keep the secret any longer as im almost out of excuses!

Yep its the 20th and still nothing but i am not getting my hopes up as it could be shattered as soon as i do but fingers are crossed :pray:.... I promise i wont over analyse the temprature i will just take it and see how i go.
is there any special time of the month that i should start taking my temprature?

Kell i am so proud of you that you have kept it a secret this long and to tell him on your annaversary its going to be so special.
I could only imagine what it would be like making up excuses everyday :lol:

I guess you can start taking your temp at any time really, if you are going to actually chart it then it's probably best to start on the first day of your period but it really doesn't matter, you can get the temp charts off the internet & the chart will just make it easier to see a pattern that's all. If you look up body basal temperature on google then there will be quite a few websites where you can print off the chart. Well I finally told the hubby, he actually was so shocked he didn't believe me for the first ten minutes, it was quite funny but im really glad I have finally told him as it will be a little easier on me with him knowing, i've just got to hope he can manage to keep the secret:pray:! My scan just can't come quick enough now as im definately getting an obvious pot belly & it's getting harder to hide it, im finding it more difficult because I had a reasonably flat stomach too so it seems to be more obvious & my jeans etc don't feel comfortable anymore so it will be nice just to have it out in the open, hehe. Oh well only 1 weeks to go I guess. Any more news with you?

My news is i was running 2 days late for my period so i was hoping with all i had that this was going to be it but then yesterday (Sunday) i got my period :doh: so it looks like the journey begins all over again but thats ok.

Im so sorry coops, I know it's really hard sometimes to keep starting over again but you have a great attitude & im certain it won't be long for you guys, im sending you out a big hug :hug:! By the way, did you ever end up managing to get some more information regarding taking your clomid? Yeah it definately feels better now being able to talk to my hubby about it, I think that's been a really difficult part of all this for me is not being able to discuss things with him but he knows now so that's a good thing & he only has to keep quiet until next Monday at least, although he keeps asking me what day he's allowed to tell everyone, hehe. just an update, been taking the clomid for five days now fingers crossed it is working. Havent really had any side effects except abit of bloating and ovary pain which is good guess. I am so excited about this. Kell i am pleased you told your husband he must be over the moon. Coops abit sad that no luck this month but my fingers are crossed for next month.

Yep but its all good we have next month i have started watching what i eat so i am trying to eat a little bit healthier hoping that might help things along i am going to buy a thermometer this weekend and start charting. The chemist believes i should be taking it day 1 of not having a period i dont believe him so i am going to the Doc and asking again when should i be taking this..

Yep my 12 week scan is on Monday, im really looking forward to it & think it will put my mind at rest a little once I see the bub, im just hoping that all goes smoothly :pray:! Im actually looking forward to also being able to be honest with people & have them know im pregnant because it's getting harder & harder to make excuses, plus there is some close friends & family that i really want to tell as I know they will be wrapt for us. Your being sooo good eating healthy, im startving all the time which isn't great. I was quite a small person before I got pregnant, ate really well & went to the gym 5 days a week & now I feel like I can't stop eating & i've put on a couple of kilo's which I think makes me feel a bit yuk but guess I have to get used to it, hehe. So when will you start your clomid this round, you have your period now right?

Im glad that all seems to be going well with the clomid so far, it's great that you aren't suffering much from side effects! Im hoping that everything goes really well for you, not long to wait now until you hear some news, make sure you let us know how you go as we will be thinking of you? Yeah it's great that my hubby knows now, it's just nice to be able to chat about it & also to get excited with someone because I felt like I couldn't get excited before.

Well my period stopped yesterday so i took my 1st clomid yesterday and for the next 2 weeks i have a late shift at work so heres hoping staying up late waiting for hubby is going to work :pray:

Yeah not long to go now coops, getting very anxious now actually & have actually thought of trying to change it to tomorrow but I think it may be too early, hehe! My hubby is hopeless, he keeps making little remarks thinking that no one will understand it but it's really obvious, god I hope he can hold off until Monday! Actually one of my friends told me last night that she's pregnant, she's 7 weeks & they are going to announce it at her hubby's 30th on Saturday night even though it's early days, im happy for them but now my news won't be as exciting for some because we'll be telling them 2 days after her, oh well I guess that's what I get for not wanting to tell until 12 weeks I suppose. I probably sound like a horrible person by saying that? Ooh it's all very exciting now you are back on the clomid, & working the afternoon shift must be much easier for you & your hubby to see each other so that's a plus. Do you guys finish around the same time at night? So did you end up buying a thermometer?

Well i am of for my follow up ultrasound tomorrow. I am abit excited cause the dr recons he will be able to tell if i have 'o', which i still dont understand how.lol I am hoping my cyst has gone. I am really hoping the clomid has worked i kind have a feeling it has but it could just be wishfull thinking :) .

Usually when you have the feeling that it's worked then it usually has because our gut tells us the truth most times! I remember being quite cynical about my rounds of clomid & I just knew they hadn't worked but I also had a feeling it had on the last round & I was right so I hope it's the same for you. How exciting that you get to find out today if you have "O", make sure you let us know how you went. Yeah they can tell from an ultrasound, actually I was amazed by what they could tell me in my early ultrasound at 6 weeks, but they could tell me what ovary dropped the egg & they showed me the follicle that got me pregnant etc so it's pretty amazing. I think they will be able to see if your follicles have dropped which is what happens in ovulation so im very excited for you!

I must admit i am like you everytime i start to take the clomid my hopes get so high that this month they will work but then when it doesnt i just think oh well there is always next month :doh:

Buying a thermometer is also going to help me track it when its the right time to try... but hey we are all destined to be mums and its going to happen for us.

Well i had my ultasound today and it showed that my BIG cyst has gone but because of the poly cystic they couldnt tell if either of the folicals where the dominant ones. So i guess there is some good new LOL. I also saw my Dr today and he has aranged a blood test for two weeks to check my hormone levels but he said to DO IT for the next 4 to five days incase it has worked. LOL so guess what i will be doing tonight LOL i am so confussed about the science behind having a baby the Dr just went on and on about it today when i walked out of there i was so frusrated and confussed :(. I guess u shouldnt think about it to much aaahhh but its hard not to hehehe . Well my fingers are crossed .

Well that's great news about the cyst, I bet you were really happy about that? Pity they weren't able to give you an idea about the "o" situation, that must be frustrating. I totally understand your confusion because it can get really hard to grasp at times, it's strange because so many people don't have to worry about all of this stuff we have to go through & learn & it can get really annoying when we have to take sooooo many things into consideration! I think sometimes it's easier to concentrate on just taking the clomid when the doctor tells us & then trying on the days they recommend & that's all because I think sometimes we over analyse things too much & put too much emphasis on them & we should be keeping it simple. I think I had a hard time not focussing on all the science when I first went through with all this but found that when I let go of all that as my doctor recommended then things were much easier. Hope it all works out for you guys Nicole, keep us up to date?

Well i bought a thermometer over the weekend.... you guys will laugh the only one i could get and that was available was a Mickey Mouse thermometer :doh: i asked the chemist and he said that it would still do the same job as a normal ovulation one. My hubby looked at me then looked at the thermometer and started laughing then he realised what it was for and seemed really happy.

I started charting my temprature since Sunday and so far it has remained the same it goes up by .1 but then comes back down again.

Godd to hear from you, I had to laugh when you mentioned your Mickey Mouse thermometer, hehe oh well as long as it does the job huh? :lol: What day of your cycle are you on now coops? Yes my scan on Monday went great, I was so relieved:dance:. I must say though that it was the best day of my life so far, it was incredible so everything you guys are going through is definately worth it in the end that's for sure. It's quite incredible what you get to see that early, but it's very clear & looks like a little baby already, they show you the heartbeat & you get to hear it & that was 167 beats per minute & they show you the brain, the heart, the hands & feet & all the bones & kidneys etc & at times it feels very surreal, im still pinching myself! I won't bore you guys any further, im just rambling now, hehe. Let me know how you are going?

Hello all! I have had a great time reading your posts this morning. I have been reading posts for some time with all the internet searches I have been doing, but I have been hesitant to join one because I don't want to become completely engrossed in this process, and I don't want to become obsessive. However, after reading through these posts I feel like this would be a good one to join just for the support from others!! So, here is my story:

I am 25 and have been TTC since July. I went off the pill then (after 10 years of being on it!), and my husband and I just decided to see how things progressed. No AF for the first three months off the pill so my Dr prescribed provera. This did induce periods; however, she didn't think I was ovulating still, so we decided to try Clomid.

I finished my first round of 100mg of Clomid on April 3 (horrible hot flashes that I'm still getting, and I would cry at the drop of a hat with both the provera and clomid!), and am now waiting. I have been doing temp charting and also attempting to keep track of my CM. Right now I am on CD11. I was told, and have read, that most women ovulate 5-9 days after the last clomid pill; however, I am wondering if it's possible to ovulate earlier. I took an OPK on Saturday and it was +. I got so excited, but then realized that the Clomid was likely having an effect. I did some research and found that I shouldn't start OPK until Monday. I took one yesterday and it was + again. Also, on both Sunday and Monday I noticed my CM was VERY MUCH like an eggwhite. This might be TMI, but when I went to the restroom I noticed that it was clear and stretched all the way to the water in the toilet!! :redface:

My temps are usually around 97.5-97.7F, but yesterday it dipped to 96.8, then this morning back up to 97.7. So I am thinking I ovulated yesterday (CD10), but is it possible to ovulate that quickly after clomid? That would be 3 days after the last dose...

I go to my doctor on Thursday for an ultrasound, and will be interested to see what she has to say. My husband and I have BDed everyday since Saturday, and I cannot help but get my hopes up that I am ovulating, and that I will be a lucky one and fall preg on the first round....this is stressful, and I'm trying to not let it consume, and I don't want to set myself up for disappointment.

Firstly welcome to our thread, hopefully you can get as much out of this as I did as it really does make it easier to deal with once you start talking to people who have shared the same experiences as you. Well it certainly sounds like you have ovulated to me, that's soooo exciting as has taken a long time for most of us in this thread to get that far. All the signs are there that's for sure & all of that happened for me when it finally worked so id say you definately have, with the drop in temp & then the rise & the egg white "cm", it looks very promising. Have you been charting your temperature still since then because that will probably tell you if you have "o" too as it should stay higher until the day before or the day of your period if you have, that is if you aren't pregnant, in which case it would stay high past then? What day did the doctor ask you to start taking the clomid because that may make a difference to when you "O" & also it may have something to do with the dose they gave you as it's quite high for your first round so maybe it's really stimulated your ovaries more than a lower does would, hence why it's earlier because a lot of people start on 50mg a day. I would stress too much over it though, you should be wrapt that it worked because that is a great sign & mention it to your doctor as they may have a better answer for you. I have a very good feeling though that you guys are well on your way & that clomid may be just the push you guys need, like it was for me. I fell pregnant on my 4th round of clomid after almost 18 month "TTC" & now im 13 weeks & 4 days along, so hopefully the same happens for you. I've visited this site about a million times, and I finally decided to join after spending a few hoursreading this great forum thread! I never imagined there were so many people out there on the "clomid journey" as my Hubby and I call it...

Here's our family building story so far;
Miscarraige in early 03, then no periods for 15 months. Was referred for fertility help in late 04 and started clomid (and promulat) in March 05. After 9 cycles (our last cycle before IVF, thank goodness), we got pregnant with Bouncing baby boy Xavier, born Sep 06.
Started trying for #2 July 08 and still no bubs, so we begin the whole saga again! Am more savvy this time with my body and cycle, so hopefully will find success a little quicker...but I'll just be glad to get there eventually.

It's been very inspiring reading about all of your wonderful stories, and I can only hope that we are ALL blessed with the pitter patter of a new set of tiny feet.

So, if you'll have me, I hope I can share your stories,

Kell - Thank you for such a nice reply. I did the clomid days 3-7, and I didn't know until I started reading these forums that most people start on 50mg. I suppose my Dr just decided to skip that step...she didn't say, and I didn't question.

I have been charting my temperatures and here is what's happening:
Monday 96.8 (dropped from the usual 97.5-97.7)
Tuesday 97.7
Wednesday 97.5
Thursday 97.5

I do have to say that I'm not very good at taking it at the same time every morning so it's usually somewhere between 7 and 8:30am. I haven't noticed anymore CM and my OPKs were - both Tuesday and Wednesday....

So I go to the Dr. this afternoon for an Ultrasound, and I will definitely update you all on how it goes...

My Dr. seems to think that I will ovulate in the next few days because my largest follicle was 17mm which apparently means I should ovulate soon...anyway I guess I just wait and see at this point....

My husband and I will have to continue to try for the next few days to be sure that I hit my ovulation time. My Dr. said to wait until day 32, and if no AF then test, and if AF appears to call her and let her know...so now I'm in the waiting game....today is day 13, day 32 seems years away!!! But at least it looks like I'm on the right track to ovulate!!

Has anyone else taken Primolut to induce period? How long after you stopped taking them does period arrive? Took 2 tablets every day for 5 days, and it's been 3 days since I took the last one, I can't remember how long it took last time to work. Am anxious to start Clomid!:wall:

Well i had a blood test on thursday and am very anxious to get the results :). I think i "O" as i had quite a few signs eg egg white "cm". I have been pretty tired the past few weeks i am not sure why has anyone else been tired while taking clomid?? i am not sure if the symptoms last the whole cycle or just the 5 days you take it ??? Ah abit confused. i should be due my period around th 18th/april so we will just have to see what happens fingers crossed.

Ooh how exciting, I have a very good feeling about all this for you & usually when your gut reaction tells you it's worked then it usually has so I really hope you have success! So when do you get the results back from your blood test, please let us know how you go? As for the tiredness on clomid, im not sure about anyone else but I was extremely tired on clomid & afterwards, actually more so after I stopped taking it. Im not sure why but it's probably due to all the extra progesterone in the blood because when you don't get periods you don't have high levels of progesterone or ovulate usually so the tiredness is probably a great sign that you have "O" this time around because I wasn't really tired on my first few rounds of clomid but definately was on the last & it worked! Sending you out lots of babydust. :pink-babydust:

Well that sounds quite exciting that things seem to be happening for you Stejen, have you noticed a temp difference over the last few days seeing as though they said you have a folicle ready to drop? I think it's a great start too knowing that at least you are producing egg folicles because that's one step out of the way, now you have to wait until it drops! I know what you mean about waiting until day 32, it seems agonising doesn't it & I think that's the worst part of this whole process is all the waiting around you will do but believe me if it comes back that you have "O" then the wait will fade into insignificance & it's all worth it in the end! Has anyone else taken Primolut to induce period? How long after you stopped taking them does period arrive? Took 2 tablets every day for 5 days, and it's been 3 days since I took the last one, I can't remember how long it took last time to work. Am anxious to start Clomid!:wall:

Welcome Becnxavi, I hope we can all help to make this journey a little easier for you? I can't say i've even taken primolut to bring a period on, I was always on provera to do that & that would bring it on about 4 days after I finished taking the weeks worth of tablets so im not sure if primolut works in the same way? If you don't mind me asking what dose of clomid do they have you on & on what day did they ask you to start? Please keep us up to date on your progress & we will all have our fingers & toes crossed for you? :crossfingers:

The good news is AF arrived today, so I'm officially Day 1 of my first cycle in 16 months! To answer your question, I'm on 50mg clomid from day 5-9, so bring on Saturday! Will have U/S next week to see whether it's worked or up the dose to 100mg. I'm feeling very positive at the moment, but we'll see if that lasts!

called the dr today to get my blood results and unfortunatly didnt "o" which i am so suprised about as i was so sure i did but i guess blood never lies hey . So heres hope next month is my month.

I bought a thermometer today so i am going to try tracking my temp this month and see how i go.

Im so sorry Nic, i must say though that you have a great attitude towards it all & just remember that I was on clomid for at least 4 rounds before it worked for me & in that same round I fell pregnant so you certainly have lots more chances. I think taking your temp will be a good thing, I found that it gave me great indication of what was going on & was very obvious to see on the chart when I had ovulated, as long as you don't analyse it too much. Have they increased your dose of clomid this round?
