Has anyone out there got uterine fibroid/s that started degenerating and caused a miscarriage ? I was almost 21 weeks pregnant when my big fibroid started degenerating ( dying ) and I started having contractions which led to full blown labour.
My fibroid grew with IVF drugs and then the actual pregnancy hormones.
I now have an option of blocking the arteries in the fibroid to make it shrink or cut it out completely. I'd like to try again to get pregnant but I'd like to know if anyone out there has had to have a fibroid removed or embolized ( I think that's how you spell it - that's blocking the arteries done by a radiologist ), and if so, was pregnancy difficult after that ?
So sorry to hear of the loss of your little Joshua .
I can't give you many details, but a former colleague of mine had a large fibroid in her uterus which was causing her probs conceiving a second child. I recall her saying she was adamant in telling her surgeon to "retain her fertility" - as the surgeon initially wanted to do a hysterectomy (spell?). So they removed the fibroid but kept the uterus/reproductive bits n pieces intact.
Anyway, the fibroid was successfully removed and within two years she gave birth to a healthy baby girl, conceived via IVF.
Thanks so much for your reply and your kind words. Losing Joshua was the most devastating experience I've ever had, but I want to try again eventually as I would love to raise a child ( or two, depending how lucky I am ! ).
My OB suggested an operation where he will remove my fibroid, but only when it's shrunk to a smaller size and hence he suggested that I look into blocking the blood supply first. I just keep reading about how the blocking of the blood supply to the fibroid ( it's called embolization ) is not usually recommended to women wanting to have children.
I feel a bit more positive now about the removal of the fibroid after your friend went to have a successful pregnancy. IVF is our only option as my partner had a versectomy reversal last year which was a failure, so his sperm count is extremely low.
We were so excited to get pregnant with Joshua on our very first fresh cycle, and have one frozen blast ready to go.
Thanks again for your reply, there doesn't seem to be many girls with troublesome fibroids around at the moment ! ( Lucky me, hey ?? )
