My copy is the 1987 illustrated edition. The dust jacket says it is up to the reader to decide.
On a side note it was a gift for my 18th and my mum has my birthday wrong
ETA: Mine stops at chapter 17 (viking), looks as though chapter 18 was added after this edition (Angust and Robertson)
