I'm starting a thread on Mirena, wondering if I should get it (rather not hijack). How are you feeling now? Just wondering if things have settled down for you.
I have had the marina since august 2008 to start with i couldn't sit down because off the pain and was constantly bleeding so went back to have it removed and he done a ultrasound to see if it moved and noticed i had a slight infection so gave me antibiotics and the next day after starting the antibiotics i stopped bleeding and the severe pain went. i still have the merina in and i get a constant back ache(its more annoying then anything) AF is lighter but lasts longer, i look like in 9 months pregnant i have been asked by quite a few people if i am(DH has even got me to keep a supply off pregnancy tests) i have put on weight and i get aches on my left side when AF is due my hands and feet are swollen all the time(dont know if that's a side effect or the heat) i cant even wear my wedding rings, but it is the only contraception i can use Ive tried most off the others but get migraines or constant bleeding

i was told it shouldnt hurt, id ring your gyno clinic where you had it inserted and tell them what is going on, i only had the mirena inserted and had to go back 4 weeks after as i wasnt feeling right and in alot off pain, i ended up having an infection, the only thing is if they want to see you, you will have to pay the gyno fees again, mine was a bit extra as they done a ultrasound and found the infection. ut if you ring the gyno clinic they will tell you what to do... hope that helps... Nikki
Im in the uk and had mine inserted under general as has a d&c and biopsy as the same time.
il ring the hospital i think as its not getting easier..i did mention to my dp about infection that i thought i might have one as iam running a temperature.
its sooo painful.

I stopped using hormonal birth control about 12 years ago - because the pill, any pill - made me completely psycho. Also had major skin problems that I never had before or since. Was told by my GP that it was all unrelated, it was great etc etc. Then I was changed onto one that gave me all the above AND debilitating migraines. OMG they were the most painful thing ever and I had to go to the ER to have that migraine drug to get rid of them.
After that happened a few times I threw the pills in the bin and started using a natural method.
So many women have stories like this about hormonal BC, I'm so sorry you're going through this but know you're not alone and you're definitely not crazy. Get that thing out now![]()
natansey - thank you soo much huni for your advice you where right it is a infection and the doc said its a severe one from the pain etc - im on antibiotics but if i get any worse iv got to go straight to hospital.

geez. All you poor ladies.
I've had mine inserted in June after my m/c and it does wonders. My periods are great. I only use pantyliners for a 1-2 days and it's over. My weight goes up and down, but that always has (i have weight issues). I can be moody, but that's probably normal.
I guess it doesn't agree with everybody. I wish all of you quick and fast answers and a speedy recovery to those who are suffering from it.
xxoo
scary stuff - I have had my in now since August and everything seems ok - I have notice an increase in ance but not to an annoying level, and a slight increase in weight but also normal as I gave had to stop b/f about 3 months after having it inserted. ATM though having a slight creamy discharge, kinda like ovulation discharge which i have never notice b4.... got me kinda freaking out - as we are so not ready for another baby yet. Is this normal...? am I freaking for all the wrong reasons..??
The real thing I am scared about is that I didn't have a 6wk checkup after the insertion... forgot totally, DH says he has never felt it and I can't say I have tried to feel it.... My ob did an ultrasound at insertion and all was good. I had spotting for the first couple of weeks and only two little spotting "session" (couple of days long) since, which have both been in periods of high high high stress (xmas!) I have not had "regular" periods or periods at all really.
I am going to book a dr appointment to have it checked, but reading all these stories about other people dislike of it is kind of worring.
reading the thread is like a lightbulb has gone off in my head,
I am in shock seriously,
I had mine put in Oct 07 had periods and spotting for almost a year after,
-have major migrane headaches,
-severe back aches,
-joint pain,
-swelling of fingers and hands,
-MAJOR PMT,
-nausea,
-I have such a bloated tummy area that I feel like I am atleast 8 months pg,
-I am so hazey all the time,
-I cant think straight,
-I have days when I hate myself and the world and just wish I could leave,
-I am so vague all the time,
-get blury vision alot nowdays,
and in all honesly I feel like I am pg I even get slight flutter feelings in my belly,
I have never put 2 and 2 toghether untill reading your posts MissWingBat, having it taken out seems like what I really need to do, but I am scared as the pill doesnt work for me either as I get almost all of the symptoms listed above and I have tried so many different ones, I will not get the depo shot or the implant, and really what else is there??? I dont want to get pg right now,
I have made my decission though I am getting it removed asap, I cant live like this and untill now I didnt even think about all of these things I am suffering through as being a whole and being caused by one thing, we will just deal with it and I will have a good chat to my gyno.
thankyou so much for this thread WOW its blown me away it really has opened my eyes so much, although I am sad that it hasnt worked for me as its a great idea and who wouldnt want 5 years peace of mind but I guess like everything it doesnt work for every one.
