While we wait for warmer weather....

I am currently bf #2 and feed times are generally when DD#1 decides to do her poos......I really don't think DD really understands the toilet concept although she can tell me what she should do perfectly We have stickers in play for trying as well as ones for when she finally does do a poo/wee in the potty....I have plans for the warmer weather to pop normal knickers on her to hopefully connect the sensations with weeing and pooing and going to the toilet.

Here's my query: do I let her tell me when she has obviously done a poo in her nappy (can't miss 'em! ) and only change her when she says something or do I pounce on it as soon as I smell it.....once the feed time for #2 has finished???

Will waiting til she recognises it be more helpful for her to learn?? I was just wondering if me stepping in will somehow stop her realising what she's done.
Same with wees - although, she never tells me, even after she has leaked all over the lounge

Hi Charlie...

I'm toilet training my 2 1/2 yr old as well.

I started bringing her attention to her wees/poos by asking her "have you done a wee/poo?" often...and especially when i know she has done either, just so that she can equate the action with the sensation. Soon, she started telling me if she's done a poo, but isn't always as forthecoming about the wees. However,....as time passes, she is becoming increasingly uncomfortable in a wet nappy, and now has started to say when she would like her nappy changed, frequently after she's only just wet in it (it's still warm!). So during the day, i've been putting undies on her when we're at home, and just letting her run around in them, and frequently asking if she needs to use the potty, or do a wee. We've had a few successful wees in the pot, some one the floor NEAR the pot lol...and some outside in the garden But we're getting there!!

And i know what you mean about their timing....Broni always comes to me with a pooey nappy just when i've sat down to feed Jasmin! I'm hoping it will encourage her to tell me BEFORE i sit down, that she needs to go, and further advance the toilet training *fingers crossed*.

mmmm I would suggest asking her if she has done a poo rather then leaving her to tell you. She may not tell you & possibly end up with a bit of a rash if its not cleaned up ASAP.
Another thing I do with Glenn is ask him, Have you done a poo? He will say yes & then I will say Poos go in the toilet, Where do poos go? So he tells me Poos go in the toilet. then I clean him up & ask him if he needs to go to the loo.
It can be very frustrating but pushing TT on them before they are ready wont make it happen any faster. Just means you will be TT for longer.
Sounds like she is waiting for that moment when your busy with bub & she can go do her thing, do you think maybe if you stripped her off & sat her on the potty before you sat down to feed so she can sit there while you feed & do her poo?

Hmmm, not sure...........might try that tomorrow perhaps as her poos co-incide with the morning feed. Sometimes she will sit and be fine and other times she becomes all princessy and gets all upset so I don't try and keep her there coz I don't want it to be a fight iykwim.
Good point on not leaving the nappy on due to potential rash though.

I have been wondering how much to talk about it all as well as I am aware that she will catch on when she's ready - trying to find that line between saying enough, encouraging her and saying too much and putting her off it all iykwim???
