i have always rinsed DD's dirty nappies in the laundry sink before I wash them, I do use nappy liners though so most of the poo comes off on them. I would be trying to get off as much of it as possible before you wash them, even though it is newborn poo, you still don't want it starting to build up in the hoses/outlet pipes of your washing machine.
