    Bowen Therapy

Has anyone ever had Bowen Therapy?

I am thinking of trying it for my migraines and as a general relaxation therapy. Currently I am having remedial massage and will be starting accupunture in a few weeks but I am keen to hear if anyone has tried it and what they thought.

Does it differ greatly from a remedial massage?

It's very different to a remedial massage. With Bowen your muscles and ligaments are gently manipulated I suppose you would call it, into place and your body is given a few minutes to adjust before the next manipulation is made. I have had it done a few times and I have really felt the benefit of having it done. My Dh actually prefers it to chiropractic now for his back. make sure you see a qualified Bowtech Practicioner though as they have done the full course and have completed their qualifications.

Hey amysarah, i dont know much about it, but a few friends of mine swear by it!

I am trying Reiki at the moment for fertility - and to help me relax a bit more - i have gotten so worked up about not being able to get UTD. Honestly i can not recommend it more highly! They teach you how to meditate which i have found helps alot and i was getting quite bad headachs from anxiety and she taught me some techniques to help with this as well. I have never felt better!!! If the Bowen doesnt work out def give reiki a shot!

Trillian there is only one Bowen Therapist (that I know of) where I live so I'll ask them about their qualifications. I really don't want to go to a chiropractor so this looks like the next best thing for my neck/shoulders.

Elyse a friend of mine practices Reiki and I can't say I got a lot out of it when I had a session a few years back. But perhaps I wasn't in the right headspace for it then.

I'll have a chat to him about it and see if my interest is renewed. Thanks for the suggestion!

I've had bowen before and I really like it. It is very gentle mostly (some of the moves can hurt a little). It is wonderfully relaxing and it does work.

my brother in laws partner does bowen therapy and she did it on me once..its a REALLY weird feeling afterwards, felt a bit dizzy and light headed, but it did actually help reduce the pain in my shoulder. I love my massages though and prefer them

Both DH and I have switched from chiropractic to bowen therapy for back problems. It's much gentler, works for longer and has had both of us feeling better. It's working with your body rather than using brute force to shove things back into the right place. I find it helpful because it also helps fix other parts of my body that are out of whack rather than just my spine.

I've used both acupuncture and bowen for headaches - both are effective, but bowen likes you to leave it for at least a week before you have any other treatment eg, acupuncture, massage, etc.

My mum has Bowen Therapy regularly, it's so much better for you than a chiropractor, as your bones are not being rubbed together...they are just kind of adjusting the muscles and ligaments etc back to where they should be.

I had a lady come out to give my horse bowen therapy when he had a sore back- was quite a funny site as she was so tiny (short and nothing of her!) and he's not exactly little! But you could tell he liked it, he was very relaxed and didn't even move around when she was doing it, he had a really lovely look on his face like "oh that feels sooo nice...". She did stop after every time she did something for a couple of minutes, just to allow his body to relax and accomodate then she would move onto the next area. I wasn't allowed to ride him for a few days after that, again just to let his body get used to the way it should be.

You might be a little sore for a couple of days afterwards too... but it is great, I want to go and have a session with someone but I didn't think there was anyone in Wagga that did it?

My dad is a bowen therapist and I get him to give me a treatment every few weeks. I suffer from extreme anxiety and carry a lot of that stress in my neck and shoulders. The Bowen really helps to get everything back into place. He's converted a lot of his massage patients to Bowen. Depending on what you're seeking the treatment for, you may need a few sessions, and you may experience tiredness or mood swings for a few days afterwards, but you can lessen the 'side effects' by drinking lots and lots of water to flush the toxins through your body

    Thanks MM!

It would be for migraines - so mostly in the neck/shoulder area. I still haven't booked in as I recently had a lap and still can't lie on my tummy!
