Will i need a double pram for 18 month old and new born???

Im starting to do alot of research as to whether ill need a double pram or not for my DD (who will be 18 months old) and newborn in November??... im just wondering for those with around this age gap did you need a double pram?? im looking at getting a baby jogger city select but i dont want to spend that much money if DD2 will only want to stay in the pram for another 6 months (so when she is around 2)

    any advice would be great

    Thanks

I won't be using a double pram. I'll have bub in a carrier & DD2 in the pram. DD2 will probably want to walk the most anyway.

If you do lots of walking I would probably buy a double.

Dd was 27 months when ds was born and I lasted one day without a double pram and went straight on eBay and bought a BJ city double mini. It changed everything. Even now at 4.5 and 2 we still use it. I have travelled through the US with it too. It gives you such a good peace of mind when they are both secure and safe and you can walk and shop etc. both mind sleep in it still and we take it to go out to dinner. A must have.

Eta I live inner city and so I walk and tram everywhere. I also have a dd who doesn't like walking. Even for six months it's worth it if you walk a lot. I am a big baby wearer, but chasing a toddler while baby wearing is a whole new ball game.

My boys are 18 months apart and used my phil and ted dash if walking for a long time and if just going to shops I used mclaren vouge and close carrier or ergo.

DS1 was not walking until 21 months so was a long time till I didnt need use of phil and ted and or sling and stroller.

I only stopped using phil and ted when DS1 was 4 and 1/2 as he was way to tall for seat

My eldest was 2 years and 4 months when his little brother was born and 19 months later we're still using our double! Our boys are now almost 4 years old and 19 months, we have a City Select. You can use it as a single pram too so quite often DS1 will walk or sit on the front bar if you can imagine what I mean, but there are some days where he doesn't want to walk so we pop the 2nd seat on, great for big days out at the zoo or something as well.

I wouldn't be without our double!

I had 4 in 4 years (and 2 months) so all mine were quite close, but I only got my first double pram last year because it was easier for school drop off/pick up.

At the start of last year I had a 3 year old, 2 year old and 10 month old, so the two oldest went in the pram, and the baby went in a carrier on my back.

Having said that, I used it for last year, and now don't use it unless we are going walking and its a fair distance and I don't think the girls will walk it all. All the kids walk for school drop off/pick ups.

I think it really depends on what you plan to do. Mine are 2yr 10mo apart so thought for sure I would be fine with just a pram and either sling or DD1 walking but the reality was a little different and I picked up a second hand double pram once DD2 was a couple of months old which got used every day for our park trip. Was also handy for places like the zoo, south bank, general walks and that kind of thing - I don't do shops with kids really lol so that wasn't a concern. We stopped using it when we moved at the start of this year (DD1 was almost 4), so almost a year of use with that age difference and therefore I can imagine even longer if they were closer together.

Second hand is a good option, mine was super cheap so fairly easy to get my worth. Also doesn't hurt to wait and see as you'll probably not be doing too much straight away but whilst two year olds might like to walk for the novelty, they do tire pretty quick plus it does help keep them safe if you're frequenting busy roads and such.

Mine are 18 months apart , I got the Phil and teds with second seat ATM I use the combo where toddler is up top and baby lying flat underneath so it's the same size as a single pram you can get the pram and toddler seat on sale sites and gumtree for <$200 it also depends on the baby too dd is very clingy baby so until she is a bit older I tend to carry her in a carrier or wrap and just have Ds in an umbrella stroller

This is certainly a hard question. I used a single plus carrier for children 1 and 2 (21 months apart). But I bought a double planning for child 2 and 3 to go in it (18 months apart). Turns out Child 2 wouldn't sit in a stroller if Child 1 was walking, so it barely gets any use! But it has been handy on some occasions.

I paid $400 for my City Mini Double 2nd hand and if I had my time again I wouldn't have got one or would have bought one cheaper than that.

I used my P &T's up until less than a year ago and my kids are now 6 and nearly 5 (17 mths apart) so I am a definite yes. We just found it so much easier if we went anywhere like the zoo etc and even one wanted to walk inevitably at some point both would be tired and want to be in it. We paid about $600 for the sport double kit and worth every cent for us. Really depends on your kids too I have a friend whose DD wouldn't stay in the pram at all but we loved it and I also used it for kinder pick ups and exercising.

My older two are 2y 4m apart and I used a double. Particularly if you want to walk for exercise - or sanity - a double is invaluable.

I would have gone completely mental without a double. I have a side by side and love it.

Even just for safety it's important - there are times you need to know both kids are strapped in safely, like on public transport or in bug shopping centres.

Gosh, I still use both my doubles regularly and my DD1 is almost 4 and DD2 is 19 months. I'd be lost without them!

I've had a City Select since I was about 7 months pregnant with DD2 and used it in single mode. When DD2 arrived it was a godsend using the capsule with it.

I recently bought a Mountain Buggy Duo to exercise with as it was getting tough in the Select with the weight of both my girls (16kg and 11.5kg). My MB is awesome too but I'd only use it for exercising.

my two boys are 16 months apart and we got a mountain buggy double Dj is 4.5 and Vic is 3 and we use it daily for our walk to the mail box and back (so about 1km round trip) the weight per side is 22kg so it'll be used for a long time yet. even with vic walking its still very handy to have for when he gets tired ect. little exxy but its something i cant go with out.

i love my double and DD2 was 2 years old when DD3 was born. and we are still using it all teh time. poor chicken gets really tired when out walking quite quickly and if i am in a hurry for whatever reason i do feel thankful that i have the double.

My DSs are 14 months apart, they are now 2.5yo and 19 months and we use our strider plus with second seat daily, weather it's to go to the shops or the park or a walk around the block, when #3 is born DSs will be 3 & 2 and ill get a capsule so I have the option of putting bub in capsule and having the second seat for DS2 or using the carrier and having both DSs in the pram

I'm curious about this too. I'll have a 20month gap if all goes well. Currently I almost never use the stroller as we usually babywear so thinking I definitely don't need a double except maybe a jogging double down the track
