I have the privelege of having my kids so close together that there really hasn't been a huge amount of ownership taken over any of the toys so they all play with everything we own. Somedays it does mean that DS walks around in a fairy skirt with high heels and a pink handbag while pushing a pink shopping trolley, other days he plays with trucks and trains. We let them do whatever they want and be interested in whatever they want.

Having said that though, I do dress DS in boy's clothes and I do dress DDs in girl's clothes. There isn't a lot of gender neutral stuff available once they aren't in romper suits anymore. We let them pick their own clothes a lot of the time, but we do take them to the boys or girls area respectively to do so. I have found though that even as small children, they make boys and girls clothes with completely different cuts and my kids do have slightly different body shapes to each other even though they are small.

I guess there are some physical limitations that their own bodies place on them being boys and girls. We teach our little boys to stand up while doing a wee but little girls have to sit down. Our bodies are designed for different purposes and some of these start to show themselves from quite a young age. I don't think that it is possible to completely eliminate gender from our kids and we need to acknowledge and celebrate their gender differences and teach them to value those things about themselves.
