Nudity and your children

Parent nudity, I mean. Do you let your children see you naked? I don't have a problem with it at all; they break into the bathroom occasionally while I'm showering if I forget to lock the door, and when it's cold I'll often dress in front of the heater in the kitchen. M is a little more reserved and I just wondered what happens in your household. I don't really remember seeing my parents naked at all - maybe my mum, but NEVER my dad.

i remember seeing both mum and dad naked as a child obviously once i got to a certain age it stopped too. my kids see me naked a lot more than they see DH seeing DH would be when he goes to the toilet (DD2 is toilet training and fasinated by how differently daddy wees!) and when hes in the bath or shower or in winter getting dressed in front of the fire whereas with me they follow me everywhere so most likely whenever im naked they will see it!

I'm a pretty modest person and I don't even like DH to see me naked!! However, the kids do see me naked (poor things will go blind soon) but I'm not that keen on DS watching me shower because he stands there looking at my boobs the entire time with a smile on his face!! Makes me feel very uncomfortable and if I cover them up with my arms he asks why I'm covering up - cos you're bloody staring at them!! LOL

So I do it, but I'm not comfortable doin it.

ETA: DH is more comfortable being nude than I am, so he couldn't give a rats if the kids were watching him or not So he walks around in the nude if the occasion calls for it!

It's only an issue if you make it an 'issue', if that makes sense.

Ahh... we let it all hang out in this house and family, nudie rudies everywhere! I’m pretty sure my kids have seen both sets of grandparents naked too (when they go and stay with them at their house). I think it’s great that they know everyone has a body under their clothes (it's no great mystery), that all bodies are different and that they are all beautiful.

Yep, nudity here, no reservations really. She takes turns showering with us each night, or a bath with us, and follows us to the tolet where she'll watch and say "WEE!" or "POO! STINKS!" (nice one Jazz...). And when we're naked she plays the naming game and yells BUM! BOOBIES! GYNIE!

Same here I think DD has even seen my brother naked & definately my sister - she has had a shower with my sister before.

No Reservations here, we shower with the kids get changed in front of the etc. Our 3 year old knows what a penis, vagina and breasts are. Just the other night as I was getting out of the shower he exclaimed 'Mummy you have a bottom just like I have'!! It was as if he has never noticed. Way too cute.

Yeah, no worries with nudity here The girls shower with either DH or I on a pretty regular basis and they just think it's funny to point and laugh at announce that they can see boobies or doodles or bums lol I often saw my parents naked growing up, it was just never an issue. Except when I would have friends sleep over and Dad would be sitting on the couch the next morning in just his boxers with bits on show (okay, so that happened once and he learned to put pants on before venturing out when my gf's were over lol) or I'd come home with a friend and Mum would be lounging around in just a baggy shirt and her undies lol!! Growing up, our bathroom was tiny so we would always do the dash from bathroom to bedroom wrapped in a towel to get dressed, same goes here. The kids are always in the toilet with us (and sorry for the TMI, but DD1 has already received basic education concerning AF as she's seen my pad at that time of the month and freaked out - 'I'll get you a Band-Aid, Mummy!') when we go and I've stopped sleeping naked since the day mum dropped DD1 back from a sleepover and DD1 yanked the blankets off me... poor mum hahaha
We'll stop showering etc with the kids when they express distaste for it, until then we have no worries with naked bodies as we know they exist and there's nothing wrong with them, they just get a bit awkward when you get to a certain stage of development lol!

DH and i were actually talking about this after that thread about kissing children on the lips. we were laughing about how we are a rudie nudie family and wondered if that was seen as politically incorrect too

DH sleeps in the nude and has no problem being nude...we live on 20 acres in the country so a dip in the pool nude isnt unheard of either....DD would see me nude when im getting dressed or showering, we shower together often, sometime as a family!

DD is only 2 but im sure that as she grows up there will still be nudity, i cant imagine my DH starting to wear PJs anytime in the future! although i think there is a time when i becomes inappropriate, like having a conversation with your teenage daughter whilst nude might be pushing it a little

I think aslong as its done in an innocent and natual way and no one has a problem with it i dont see the problem with it, i think it helps foster a healthy body image for young people, which i think is important!

Ditto everyone else. Im in a house full of boys so Im actually the odd one out but they (the boys) have all shower with me so they know what boobies and vagina's are. They are more interested in my navel piercing than anything else

I dont believe in making a big deal out of nudity or the human body. Obviously once they are hitting teenage years itll be a bit inappropriate to see Dh/I naked but its natural progression to them wanting their privacy too and will happen when it happens.

Seriously, mum and dad would still walk around naked when we were grown, never phased us - its mum and dad!

Charlotte sees us naked all the time - we sleep naked, we live in Perth = lots nudie time , he is there when we dress, showers or bathes with us often....follows us into the toilet (getting over that now though yay! )
But I have no issue with nudity - I think it is healthy for her to see REAL bodies - not the airbrushed crap she will see in magazines and TV...She has seen my sister naked, who is a very different shape to me, she saw my mum naked when she was sick....and nothing phases her. Its all boobs and bum to her anyway!
For example - the boob apparently just ate her hand.

Yeah, the kids see us naked - we often shower together and DH sleeps naked and they see us if we are getting dressed. DS is nearly 10 and I've got no issue with him seeing me naked. There may come a time soon when we don't do it as much, but its never been an issue.

The girls shower with both of us and watch us get dressed if they happen to be in our bedroom, i have no issue with it at all, i think its good for them to see the difference between mummy and daddy, DF's a bit more reserved about it though

Both DH and I often shower with all our kids together (we have a double shower head in our bathroom) so nudity is certainly no problem here. I haven't really thought about when we would stop doing that kind of thing, I guess we will just take our cues from our kids. At the moment though, it is not problem. DD1 has asked DH about his bits which we answer simply and try not to make a fuss. I have friends who have stopped showering with their kids as soon as they ask questions, but we don't mind. I think it is part of life.

My Dad was still walking around the house naked when I was 19. He had done it all my life, so I didn't really think much of it that he continued to do it my whole life. My brothers never really learned to wear clothes either though, so it was not uncommon for them to be naked at home when I was growing up. They didn't sit around naked, but they wouldn't bother getting dressed if they were walking from the bathroom to the bedrooms or vise versa and they all slept naked. I grew up with nudity and it doesn't bother me, but then I don't see it as sexual either. Some people do though so I guess it just depends on your perspective and how normalised it is for you.

Nudity is normal in this household, I used to see my parents, I still see my siblings (heck I've had to strip them off after huge parties and put them to bed, I seriously need to pay for my little brother to have a back'sack'n'crack wax , I still see my older brother naked all the time)

There was no hiding from my xp's kids, so I gave up after a while and if they wanted in the shower with us, they got in the shower with us.
