I think the main point has been missed. The scary part of the article is not really the methods, but the cult aspect behind it. Whilst it is easy to say "well don't use it if you don't like it or it does not work". Some parents are not in that position to that or are questioned themselves if they do dare speak up. I find it frightening that investigations into Babywise result in such an outcry from its followers.

I am concerned about the "Cult of Baby trainers" in general. I don't know how many times it has happened on here that the blind follower (normally a new member to BB), jumps to the defence to the "person who saved their lives", that they cannot see the slightest thing wrong with any of the methods or theories. It is so frightening that once they are converted that they "spread the word" by giving their "sleep bible" to new vulnerable mums.

My take on Babywise, whilst it is obvious that it works for some families, it is the ethos behind it that is disturbing. Just like we have products we due not buy do to work practices, I could never support Babywise due to cult aspect and for allowing babies to cry till they have blood in their throat.
