I'm so sorry, it must be awful. When I worked in a vet clinic I saw heaps of broken pelvis' from cats being run over in their own driveway... I would suggest that even though he seems to be moving more, it would be best to keep him as confined for at least 2 weeks. I wouldn't let him out more until that time is up. Our cat recently got hit by a car and had a spinal injury, we had to keep him inside and confined for 6 weeks. I kept him confined for 10.
